The Tar Heels beating Duke in Cameron on Coach K's last home game, then ending his career by beating him in the Final Four is quite possibly the first time in sports history a team has "Won" the rivalry. Duke could win every game for the next decade against UNC and it won't come close to what UNC did to them in the span of just a few weeks.
This is unfortunately true as a Duke fan. I hated last year’s Duke team the entire way, every game after the Gonzaga game was basically unwatchable. There was no actual scheme. It was strictly iso ball, and hoping Mark Williams could get a put back if necessary. There was no effort of any kind. It didn’t look like a Coach K team, and I hate to say it but I think he just phoned it in for his last season so that he didn’t need to retire after a 13-11 season.
If UNC won the championship then you could argue this. UNC ultimately choked the championship game so beating Duke didn't end up mattering. You can call me a "salty Duke fan" for saying that if you want, I don't care. If a UNC fan wants to rub it in they can cope with the fact they choked a 16 point lead to Kansas (and a 25 point lead to Baylor that wasn't punished). Coach K is gone now, you can say what you want about him but 5 championships and 13 Final Fours don't lie. It's Scheyer's team now so the rivalry is in the new Davis-Scheyer era now.

You guys could win the next 20 matchups with UNC and it won't come close to matching what we did to you guys on Coach K's final home game and beating you in the Final Four to end his career.
Due to the fact that the players making that team and prior teams had real possibilities of going all the way, I feel like it’s all a coaching problem. Matt Painter even admitted he needed to rethink everything he did. I’m not saying he’s a bad coach but he’s definitely not a coach that can get Purdue to a title.

That Dayton loss hurt at the time as a KU fan but I think it helped fuel the team and toughened them up to where they were able to do so well in close games both in the regular season and in the NCAA Tourney Still happy we won the title
