@@GrammarHero an hour into this, and I’m currently at work as a security so this is pretty helpful for studying I just sit here all day and study. Thank you so much for your hard work i and many others appreciate it💯
As a veteran, a good ASVAB score will set you up for success from the first day of boot camp. Regardless of branch of service, you will encounter both smart and dumb fellow recruits. And regardless of what the BS the recruiter feeds you about an MOS choice, chose something that will definitely have some use when you leave. Engineering, equipment repair, aviation, helicopters are good. Infantry, logistics, artillery, food service are bad. Good luck.

Good luck! This video should be a significant help, since it literally covers almost everything you need to know for the math knowledge subtest. Just keep this in mind: the lower you score initially, the longer it usually takes to make significant improvements. Hopefully, you do well next week, but if you don't, you might just have to invest a few more weeks studying for the test! In the grand scheme of things, spending a few extra weeks studying is nothing.
I've been study your videos for the past couple days, my test date is August 6th i'm super nervous but i can say that i have confidence because i'm studying you reference sheet also.
Took my asvab practice test and got a 64, but all the jobs I want need minimum 90, so my recruiter told me to dedicate my whole life towards math, since that's what I scored bad on.

@@GrammarHero swallowed my pride and studied for those 90 days. Thought I was simply just a dummy but turns out preparation is most important. Took the test and arrogantly got that humble pie I deserved.
Started with an 84 asvab and still have an 84 without studying. On a real note, its been 5 yrs since i took the asvab, and i plan to interchange to the airforce, so i have been studying for the afoqt with these videos, especially the word knowledge (up to part 25 so far). Ill update on what i get!
Good luck! If you got an 84 on the ASVAB, then you should be able to prepare yourself to do well on the AFOQT! That said, I would still recommend buying a cheap study guide from Amazon, if you haven't done so already. As you probably know by now, most of my videos are for the ASVAB, not necessarily the AFOQT (although there is some crossover between the math sections).
This comment is me studying atm, I’ll be replying again when I pass 🤗. Love the videos been studying a lot and watching a lot and I really hope I remember these formulas so much to take in stro by step
On that last one, if you’re bad at long division but good at seeing patterns, divide 3 by 150 then divide 3 by 7.5 and add both results to get 52.5 instead of dividing 157.5 by 3 the long way
Got a 35 on the asvab the first time, now I got 66 and they don’t believe I did the test so now I have to take a small portion of the asvab to proof that it was me. They really don’t want you to succeed huh?😑
If you're going to work for Uncle Sam, you have to get used to the bureaucracy. That said, I always encourage people to overstudy before they take their first test, because if they fail and have to retake it, there is a possibility that they'll have to take confirmation and verification tests. Good luck! On a positive note, you'll almost certainly pass it and be on your way in no time.

A negative times a negative is a positive. A negative plus a negative is still a negative. I have these addition and multiplication rules on my channel, so you may want to review them.
I recently came across your page after it was recommended to me on TikTok. I’m taking the ASVAB in a week and have been out of school for a while. Which part of your video would you recommend I focus on the most?
@GrammarHero Someone recommended your page on TikTok, so I checked it out on RUclips. I have less than a week to write-do you have a video compilation I can focus on?
@GrammarHero I have a question about problem no. 10. How did you end up dividing the 52 by 4? i am really bad at math and taking this as a refresher cause I haven't done this calculations for about 13 yrs now. Pls need advice and thank you in advance.
I do have a question. With number 9, when you changed 4x to -8, do we need to do that with every single problem that’s similar to this? Or is it a choice?
It is much easier to solve this one if you plug in -8 rather than 4x into the expression. You could plug in 4x, but that would be a tremendous amount of work!
What’s the best way to effectively study? I’ve watched plenty of your videos and wrote plenty of notes on formulas and strategies to solve specific problems but how do I test those strategies repeatedly so I can program the problem solving into my mind
can anyone help give advice as to how to do some of the problems in a faster way such as in question 31. The afoqt is timed and you have only less than a minute per question to finish on time, are the questions on the afoqt written so that every question can be done less than a minute or is it inevitable that you will bite the bullet on some questions and just use a educated guess to make up time? Thank you for the video and the help !!!!
Question for you sir, but first, thank you for this excellent content. I am recommending it to everyone in my unit. at 1:07:07 you say to "use the order of operations to simplify this in the correct order." However, everything I read online says to apply the distributive property (when able) BEFORE following the order of operations. More confoundingly, a few trials I have experimented with suggest it makes no difference, I get the same result whether applying the distributive property or just rolling strait into PEMDAS. Do you have any further guidance or thoughts on this topic?
PEMDAS is taught in elementary school, where they only work with whole numbers and fractions and combine that which is in parenthesis. The distributive property is taught in algebra, where you start working with letter variables and can't always simplify that which is in parenthesis.
Most instructors don't mention PEMDAS or the distributive property in the same lesson, because they exist for different purposes. One is more applicable to algebra, whereas the other is more applicable to whole numbers and fractions.
Thank you for taking the time to respond. Though I will mention in the example of 2(5-1) that you provided, both the distributive property (10-2=8) and PEMDAS (2x4=8) yield the same solution. It seems the two methods are interchangeable in the absence of a variable.@@GrammarHero
Awesome video! How close is the difficulty of these math problems compared to the AFOQT? Also, do you have an math knowledge help specifically for the AFOQT?
If you pick up a copy of an AFOQT study guide from Amazon, you’ll notice that the topics for Math Knowledge in there are almost identical to those that are on the ASVAB. Because of that, my ASVAB practice test videos generally help for the AFOQT, too. As for help, I have playlists that cover all of the topics you need to know for the math subtest. For instance, I have an algebra and geometry review playlist, among other things. Good luck!
When you multiply or divide across the inequality sign by a negative number, you have to change the direction of the sign. I believe I mentioned that in the video, and in the description of this video, there is also a link to a video, where I discuss inequalities, including when and why you change the direction of the sign.
The question tells you what to do. Let's replace polynomials with numbers. For example: What is 5 subtracted from 10? 10 - 5. What is 2 subtracted from 4? 4 - 2. What is 5 subtracted from 2? 2 - 5. What is 5x + 1 subtracted from 5x - 2? 5x -2 - (5x + 1).

Hey Grammar Hero. I got a 36 on my practice test, went through your subject by subject videos and passed the PiCat with a 46, as well as completing the confirmation. Unfortunately enough though I failed my drug test, so I now have to score a 50 or above in order to get cleared for a waiver due to failing the drug test. I still struggle with alot of the subjects on AR and MK. Considering I scored a 46 on my PiCat, and with only about a week and a half to up my score to 50. Do you think I’ll pass? Also what videos should I take a look at? I’m spending a ton of money just to get back to Baltimore MEPS for this whole process, I would highly appreciate your insight!!
Hey grammar hero! Quick question, how did you get the square root of 169 on question 18? You say I should know but I don’t lol I wasn’t really great at math back in school
Most schools make you memorize your perfect squares (and square roots) for 1 to 20. On page 7 of my reference sheet ( www.asvabapp.com/Reference.pdf ), I have a list of the ones you should know. 13 x 13 = 169... the square root of 169 is 13.
The negative sign is in front of the whole fraction and is not associated with the two or the five. Now, if you have -5/-2, it would become positive, because a negative divided by a negative is a positive. If you go through my basic math review playlist, you'll see that I have a video on multiplying and dividing negatives and positives here: ruclips.net/p/PLhlU-GzAQeG1OuvH5wqon9Hih6mhHXDNG
For question 8, both A and B are correct? 2 times -9 = -18 and 2 + -9 = - 7 A and B are flipped and have the same outcome, or am I missing something. Thanks for the help!
When you distribute the 3 on the top equation, you end up with this: 3(-5x + y = -2) = -15x + 3y = -6 Add that to the bottom equation: -15x + 3y = -6 + -3x + 6y = -12 ________________________ - 18x + 9y = -18
Could you clarify your math a bit on problem #4. Im not sure of the technique you used to turn 9/5 x 30/1 into just 9x6. Is there a video explaining this math?
Thanks for linking that video it helped tremendously. I watched a few videos and that concept came back pretty quickly. ill be ready to use it next time!
For #11, the answer choices should be inches, not centimeters. It was a typo.
Glad to see this was noticed 😄

Chances are your recruiter is trying to help you out, and you just don't realize it.
Good luck.
Can you explain why you say food service is bad?

why in @19:59 you put -50x3 when - + - is equal +? just curious
A negative times a negative is a positive. A negative plus a negative is still a negative. I have these addition and multiplication rules on my channel, so you may want to review them.
Just started committing, I’ll update when done
I recently came across your page after it was recommended to me on TikTok. I’m taking the ASVAB in a week and have been out of school for a while. Which part of your video would you recommend I focus on the most?
I don't have a TikTok?
@GrammarHero Someone recommended your page on TikTok, so I checked it out on RUclips. I have less than a week to write-do you have a video compilation I can focus on?
So at 19:57 you added when 54x4 -44x4 was subtracted why?
54x^4 - 44x^4 is read as 54x^4 minus 44x^4.
You can also read it as 54x^4 plus negative 44x^4.
Either way, the math is the same.
I take the asvab in 3 days just trying to study as best i can the minimum requirement is 31 hopefully i can get in there

What’s the best way to effectively study? I’ve watched plenty of your videos and wrote plenty of notes on formulas and strategies to solve specific problems but how do I test those strategies repeatedly so I can program the problem solving into my mind
Just go take the dang test!
can anyone help give advice as to how to do some of the problems in a faster way such as in question 31. The afoqt is timed and you have only less than a minute per question to finish on time, are the questions on the afoqt written so that every question can be done less than a minute or is it inevitable that you will bite the bullet on some questions and just use a educated guess to make up time? Thank you for the video and the help !!!!
You'll be able to solve most, not all of the questions, in under a minute. Some of them will take 2 to 3 minutes to solve, no matter what!

Thank you so very much for replying back so soon!!! I appreciate it greatly!
Examples:
1. 2(5 - 1) - here you do parenthesis first.
1. 2(5 - x) - here you have to distribute.
Most instructors don't mention PEMDAS or the distributive property in the same lesson, because they exist for different purposes. One is more applicable to algebra, whereas the other is more applicable to whole numbers and fractions.
Generally speaking, only inexperienced instructors will combine them together, because they just don't know any better.
Good luck!
I have a question why I change the address of the symbol in question number 28
When you multiply or divide across the inequality sign by a negative number, you have to change the direction of the sign. I believe I mentioned that in the video, and in the description of this video, there is also a link to a video, where I discuss inequalities, including when and why you change the direction of the sign.
In question 6 Did you put the second polynomials because 54 was greater than 44 ?
The question tells you what to do. Let's replace polynomials with numbers. For example:
What is 5 subtracted from 10? 10 - 5.
What is 2 subtracted from 4? 4 - 2.
What is 5 subtracted from 2? 2 - 5.
What is 5x + 1 subtracted from 5x - 2? 5x -2 - (5x + 1).

Hey grammar hero! Quick question, how did you get the square root of 169 on question 18? You say I should know but I don’t lol I wasn’t really great at math back in school

Question on #14, when you switched the last fraction " -5/2", why didn't the five stay negative and the 2 stay positive?
The negative sign is in front of the whole fraction and is not associated with the two or the five. Now, if you have -5/-2, it would become positive, because a negative divided by a negative is a positive.

Add that to the bottom equation:
-15x + 3y = -6
+ -3x + 6y = -12
________________________
- 18x + 9y = -18
