    There is a roughly two minute introduction to this song called 'Sirius'... The two are meant to be played together... "Sirius/Eye in the Sky". I did make a point of this when I recommended it but, oh well. You really should listen to the complete full version at some point. You might even recognize Sirius if you were ever into 90s era Bulls Basketball. 😉
    "I Wouldn't Want to be Like You" is another excellent Alan Parsons song.

    I grew up hearing this as a stand alone song on the radio, but hearing with the Sirius intro is exponentially better. This song doesn’t get old.

    I discovered him Halloween night 1977 when the rock station I was listening to started playing "The Raven" from his first album, based on the Edgar Allen Poe poem.

    This is usually played as a double - SIRIUS/EYE IN THE SKY. Personal favorites include PSYCHOBABBLE, CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, I ROBOT/I WOULDN'T WANT TO BE LIKE YOU, BREAKDOWN, TIME, THE GOLD BUG, THE RAVEN, DAMNED IF I DO, LUCIFER - always hit the official music video whenever possible, or the studio album recording.

    This is a deep and varied rabbit hole, Bro... most of it is very good, some of it is truly brilliant!
    One of my favorite instrumental tracks of all time is, "I Robot", the title track of Parson's 1977, second album.

    You made a common mistake made by a lot of reactors. This song needs to be paired with Sirius, which is the instrumental intro to this song. It's listed as a separate track, but it is part of this song. Not your fault, you didn't know. A lot of NBA and other sports teams use Sirius for the player introductions.

    Parsons is primarily a producer. After his work on Dark Side of the Moon, he began doing his own "project". He approaches each album as a producer does a movie. He and Eric write the music and lyrics, then try to hire the best players for each part. Some of his albums may have up to 6 vocalists, and each is centered around a theme. The 1st the works of Poe, 2nd Asimov's I Robot, 3rd Pyramid power and so on. This one is possibly centered on a "higher power", but even after all these decades it's a bit elusive.

    The Alan Parsons Project is like no other band! They mainly consisted of Alan Parsons as Producer, Engineer and Instrumental Writer and Eric Woolfson, Lyric & Music Writer and sometimes Lead Vocalist starting from their 5th album. They hand-picked musicians that worked especially well with each written song therefore, during their VERY successful run from 1976 throughout the 80's, they made a decision NOT be a live band. They were also a band that had 1/3 of their songs that were instrumentals, probably over 2 dozen lead singers throughout the years, around 10 songs that had a female lead vocalist, along with many songs with a full orchestra. With all these creative decisions, they felt that they could not replicate what people heard on their albums to be a LIVE band in the 70's and 80's. That is probably why they are not as well-known as other groups during their heyday like Journey, Kansas, Pink Floyd among many others. In the 1990's they were able to use technology reproduce the songs to become a live band and (in some cases) use a full orchestra. It's a shame that they are not in the RR Hall of Fame and although Eric Woolfson passed away about 15 years ago (RIP), Mr. Parsons is still releasing great music. I could suggest some songs for you to listen to, but as far as I'm concerned, just pick out any of their nearly 200 songs and I think you will realize hit or no hit, you can't go wrong with Alan Parsons!! You have a great station Shawn and I look forward to your releases!!

    They have such a dreamy sound that it's easy to miss all the details. Everything is very carefully constructed. For how laid back it feels the lyrics and delivery are pretty hard hitting too.
    "Don't cry, I ain't changing my mind" makes it a pretty definitive goodbye.

  • @obiwanbenobi4943
    @obiwanbenobi4943 8 месяцев назад +2

    Every album by them seems to be fairly cohesive and story driven. I'm always glad to hear them. The Turn of a Friendly Card is probably my favorite and most listened to of theirs.
    Smooth fade is the term I use for this song. I'm done, I'm gone, I'm good, Goodbye...

  • @sourisvoleur4854
    @sourisvoleur4854 8 месяцев назад +4

    You missed the intro track, "Sirius." The two go together. This was done a bunch in the 70s and 80s, mostly due to money concerns -- cutting it in two did something for the bean counters (frankly I doubt it helped the artist at all). Similar pairings are ""A Dream within a Dream" and "The Raven" on the Alan Parsons Project album Tales of Mystery and Imagination (definitely do the new version with Orson Welles), "Foreplay" and "Long Time" on Boston's first album, and "Space Intro" and "Fly Like an Eagle" on Steve Miller Band's Fly Like an Eagle album.

    Can you hear how beautiful the sound engineering is? He was/is the best sound engineer going. He engineered Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon among many, many more hits.
    You can always tell a Parsons production because it sound clean, crisp and you can pick up every little instrument in there.

    Man this guy made some great music. As an engineer and producer he knew the best studio musicians to pick from. Another band with a deep catalog. Shawn you should start from the beginning with the Raven from Tales of Mystery and Imagination [Edgar Allan Poe}. His cowriter Eric Woolfson was really into Poe Enjoy
