Ned was a terrible father in this episode. Instead of helping Todd through one of the most confusing and difficult points in his life, he just criticizes and shuns him.

This episode carries the same energy as the first Homer’s Mom episode, albeit not as emotionally driving, it still swings hard and I respect that the Simpsons decided to give light into how a child would start feeling if one of their parents really had passed away.
I have to say it was rather shitty of most people in this episode to Todd. Ned for how he treated his own son, Lisa for trying to convert Todd when he was depressed, then again...Todd was rather nosey to those who let him stay at their place and tried (in some way) to help him regain his faith.
I think the overall idea of a kid having a crisis of faith due to losing a parent is interesting, but they put more focus on his losing faith in God over the issue that was causing that. That being dealing with the loss of TWO mothers. If they had helped Todd through his issues that way it would have done a lot more good.
Todd needed to realize that God wasn’t to blame for his mom’s death in order to regain his faith, not by fearing Him again. Ned should’ve known that, and more importantly empathize with Todd, but instead he acted completely wrong.
@@Igarappappa yeah, i really hates how Ned acted in this episode, he went to a similar crisis when Moud died, i undestand that the late seasons make him a religious lunatic but this spisode could had been so heartwarming if they had writted him right.
Todd and Homer can relate since they lost their mom young. I may not have lost my mom but i lost my mentor and friend but i never lost my faith in God. I learned it from Job
Todd and Rod lost two mothers before middle school and it took the writers 20 years to make an episode about processing that trauma for the first mother.
its funny to lutherans lol. the a mighty problem is our todd is a hilarious song because it has the tune to one of Luther's most famous hymns ( a mighty fortress)

Nice to see my favorite of Bart's love interests, Jessica Lovejoy, appearing more in the series; albeit none speaking roles because she was voiced by Meryl Streep in her only speaking appearance. Is it too much to ask to get someone else to voice her?
what would be a great idea if Ned developed a time machine and travel back to the day Maude died and prevent her from dying then the two of them will be together forever?
What Lisa did was what childhood friend of my father did during his wake at church. It disgusting behavior to take advantage of someone grief to promote your faith.

Ned is a Hypo-Christian. If my kids chose to be Agnostic or Atheist I would have no issue.

This episode would have been better if it was Ned accepting that his Todd is not religious anymore, and him acting like a true father
This is how very religious parents do react when their kids reach the age to ask questions.

My favorite part was when you cut all the funny parts out.
18 years later

If I was homer as soon as that kid went into my living room. I'm calling the cops on ned and having social services and CPS open an investigation.

why cut all them out

This episode could have been so much more. Would have been nice to see Homer and Todd bonding more over losing their mothers.

If your going to share something share the whole thing without the cuts.

Lisa, I'll teach you to no convency another religion
The ironic part is she joined buddhism because of this

What would happen if Todd learned that his mother death was caused by Homer?
