I did the opposite test with friends and family member from rural areas or red states. All but 2 of them identified as republican and conservative on the surface. I went ahead and asked them policy questions without any sort or political spin or buzzwords. With the obvious exceptions of gun laws and abortion, they almost all agreed with liberal positions and disagreed with many conservative positions. The moment I would tell them this most would get really upset or just go into denial. It's ridiculous how seemingly a majority of voters have no idea what they are voting for or why.
I also did the same thing with 3 state propositions. People would decide for or against simply based on the wording of the proposition, then I would tell them which party or people endorsed or opposed the proposition and many would change their mind simply because of that.

I don't understand this. These two parties were never supposed to have split in the first place. We need both sides to work together instead of splitting apart because we can't rely on just one side, we should be able to reach compromises that both sides would agree with instead of arguing over which side is "right" because in reality, neither side is entirely right.
