    For #11, the answer choices should be inches, not centimeters. It was a typo.

    Bought the asvab for dummies tried lots of methods that didn’t work,but this guy is the real one. I was able to turn my 9-31 within a month of studying with his Chanel and website. And the fact that he was talking about “you should not spending too much money on subscriptions and books” hits me hard. So thank you to the person behind that curtain.

    Hey, Grammar Hero!! Thank you for everything man! I just passed my PiCAT verification and I got to keep my 78 score. For those who wants to know what is gonna show up on PiCAT verification, its just the same what you did for the picat at home. They just choose 20 on your exact test questions and 10 random. You should answer it how you answered on your picat at home. It’s easy. If you passed the part 1 of the test it means you passed. But if not you will take the 3 hrs asvab. It’s easy guys. And regardless of what the BS the recruiter feeds you about an MOS choice, chose something that will definitely have some use when you leave. Question for you sir, but first, thank you for this excellent content. I am recommending it to everyone in my unit. at 1:07:07 you say to "use the order of operations to simplify this in the correct order." However, everything I read online says to apply the distributive property (when able) BEFORE following the order of operations. More confoundingly, a few trials I have experimented with suggest it makes no difference, I get the same result whether applying the distributive property or just rolling strait into PEMDAS. Do you have any further guidance or thoughts on this topic?

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  11 месяцев назад

      PEMDAS is taught in elementary school, where they only work with whole numbers and fractions and combine that which is in parenthesis. The distributive property is taught in algebra, where you start working with letter variables and can't always simplify that which is in parenthesis.

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  11 месяцев назад

      Examples:
      1. 2(5 - 1) - here you do parenthesis first.
      1. 2(5 - x) - here you have to distribute.

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  11 месяцев назад

      Most instructors don't mention PEMDAS or the distributive property in the same lesson, because they exist for different purposes. One is more applicable to algebra, whereas the other is more applicable to whole numbers and fractions.

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  11 месяцев назад

      Generally speaking, only inexperienced instructors will combine them together, because they just don't know any better.

    • @sillyshrapnel
      @sillyshrapnel 11 месяцев назад

      Thank you for taking the time to respond. Though I will mention in the example of 2(5-1) that you provided, both the distributive property (10-2=8) and PEMDAS (2x4=8) yield the same solution. It seems the two methods are interchangeable in the absence of a variable.@@GrammarHero

    Hey Grammar Hero. I got a 36 on my practice test, went through your subject by subject videos and passed the PiCat with a 46, as well as completing the confirmation. Unfortunately enough though I failed my drug test, so I now have to score a 50 or above in order to get cleared for a waiver due to failing the drug test. I still struggle with alot of the subjects on AR and MK. Considering I scored a 46 on my PiCat, and with only about a week and a half to up my score to 50. Do you think I’ll pass? Also what videos should I take a look at? I’m spending a ton of money just to get back to Baltimore MEPS for this whole process, I would highly appreciate your insight!!

    Hey grammar hero! Quick question, how did you get the square root of 169 on question 18? You say I should know but I don’t lol I wasn’t really great at math back in school

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  2 года назад +2

      Most schools make you memorize your perfect squares (and square roots) for 1 to 20. On page 7 of my reference sheet ( www.asvabapp.com/Reference.pdf ), I have a list of the ones you should know.
      13 x 13 = 169... the square root of 169 is 13.

    Question on #14, when you switched the last fraction " -5/2", why didn't the five stay negative and the 2 stay positive?

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  Год назад +1

      The negative sign is in front of the whole fraction and is not associated with the two or the five. Now, if you have -5/-2, it would become positive, because a negative divided by a negative is a positive.
      If you go through my basic math review playlist, you'll see that I have a video on multiplying and dividing negatives and positives here: ruclips.net/p/PLhlU-GzAQeG1OuvH5wqon9Hih6mhHXDNG

    silly question here.. why for number 21 did you use -6 to use on the equation?
    thank you!!

    • @GrammarHero

      I used it, so I could eliminate the y variable in both equations.

    For question 8, both A and B are correct? 2 times -9 = -18 and 2 + -9 = - 7 A and B are flipped and have the same outcome, or am I missing something. Thanks for the help!

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  2 года назад +1

      B is the only correct solution.
      The factors have to multiply to -18 and add to -7.
      A: 9 - 2 = 7

    In number 21 does -3x work for example can I use positive 3 on the top row so I can cancel the -3 on the bottom equation or it won’t work?

    • @GrammarHero
      @GrammarHero  3 года назад +1

      When you distribute the 3 on the top equation, you end up with this:
      3(-5x + y = -2) = -15x + 3y = -6
      Add that to the bottom equation:
      -15x + 3y = -6
      + -3x + 6y = -12
      ________________________
      - 18x + 9y = -18
