Pro tip: get an IP-68 rated keyboard, theyre usually cheaper than high end ones and you can literally spray them off under the sink or shower and even gently brush em with mild soap. no painful taking apart needed

I normally like to soak the keycaps with the keyboard first, then i will dry them. After that, i simply toss them into a trash can and buy a new one 🎉🎉🎉
If you try to do this, you should only let them soak for about 2-3 minutes max regardless if it’s super dirty or not. If a electric duster is not available to you, use a microfiber towel to remove what you can and then go in with some soft brushes to get any excess dust/dirt off. If you have a really nasty keep board, you’re gonna have to do some scrubbing, use a plastic pry tool with a microfiber towel that’s BARELY damp and throw it on the pry tool in order to not scratch anything and scrub off any gunk/grime of the caps/keyboard. dawn dish soap does a great job at removing dirt off of things. Just don’t use too much and again not for too long. When you take them out put them in a towel to dry. Pat them dry, don’t rub each one to get it dry faster or that’ll for sure make the design or just lettering come off. Let them sit on the towel and air dry or if you have a electric duster like he has, you can use that to dry it faster or a blow dryer if you have a cool setting on it. If it’s only hot keep a good distance from it and move side to side. Don’t just sit it in one area, it’s not like it’s as hot as a heat gun but it can get hot if you leave it on the same area. So I’d imagine it is possible to NOT MELT but slightly warp them. Don’t expect to get this done within a hour or even three. Water can still be sitting in small tight spots on the bottom side of the caps so I’d just let them air dry for the day. Don’t leave them out in the sun cause you’re just exposing them to UV light and cause discoloration. Not gonna happen in one day but it’s best just to avoid it. If you don’t want to let them sit in soapy water, make some soapy water and use a toothbrush but don’t scrub hard. Scrub gently. Again, dawn dish soap can get dirt off just by sitting on a surface and getting rinsed off with water. If the caps are SUPER DIRTY with gunk on them, you’re gonna have to be slightly less gentle with scrubbing and really let the soap do most of the work. So just set one day aside just to clean the entire pc as well. One day not using your pc isn’t the end of the world. You’ll have a clean pc/keyboard and you’re stuff will last much longer and keeping them in great condition can be good if you decided to upgrade and sell your stuff to someone else who can’t possibly afford a really nice keyboard/pc parts you’d be helping them out. That way everyone can also have nice stuff.
Thank God I use a black keyboard all I gotta do is use a brush that gets in between the keys and use a duster made for keyboard to get most of the stubborn dust out then go through with an aircan to real blow that dust out then I get my leaf blower, I want to make sure nothing is left, after that I get my industrial fan and just let it go for a good hour.

The cotton from the q-tips can catch between the switches and the mounting plate, depending on said switches and mounting plate. Just use a brush or be careful, skill issue ig.

This may be obvious, but be 1000% sure the keycaps are fully dry when putting it back together. Even though it seemed like my caps were dry a few hours later (using a fan to help dry), I put my keyboard back together and they're must've been just enough moisture that it rekt my keyboard and I had to buy a new one.
Few weeks back I did exactly same. But after some of the keys won't respond or need to press too hard. Worse thing is press single times gives multiple response.
Until you get into under the board cover, smaller dust particle can slip into the small gap between the switch and the frame, and make dust build up over time
when i clean my keyboard i get even the switches off, clean the POM plate, I even vacuum the silicone insert inside, I remove the screws, clean them with a brush, even the feet of the keyboard are preserved with rubber fluid
I clean my keyboard twice a year, this year i only did it once, so you can imagine what was under there , i soaked the keycaps in soap water, and had to use a vacuum yes a 2000 watt vacuum, then a electric duster then a cotton swab, tho i gotta say i might have the cleanest 8 year old keyboard in the world
