For sipping and smelling, I'd recommend grappa. Grappa is made from grape must, the leftover grape material after the juice has been pressed out to make wine (and brandy). If you've ever had natural "fruit leather", you'll recognize it in the aroma. BTW, spend time slowly and gently smelling the aroma with your nose at or over the rim of the glass. Really spend the time smelling it and letting yourself acclimate to it, concentrating more on smelling than drinking. This might be easier or more rewarding with a good but affordable scotch or bourbon, like Monkey Shoulder or Buffalo Trace.
One way to use up the rest of the cognac (unless you give it away) is to splash half a jigger (half an ounce) in your stir fry -- either beef, chicken or shrimp, plus whatever veggies you use. Gives it a bit of flavor and the alcohol mostly burns off in the cooking.
Taste change man. 5-7 years down the road, you may end up loving that bottle you have. When I was in my 20s I hated alcohol in all forms lol. Now, I enjoy the taste of a few types.

One thing I didn't like was Saki and I found it to smell and taste like Metho. One thing the price of grog is so cheap in America it is probably 3-5 times higher in price compared in Australia.

I wouldn’t recommend dipping a cig in liquor but aye smoking cigs after a few drinks is always a new level 🔥 and with a few joints you’ll be on the moon 😂🤘🏼🔥 PS when drinking just sip it and get it down quick. Don’t drink it quick but eventually you’ll get used to the flavor so you can just take small pulls. This is coming from a whiskey drinker
I am not a fan either but I just had B&B Liqueur was something was a bit easier to drink it is brandy (40%) and Benedictine D.O.M (60%) which is sweeter. Someone gave it to me as a gift so I tasted it....
