I've watched this film many times and every time I appreciate it more. You captured the spirit and heartbreak of the displaced persons, the elaborate plans and excuses of the officials, and the valuable photos of the lost neighborhood. This is an excellent, valuable film. Thank you for making it.

Wow what a fascinating documentary. I'm from Montreal and have visited Burlington more times than I can count. I've passed by this area many times, but had no clue about the history.
There's a concept in environmental education called environmental generational amnesia... basically, if we do not discuss with younger generations the past condition of the nature we're surrounded by, they will just perceive the conditions that they know as "normal." I think about this a lot with Lake Champlain (the Quebec side, specifically Missisquoi bay)... in my lifetime the lake has always been polluted, and if my grandparents had not told me about its pristine past, the lake to me would have always just been pegged a polluted lake. Anyways, this concept is definitely applicable to urban settings as well, and your documentary does a great job of counteracting this "urban" generational amnesia. Well done!

Thank you for watching, for your comment, and for purchasing a ticket! I feel like generational amnesia is happening across all facets of society. It’s truly alarming. We learn from our mistakes and when history is revised or not taught at all we risk repeating it.
Like most well-intentioned government programs there were unintended negative consequences of the Champlain Street Urban Renewal Project and we’re seeing much more dangerous initiatives currently in the US under the guise of liberalism - which one is led to believe is a noble stance - but couldn’t be further from the truth.

Wow, very well done and a historical time capsule. My folks lived at 185 Pine Street when
I was born, I am sure it would also be gone today if this project would have been continued. I feel grateful to the City council for eventually realizing the benefit of those great old homes and neighborhoods. Hitting the Paypal button right now, thank you again for the excellent documentary...

Fantastic video Patrick! By the way, what year did you film this? Also side note: Whats crazy is some of the 'modern day' shots you have in this have aged so much that they too ALSO look completely different now.

Thank you, Sir! I started shooting this in 1998 and finished editing around 2001-2002. Is history repeating itself in downtown Burlington? Time will tell...

The irony of the whole thing is, this is why Montpelier is a safe city and Burlington is not. Thank you, for a beautiful job, Patrick Farrington

Tried to donate, but it seems not to have gone through. What is your Paypal account name?
I love this film. The mall was torn down a few years ago, Wall Street investors proposed a City Center with 14 story office towers and luxury apartments, a hotel, a rooftop restaurant... Blechhhhh. Many of us want to rebuild the Champlain Street neighborhood -- small family owned businesses and mixed housing. Coalition for Livable Community.

I can't help but think about "the pit" in Burlington where they have already demolished a part of the new urban renewal. No one can decide what to do with it, developers come and go and the courts go at it. History indeed repeats itself.
