- Just pre-war lorries (ie from the 1910s, 1920s & 1930s) make up this 80-photo video collection. Gathering together photos of these early commercial vehicles took a while as many Fodens, ERFs, Bedfords etc from the late 1940s and into the 1950s look very similar to their older pre-WW2 brothers, so many registrations had to be looked up to ensure that, wherever possible, only lorries pre-1940 made it into this set. It may be that the odd later lorry is included because it represents an earlier identical version.
Vintage & classic lorries from the truck manufacturers such as Albion, AEC, Bedford, Foden, Sentinel, Dennis, Ford, Fordson, Thornycroft, International, Commer, Leyland, Morris & others are all to be found here, so hopefully will prove of interest to anyone with a liking for older lorries. Most of the photos were taken at shows and road runs that we've attended, although I did also include a number of original old b&w photos too.

If classic British lorries, or antique trucks from further afield such as the USA, are your thing then there should be something of interest to watch. Please let me know in the comments which old lorries featured here - or in general - are of most interest to you, transport nostalgia is often fuelled by vehicles that are remembered from our early years.
Thanks for watching.

Hi, Wonderful to see these old trucks again. My Dad worked for P Hauser in Trafford Park Manchester in the mid 70's. He is trying to search out any of their old fleet of ERF's and other trucks. He drove number 8 an ERF with a Gardener 150 in it. Are you able to help him find these old vehicles if they are still living ? Kind regards
Samantha
Scammell used to build them well back in the day. Even their 3 wheelers were very well engineered. My grandfather worked many years with the Scarab.
Very nice! It's almost surprising to think that these trucks built cities and countries and empires. Road trucks now are routinely at 400 or 500 horsepower.
Very nice collection of photographs. Thank you. There was a 'Tizer' depot not too far from me. They had some beautiful Fordson lorries with a very destinctive engine sound.
"soldiers of the realm'' love it.
Wonderful......
Lovely collection of prewar lorries
I’m particularly interested in steam lorries
Is there any chance you can do a RUclips video on them specifically?
The Fodens and Sentinels I’ve seen throughout my life have been particularly impressive especially when working
The sign writing and colours of these has always struck me as outstanding
As well as the sound and the size!
Thanks for watching and commenting, I'll certainly bear your request in mind when I'm next at steam & lorry rallies to see if there's an opportunity to do that
The unidentified steam lorry, I did wonder, briefly, if it might have been an Atkinson, because they were very rare?
Nice collection of old trucks there. It is hard to pick a favourite but I always love ERF's . Back in 1974 I went to Brighton to see the finish of the London to Brighton run. I have a somewhat out of focus B&W photo of the Dad's Army truck with me stood by it's side (a friend took the photo!) Complete with gun ports. The back 'box' was made of wood. I don't know if it was an original truck it's too many years ago now to remember such detail aithough it may have been a replica. I do remember the 'cast" all came in character. Happy days! 😊
I love the vintage picture if the lorry with the trailer. I also see American COE tractor designers of the 60s were literally building under the 1930s English COE design. And they claimed they worked on the design, pfft.
ok i will Ashley Australia
@@ashleypalmer4918 You are a Legend.
thanks
The first photo of the 33 Bedford, what a beauty
Interesting how the British lorries were very square and flat (especially the windows!) while the American trucks were more curvaceous.
Ashley here about a month ago i commented and asked u if u had any information on the AEC 1934 8x8 with the front and rear wheels steering it also was only 1 of 3 trucks ever built it was Australia's first road train and worked hauling freight around the Alice Springs area in the Northern Territory i can send u a couple of pictures of it if u wish Ashley Austrlia
Please do it, I know he'll find a way to work them in. I've only seen one picture in a book and it was a tiny picture.
Hi Ashley it'd be interesting to see photos, thanks, my email details are on the main site, here: www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/contact.htm rgds RJ.
Great set of photos, all have that something special about them. On a side note. Do you happen to know the make of Corporal Jones` Lorry featured in Dads army series on T.V. ? The one where it was converted to a mobile rifle job where holes were cut into the back of the lorry and rifles were poking out of them. Smiling as i write this.
