    Side wall -> cut 45 deg chamfer always ;) no round because it gives roll over ;)

    Interesting information it should be possible to test this theory about chunking by adjusting the tyre profile even further than just rounding off edges. The implication of this is that the current design of tyre truers is not optimal as they do not enable you to easily create an optimal profile. Also the design of the current rims and the lateral composition of the foam in the tyre would also not be optimal. As you mentioned this eventually comes down to a trade off between profile, diameter, material and contact patch size. Certainly I can see parallels between what you are saying and some real world tyre failures e.g. In F1 we have seen side walls tearing due to lateral cornering forces
