Gave my old y520( year 2017) to my sister to use for school when covid hits, as i bought the new asus tuf fx505dt( year 2020). I found out opening the heat sink n the screw is hard on the asus tuf. Its like its got glue in it. I found out that the asus tuf thermal paste is dried on the cpu after 1 year . I also noticed the legion y520 runs cooler than asus tuf even after a few years. So i hope is not really dry like asus tuf
Ok just clean it ( legion y520) . Its easier than asus tuf because most part has thermal pad while in asus tuf all is thermal paste so thats why is harder to clean. You can see in this vid there is 2 part that has thermal paste while other is thermal pad
I have the same laptop but it has a huge Frame Drops it suppose to run the game on 60 FPS but it goes from 60 to 5 or 10 then 60 again and drops again I checked the temperature for the cpu and gpu they both go up to 100% so could this help solving the problem?
On the heatsink, near the place of the thermal paste, there are done squares made out of a white foam. is that also thermal paste? Those square come off very easily. Should i change them?
Those are thermal pads if you can find the right hit ones to replace it with then yes replace them most unless they are very dusty they should be fine.
Probably a dumb question. But by replacing or cleaning the dust of the fan etc. Do I risk my files getting lost? And even my computer not working again? Should I do backups?
I know its late but for future viewers, before open it make sure u have cleaning stuff like new thermal paste, tissu an isopropyl alcohol ready. As soon you open n closed the heat sink without replacing there will be air pocket/ bubble between the haet sink n thermal paste, this caused an uneven heat transfer. So ready to replaced thermal paste if u open it
My left fan of the two is making a constant loud noise. It’s a bit more wobbly than the other fan which is quiet. I think I’ll have to buy a new fan. Removing the dust didnt do the trick :/
when i plugged my battery back it stopped charging and gave me this error " The battery installed is not supported by the system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system." however its the same battery as before, how do i fix this
how did you solve this? my battery stopped charging too, windows recognizes it and uses the charge when I unplugged it from the electric light but it doesn't charge
This looks like touching the surface of the sun without getting burned to me.. I'm sloppy caveman I'll just take my laptop to some IT nerd to get it cleaned
Wow... a 12v Bosch on a laptop...... you sir got balls

Thanks a lot, first time opening my laptop and it worked, thanks for the details :)
Glad it helped

Placed the compounds on the PC while working, what you are doing is dangerous 😮😮
Do you have to do new thermal paste? Because i dont have any and i kinda only wanna clean the fans
Yes, you can not recycle or reuse or keep the old if you are going to remove the heatsink
Nice man, how long have you owned this laptop?
Thanks
lmao

what about the assembly? how to assemble this thing back up?
when was the last time it was cleaned before that?

High temperature is a good thing, so do it. Worst case, you get better cooling output.
did it help? I also have the same issue on my laptop (same as the videos) and am looking for solutions...
How about replacment lcd
Wow! You are rough on this machine. Are you a car mechanic?

What kinda screwdriver are you using

And can I get away without replacing the thermak paste?
Hi, no you won't lose data. First thing, you do after removing the battery is to remove the storage drive, as soon as possible.
Is it possible to clean the fan without removing the heatsink?
Yes!
what would happen if you skip the thermal paste?

Is it essentiel to add thermal paste, or can I do it without any?
no, you cant
@@yandanielimmanuel2295 ok cheers, ill buy some
If you don't remove the heatsink, you can do without. But since you are going thru all that hassle. Do it!
