Linda is Hispanic. Her dad's family is from Mexico. She was born in Tucson, surrounded by Latino culture.
She could sing anything. One of the best voices of the last 70 years. Power, subtlety, passion, tenderness, vulnerability, soul, fun.....she could do it all.
I’m Mexican , I would say that she is one of the best singers in Spanish , one of the best singing mariachi. Ranchero music , same level of Lola Beltran , lucha Villa , Aida Cuevas, Guadalupe Pineda and Linda Ronstadt is among them , among the best Mexican singers ever
And she didn't know much Spanish before she did these albums. She learned it perfectly before she recorded these songs,. He dad was Mexican but she grew up speaking English.

She's partially Mexican, but she doesn't know how to speak Spanish. In interviews she said she used to sing rancheras by imitating.
I always thought she was bilingual, but alas she isn’t. She had to learn phonetically to do these two albums.
But as is her want, she nailed it!! As evidenced by the Grammy she won for best Spanish language album. And that the first one, 1989, is still the number one selling Spanish language of all time world wide!

I showed my wife this video. She said Linda always sang mariachi. I had no clue, I loved her from the 70’s. My wife didn’t know she sang rock/country.
It's unclear if she's ethnically Mexican. Ronstadt is a German surname and her father's family lived in Mexico where he fell in love with this music and played it around their house when she was growing up. She also recorded an album in French and 2 albums as a Trio with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris.
Linda is a proud Mexican American. I am a huge fan of her entire forty year catalogue ! She has the most beautiful voice on the planet in any language. This song is part of an hour plus live singing and dancing show she did in the late 1980’s with the world renowned Mariachi Vargas. She is totally amazing. I love your reaction. 🌺✌️

Lind Ronstadt is an amazing talent that only comes around once in a lifetime! Oh my God, what pipes she had to sing those classic songs! It take very strong vocals to hit those notes the way she did. Singing with a Mariachi is a huge test of your vocals and range. Not only that she touches our soul inside that bring out that inner Mexican heritage and you can't hold back a tear of joy and happiness! Very rare when a singer can do that to you in any language! I am so glad that she recorded those songs and I believe in my heart that she found her calling! Yes she had some English hits, but I believe when she sang in Spanish she let her soul sing and it was magic! Thank you Linda!

The lovely Linda no one can touch her, she was one of the top female artists of the 70's and 80's, she did this live, no auto tune artists don't perform like this anymore. She was a pure musical genius who explored multiple musical genres and was a smashing success in all of them!

When this album came out, it when Double platinum in 1 day. Its the highest selling non english album in American history. I grew up listening to her, my mom would play this album every weekend. (Cleaning music 🤣)

This is a very rich, dynamic, passionate vocalist. Linda Ronstadt is absolutely supreme. How could you not know she was fluent in Ranchera. Her Canciones de Mi Padre album is the biggest selling Spanish language recording in music history.

I was in my 20's when this came out. I had never even heard Mexican music apart from a bit of Mariachi in old black and white movies. I loved La Charreada and went to a little local record store that sold hard to get stuff and they got this in for me. I played the cassette to death and have been through 2 CD's. I am so glad you loved this, she is amazing!
She IS an amazing human being too.
Linda learned the words for her Spanish language albums.
And of course she won a Spanish language album Grammy.
35 years after recoding she still has the number one selling Spanish language album of all time!

Linda grew up near the Mexican border and is from Mexican /German origin, as a kid she always heard this music her father sang, she made two whole albums with canciones de me padre. At 2½ million US sales, it stands as the biggest selling non-English language album in American record history. If you like it i'm gonna request more from these songs! One of the best singers of a generation, first female rock star of true superstar status, country hits, Broadway, American standards, and best selling Spanish language album in US history. Worth checking her out, her earlier Rock songs are classics. She also sang with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou H in group, pop #1 with Aaron Neville too. True legend. Sadly, now has Parkinson’s and can’t sing any longer.

I love Mariachis. They are so emotional. She has one of the greatest voices of all time. It's so sad because Linda Ronstadt now has Parkinson's and can no longer sing. I'm glad she sang every kind of music before this happened to her.

She grew up in a Mexican American house hold. Her parents were Mexican migrants in America, so she grew up with this music.
Mamá mía que emoción tan grande escucharla cantar música tradicional mexicana , claro que también los otros géneros de música que cantaba mucho antes de cantar esta música vernácula mexicana. Muy diferente a otros cantantes que olvidan sus raíces.

I love all Linda's songs and listen very often to her music and documentaries as The sound of my voice.
Linda kinda had three singing careers, first was her time as the queen of RnR, then mid 1980’s she did three albums of mid 20th century classics with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra. After which she did two Spanish language albums.
She won Grammys for all three styles of music.
She was told with both forays into the other styles they would ruin her career, HA!
Linda is of Mexican descent.
Her daddy was born n raised in Mexico. Spanish was spoken in her house as a child.
Check out her 1989 Grammy performance. The intro by Billy Crystal, and Bonnie Raites reaction at the end says all you need to know about her performance.
Linda also did a lot of collaborations with Aaron Neville, of the Lousiana Neville Brothers. Their duets are superb. One of the best is "Don't Know Much".

I don't know if you knew that in an interview she told how as a child she listened to the songs of her grandfather and her father and she learned the songs only by ear, then she perfected them..

If you aren't familiar, Linda did several albums of American standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. She also did light opera in the Pirates of Penzance. So, that covers, Rock & Roll, Country, Standards, Mexican Traditional and light opera. I can't think of anyone else with that range.
She also sang operetta. See 'The Pirates of Penzance'. She sang the female lead in Broadway production and reprised her role in the film of the same name. As Dolly Parton said 'Linda could sing anything'.
Check out La Charreada. This woman can sing the song book. In more than one language. Those long held notes with vibrato? Just too good.
