    6:30 - VERY risky move right there. You use a metal screwdriver to poke that pin which has the conductive parts exposed so you could've short-circuited them. Secondly, this pin is meant to be pulled out in a straight way, it's again VERY risky to pull it out unevenly. There are lots of cases like these on Reddit, etc. and people see a spark in that connector and they fry their motherboard. I also experienced a spark while disconnecting and that's why I learned these points but fortunately, it didn't fry my motherboard. The best way to disconnect that pin is to unscrew the battery and then take the battery out by pulling the pin's cable evenly, it's much easier to do it this way too.

    I know this is old by now, but I had to comment.
    You replacer the thermal paste, but not the thermal pads. Once you remove a cooler like that you have to switch out the pads (greenish white soft “stickers” that go over the VRMs and the memory).
    That is also why I originally looked for this video. I wanted to clean the fans and cooler, but I wasn’t sure if there are any thermal pads under the cooler, or just thermal paste. Thankfully I decided not to disassemble it since I have no thermal pads at home to replace the old ones. If still have the laptop and are going to replace the pads, please measure the thickness, since too thick could mean bad thermal conductivity and too thin could mean bad contact.
    If you do measure them, please post your results somewhere so I can replace mine too.

    You need to unscrew the battery to remove the connector. It will be hard to remove like that. Mine was bit harder and took me 1hr realise this.

    demo of what not to do when repaste?
    1. pulling the power cable: it was too hard when you did it, and you could easily break it.
    2. that was too much paste you put on....
    anyhow, congrats on the courage posting this video though!

    The chip you cleaned on the left it looked like there was loads of old paste stuck between the tiny chips surrounding the chip you eventually put the paste on.
    Isn't there a danger of a short if that paste is connecting two of those tiny chips?

    • @rickstechrepairs
      @rickstechrepairs  2 года назад +1

      If the past has already been stuck there for ages, leaving it there shouldn't hurt it, it is worth trying to clean it all up tho

    Are the cooling fans on Y530 and Y540 the same? I own y540 and the fans require replacement, but I'm only able to find fans of y530 in the store near me. Can I use them instead? Because they look kinda similar. Will it work the same?

    • @rickstechrepairs
      @rickstechrepairs  Год назад +1

      the black square with the cutout is to stop the factory thermal paste from running off the chip when it gets applied

      You can't change GPU or cpu in a laptop
      if you don't already have two matching stick of ram in your machine, do that for dual channel performance

    Anyone knows if just turning of the laptop and disconnecting the battery is enough for the process? Cause i seen coments in other videos about doing extra safety stuff
    I hope some could help me and thank you in advance
