There are some incredible films of WW2 tanks being recovered from bogs, we're the lack of oxygen and cold temperatures have kept them in almost working order. Very interesting.
Those "roots" look like the rhizomorphs "boot laces" of honey fungus (Armillaria mellea). It will most probably be growing from infected timbers brought into the mine.
The respect you all show for these mines and their history is really great. No trophy hunting, just archiving and recording.

Adits were built to drain water. Anything that was drilled to remove ore was a drive not an adit. From an ex tin miner.
