Does anyone else feel like Esam as a top player relies heavily on his character? I’m not saying I could stomp him or anything but out of the top players he seems to not be able to convince me of his skill as a player w character aside. And that his results and status are more so character based than esam based.
I mean he does say pika broken every .02 nanoseconds so he probably agrees
Vintage Falcon I would agree if Esam hadn’t done even better with a worse version of pika in smash 4
I somewhat agree. I think he’s still very skilled and deserving of top player recognition, but his exact placement PGR-wise I do think is helped by his character. The reason I believe that is because any time he’s used other characters like zss at summit (I think) or someone else, he’s not very impressive. But his pikachu is also far and away the best one so he deserves credit for being the best player of that character

Colby Clay Yeah ESAM is very skilled and could probably take on non-PGR and even lower PGR players with relative ease playing other characters. But at the top of the PGR I do believe Pikachu is the only character he’s comfortable with to get results with.
