There is no superhero element. It’s just a story of a kid who finds a love for boxing, makes friends, goes through hardships, and try’s to make his way to the top as you follow his life.
_Hajime no Ippo_ is a great series, even if you're not into boxing. What makes it great are the characters, they have a lot of personality and are all kinds of fun! It also does this really interesting thing where Ippo's opponents aren't faceless bad guys for him to beat. A lot of time is dedicated to showing their backstories and motivations, to the point where you want them to win, 'cuz they deserve to just as much as Ippo! In answer to your question, no the series is 100% grounded in reality, no superpowers. The creator of the original manga is actually an ex-boxer himself!
You get quite a lot of time both inside and outside the ring with this show. Lots of back story of the fighters, the motives and just daily life of the charaters too.
Endings are masterful as well. Hajime no ippo is absoluetly masterfully written and directed. One of the most likeable and memorable casts of characters in fiction for me. The manga is almost 1500 chapters, and it, much like one piece, wouldn’t run for so long if it didn’t have stuff to show and say. Stellar character writing and very realistic, while also being funny, look at sports and life in a gym. It’s a must watch. I love it to death and I think only Vinland Saga was on the same level of quality (although for slightly different reasons).
My first sports anime! I remember reluctantly watching the first episode after my friends recommended it to me, only to binge it right then and there haha. I love your reactions especially to these obscure and nearly forgotten shows!
This anime inspired me to become a boxer. I had already loved boxing prior to it and this was the last push I needed to get into it. Now, 7 months later I'm an amateur who's about to get his license and be ready to fight in a couple months. Watching this anime should've gotten me expecting some tough training but it's definitely a lot easier said than done😅 and there are a lot of things that relate me to ippo. And Takamura if you know what I'm saying. And that's what kind of inspired me. It may not be the best anime ever but watching it changed me as a person and it's by far the anime I respect the most.
One of my all time favorites. This anime, as well as Megalo Box, really got me interested in boxing. The characters, storys, music and animation are just top tier ^^
One of the best shows out there, and definitely worthwhile to consider a watch. The only "issue" could be that the look of the show is a bit dated, considering it aired first around the years 2000-2002 for the first 75 episodes, with sequels around 2009 (New Challenger) and 2013 (Rising) stepping up the animation quality and looking more modern than some modern shows nowadays! The whole thing is worth a watch, but you could also pick the road of just watching fight scenes or full fights for starters to see how it is, Martial Arts channels have reacted already, and so did Doctor Channels. My recommendations would include: - Ippo VS Sendo I and II (2 different fights) - Ippo VS Ricardo Martinez (Sparring Match) - Date Eiji VS Ricardo Martinez - Sendo VS Shigeta - Miyata VS Arnie Gregory - Mashiba VS Kimura - Takamura VS Hawk - Kamogawa VS Anderson (flashback fight)
this is one of those shows that i recommend even to people who do not really watch anime. it's very grounded. this show inspired some of this generation's athletes.
The best way to know the difference between the realistic and the super power sports anime usually based on whether the actions they do in said sport be realistic. The best example would be kuroko no basket and slam dunk.
I suddenly got recomendation clips and decided to watch the show. It´s so good, down to earth, no matter what you are doing in real life, in school, out of school, getting a new job or anything you can relate to Ippo and the work he puts in into boxing not to be the best but to understand one question. "What dose it mean to be strong?" It got some tear jerking moments, you should either begin to watch the show or listen to the endings, especially the first one, brings out the rain indoors when you see it´s use in the show too. Such a special little show but sadly overlocked. Suddenly it´s regaining popularity so maybe the anime will continue but it´s slow. It´s almost 5-8 years between the three seasons that exist. And the manga is still going with more chapters than One Piece.
boxing anime: 1. Hajime no ippo (legendary/classic, one of the longest running tv-airing anime) 2. Levius (steampunk sci-fi boxing, but really good accurate boxing content and etc content) 3. Megalo Box (boring, generic, bland, nothing special about it, really basic boxing and etc content) 4. Ashita no Joe (too old school, forerunner to hajime no ippo)
is nice anime wiht nice fights scene and nice animation. It's of the one most good fights animes, wiht the most beautifull punch animation from anime history
Ippo is essentially the Rocky of sports anime except it does add real world training that makes it awesome. And yes it does become more anime cartoon like as well in the fights. Should really check it out because its one of those shows that just uplifts your spirits and want to work or follow a passion. On top that it has some really good humor hear and there.
I have been a fan of Hajime no Ippo since 90s. I prefer the original manga, but this animated series is also pretty good. The third song is still the best for me among those theme songs, haha (from 4:24). If possible, react to the animation. Thank you from Japan!
Hni is a great sports anime, I personally love the comedy in it. Problem is that it will never be adapted fully. Manga is still ongoing and it is longer than one piece btw.
Ippo is based (physically) off of Mike Tyson and some other characters are based off of some legends, with a ton of real boxing techniques and strategies. And even a few real boxers mentioned throughout.
Manga from 1986, more episodes than one piece (1454 chapters in the manga - on going) and the late anime still the best sports anime series together with Haikyuu... good characters and historie, but has a big turning point the anime only 30% from what is launched in the manga
you should try watch Detective Conan Opening Case Closed Movie 01: The Time Bombed Skyscraper Negima!? Magister Negi Magi opening Kamisama Hajimemashita opening
Have a friend who NEVER and as himself said didnt like Sprts Anime. I told him just once...ONCE... do yourself a favour and watch IPPO (spoiler: Hes a massive fan now) hahaha so if youve never or looking for one sports anime to watch i Highly Reccommend HNO. I do hope youll watch it as well brother.. 100% wont be dissapointed.
when it comes to "Super Attack" stuff you know "Fantasy", the show doesnt have anything about it. it uses actual ideas, and tries to make it sense, the only thing is that the moves and the attacks are exxagerated in their illustration and presentation. Like giving very cool and exxagerating Jet Engine Sounds to attacks and movements because "They move really Fast" and put a lot of "Wind" and Smoke coming out of their movement. Its not "Super Powers" its just an embelishment of everything they do boxing related, but its not "Super".
I followed the series for quite a while, the manga in this case. I liked it but it was aimed at guys and had plenty of guy humor. Sadly, that's what made me drop it
Another Hekireki truther excellent taste give the show a watch it’s incredible 🫡🫡 I go back like twice a year when I feel down or burnt out and by the end I’m amped up again
This is the most inspiring anime fr

And the fact it takes inspiration off of real life boxing legends I wish more sports anime did that
Hes also got a boxing gym as well

This and Slam Dunk are two of my most favourite sports anime 🔥
One of the best but underrated sports anime of all time no cap
Endings are masterful as well.

My favourite is Eternal Loop. "I get up again.... with my wounded body....".
i haven’t finished this anime and it’s already nostalgic i actually love this anime so much it’s getting me into boxing
My first sports anime! I remember reluctantly watching the first episode after my friends recommended it to me, only to binge it right then and there haha. I love your reactions especially to these obscure and nearly forgotten shows!
haven't watched this anime but the 4th opening has been on my playlist for many, many years now. Def my favourite of the bunch.

Too goood! Highly recommend!
This anime is just perfect; the action, the emotions, the comedy, the soundtrack. Hoping it comes back someday since the manga is still ongoing
The Goat!!
you should definitly check out the inazuma eleven openings

Yes mate, this captures boxing near perfectly.
