As a newer player, I never had the chance to get in contact with the old Living World Season 1 content, so to hear this masterpiece in my now favourite fractal is just amazing
shes been dead for over a year now, but her name is still mentioned even in the most recent story updates. she really teared her way into Tyria´s story as a the worst terrorist of the current era and a legendary figure
Scarlet was imo the best thing anet has ever created. I'm so fucking pissed that you had to kill her. like why not keep her in prison to get much more information and stuff. I loved this character to death. xD
i would have liked to see more with her too but i do agree that she was far too dangerous to be keep alive. get information from her? i doubt she would give any xD Scarlet always seemed like GW2 version of the joker for me
Lena Chapelle (composer of this piece) is a huge fan of classic jrpgs, likes of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy or the newer Kingdom Hearts series. You can clearly listen to the influence of this games in this piece.
Same! Especially heavy for me, since I even was reading "Sea of Sorrows" back at that time and ingame just freshly got my Commander tag. Felt so great saving the citizens and leading the players through the event.
I love visiting some of the landmarks, some of the scars the conflict against Scarlet left tyria with. The "crater" in Lornars Pass...or the remains of the Tower of Nightmares in the Kessex Hills and the wreckage of the Breachmaker in Lions Arch.
Really wonder how they would pull off the legendary battle for Lion's Arch though, as a mere instance it would so heavily lack the tension it had back then....
Thus far, it was the only season to actually impact the existing world. All the others were instanced or on new maps. Which isn't bad, but having the game world we knew, changed, was quite amazing to experience.
Blame the players as I recall many people complaining about temporary content that could be missed permanently. While I loved that Anet provided a developer driven living world unlike any other MMO, their efforts were generally criticized, which is likely why they hurried an expansion to recoup and refine their overall design. Now lazy people who can't be bothered to play can have their not-so-living world.
That seems to sadly be quite true, but you also have to account for how uneconomically sound the whole idea was in terms of selling people the game down the line.
I think it would be better if they did some sort of combo of what they did for Season 1 and the instances in seasons 2 and 3. Dynamic events for everyone to participate (for a limited time) and instances to help progress the story and tie the campaigns together.
Dude we'll be taking on a bbg master vampire soon and this sounds like something I want to hear as the bgm. I already sent it to my gm. Hope he likes it
I miss this. This boss fight and the entire meta/raid of Lions Arch was the absolute best time of GW2. Fantastic meta, awesome boss battles that were a bit of a challenge even for huge groups with actual mechanics, and great rewards (Scarlet's unique weapons and items to build backpieces) that kept players coming back again and again.
im so mad that i missed all of this. played since beta but had some personal problems dureing the whole scarlet thing. i hope anet brings this back somehow so people that missed this can enjoy it.
The battle of Lions Arch. This was the most fun I ever had in GW2. The patch before the battle (the one with the marionette and the prelude to the battle) and the battle itself were truly a finale. Not like LS Season 2's finale......seeds of truth was good though.
I regret missing out on the living story 1, I wish there was a way to "buy" the living story 1 and do it after the fact. I just came back to the game and I am finding the game more fun than when I originally started. Just finished buying Living Story 2 and am trying to finish that before the remove it. Does anyone know if there is a way to buy or go back to living story 1 or is it gone forever? I didn't see it on the online store.
Roly Vento It's gone, ArenaNet didn't think to make season 1 into replayable episodes like 2, plus season 1 had temporary raid-like content(the marionette in lornar's pass, the giant twisted knights in the fight for LA-- beating all 3 to get on board scarlet's drill machine overhead and battle her & her giant hologram, etc). If only they could recreate it...
HarunoSama My guildies and some people on the forums say that Anet may make Season 1 replayable in the future. They didn't promise it but they apparently said at some point that they could work on it. I wish it will be done as I also missed on season 1, I didn't have the game back then
First the Nightmare fractal, then cameo in End of Dragons, and now we have the whole thing back. Who would've thought? It's been so great to relive all that experience again, and so satisfying to see the game story whole once again.
I loved the music and the events that happened during living story 1, but I never actually got to 80 until shortly after it ended so I'm upset I never got the chance to do it.
The final part of LS1 was all I played of it unfortunately, but I'm glad I at least experienced that, as it was pretty damn awesome, and so I wasn't COMPLETELY out of the loop when LS2 came along.
Now back in full to play in game you enjoy LW1 for Free and for all players...As 10 year vet this hold quite well. Now we get too fight Scarlet forever >;3.
Man, I really wish the Asura invent time travel so the players can go back and participate in all these great battles again. I only did this fight once and I actually stopped the game just to turn my music up
After all this years i realize something. Scarlet controlled by mordremoth. She is a puppet, a slave. Mordremoth is a elder dragon. He have great power. He defeat all pack fleet in maguma jungle. But all this power only efective in maguma jungle. On the other hand scarlet attack Lion's Arch. She ruined whole capital city. She hit Tyria's heart. I don't know which one is powerful but truth is she more successful than his master.
I know this is a very late reaction, but Mordremoth did not only have power in Maguuma. As soon as he started realising he could send his vines to ley hubs via the ley lines (the ones we built waypoints on), he attacked throughout Tyria. The only reason he didn't tear up LA himself was because we stopped him in Maguuma before he could spread his devastation further than a few outposts.
I love that this track plays during the nightmare fractal boss fight. I just wish I could hear it at the final phase without having to turn off post processing effects. That stupid hallucination sound ruins everything.
I really hope one day they make this boss fight playable again. Yes, season one of living world was not great. Way to long and it just was one annoying thing after another. But my god, credit where credit is due. This is by far my favorite boss fight in Guild Wars 2 as a whole. It was so well done.
An actual villain, didn't care who she hurt. who she killed. what she had to do to get her way and always a few steps ahead of the players making everyone regard her as major headache and pain in the arse. gassing Lion's arch. testing her equipment with the tower of nightmares, the molten facility and getting people assasinated during dragonbash. Anet should be proud for making such a hateable antagonist.
Guild Wars soundtracks always have been. The music in GW1 being done by Jeremy Soule, and most of it also in GW2, it has really set an epic tone for the series.
While on GW1 (especially factions!) Jeremy Soule did some of the best OST I've ever heard (his on Skyrim was pretty outstanding too) I feelike his work on GW2 was very lackluster. I can recall pretty much all gw1 themes while in gw2 I barely recognize them while having far more playtime.
Other than Dawn in Shaemoor and Call of the Raven, yea, the original OST was a tad lackluster, coming from Jeremy Soule and all. He's still one of my favorite composers, though.. Hopefully his work on TES 6 makes up for it xD
I really hope they do bring living story season 1 back. I loved Scarlet lol. Yes shes a crazed maniac but goddam was she interesting. I mean her army is perhaps the most random jumble I have ever seen, but it was badass. I hope they bring it back, not just for my sake but for the people who didn't have to go through her abuse. (I was okay with her abuse >:] ) PS I had a friend who hated Scarlet so much, when I played a voice track of her speaking she left TeamSpeak O_O
guild wars needs more giant robots again... I was also sorta hoping Scarlet would make a freak appearance in Heart of Thorns, like scarlet clones or something.
Never got to play the Scarlet saga, but I love her character... amazing soundtrack as well. I have a weakness for characters who go against everything and everyone, plotting behind the scenes to achieve an ultimate grand goal. I think that in the end, Scarlet knew she couldn't win the war she started, nor that she cared about her own life... it was all to buy time to obtain what she wanted. Plus she's an engineer just like my first and main character. To this day, my GW2 reddit flair is *Scarlet did nothing wrong*
To people who regret missing the first season : except two boss fight, it was an anoying grindfest with bad character and hype building. You should be happy to have the music and your imagination
Here's what I remember from S1: Marrionette fight Scarlet Hologram fight Aetherblade dungeon Molten dungeon Kessex Hill Tower Battle of Lion's Arch Yes, the rest wasn't as memorable, but that's still a lot of nice events. Much more memorable than LS2
I would rather have an introduction to the characters (even if a bad one) than none at all. And that ingame cinematic doesn't count. I still feel pratically no connection with Destiny's Edge 2.0. I feel more connection with Snaff than with Braham so that says a lot. I'm still not even sure who the hell Canach is.
I didn't get to play LWS1 before the other expansions, but it somehow made Scarlet seem like an even bigger badass. Particularly the scenes in End of Dragons when... (SPOILER if you haven't played it.) ...Mai Trin uses revenant abilities to invoke the power of Scarlet Briar, it honestly gave me chills.
It gave everybody chills, including me, who was there almost nine years ago as well. That sh*t hitting the fan just came completely unexpected, but in a great way!
the music is 100 timer better than scarlet as a character. all of the nostalgia derps here talking as if scarlet was great need to get a reality check. she was a horrible villain. I can't believe people just plain act as if all the community hatred towards her never happened. and no, a community hating her is not a sign of a good villain. she was horribly written and used terribly also. a good villain always has proper motivation and personality.
Rayn Sideways I have, and no she doesn't. Adding in backstory later does nothing to rectify the horrible character she was during season 1. In fact, the writing about her being better in season 2 only makes the season 1 appearance all the more appaling.
+gtafan110010 Suit yourself. I found her quite fascinating as we sifted through the remnants of her past and discovered how important she really was to events in the world. She's the entire reason that Heart of Thorns even happens.
+gtafan110010 Another fucker who thinks his opinion is the objective truth. I liked Scarlet then and I miss her now. Haters are always a vocal minority, people who are satisfied rarely speak up.
It was supposedly a good fight, but my Laptop could barely handle it at all so I just died over and over and got credit anyways... Stop babying me A-net just cause I have a bad rig. Let us fail to get rewards for once.
She was such a evil person, I never have played living world season 1 but she sounds so horrible... Though the dragons she controls one risen one jungle probably warped by her...
She never controlled any dragons. After the events of Omadds Machine she was fully in the hands of Mordremoth. Being nothing but an Agent of Chaos for him. But since she wanted to see the world burn anyways, it was easy for him to control her.
boy oh boy I did not expect to hear this track again in game... but here we are
SO GOOD!
I also loved how the fight had mechanical callbacks to Ensolyss, which is the other place they reused this track after s1.

Yeah, that was quite a surprise! And a well made one

Arenanet, I would pay the price of an expansion just to play this! Please get it back in the game, a single cutscene just doesn't do it all justice!

Another fucker who thinks his opinion is the objective truth. I liked Scarlet then and I miss her now. Haters are always a vocal minority, people who are satisfied rarely speak up.
I miss scarlet :/
poor scarlet death is character evil cool
This track is overly underrated.
It was supposedly a good fight, but my Laptop could barely handle it at all so I just died over and over and got credit anyways... Stop babying me A-net just cause I have a bad rig. Let us fail to get rewards for once.
How lame, I was around LS1 but never really bothered to finish this meta event lol.
frisk is real
She was such a evil person, I never have played living world season 1 but she sounds so horrible... Though the dragons she controls one risen one jungle probably warped by her...
She never controlled any dragons. After the events of Omadds Machine she was fully in the hands of Mordremoth. Being nothing but an Agent of Chaos for him. But since she wanted to see the world burn anyways, it was easy for him to control her.
Still prefer Fear not this Night.
Jeremy Soule made the best tracks by far for this game. Wish they kept him around.
he signed a contract to only make music for (I think) a neverwinter game, so he cannot make music for any other company until his contract is done.
Mr. Person He now works for SOE online at making Everquest Next
sallee132 ah, everquest, I forgot the name. But yea he is not available to anyone anymore :(
Mr. Person Well i dont mind that much cause Everquest gonna be EPIC.Probably best MMORPG ever.Even Jeremy himself said so.
sallee132 *was said for every hyped up MMO ever*
