McConnell Taping for the Knee

    This is one common way I instruct patients who have patellofemoral syndrome or anterior knee pain tape their knee. You need to have the white CoverRoll (tinyurl.com/ama...) and the brown Leukotape (tinyurl.com/ama.... You won't find this tape in your local pharmacy.
    It is recommended that you first consult with your healthcare professional before performing the activities in this video as it may not be appropriate for your particular diagnosis or pain.

    I am on my 2nd day of using this method, as advised by my 5th and newest orthopedic doctor. I've been suffering from knee pain and grinding for 11 years now (stemming from a grade 3 MCL tear while playing basketball in high school), and like I said, it's taken 5 docs to get somewhere. After taping, I immediately felt like my knee was 100% normal! No pain, no grinding! I almost started crying because it was so amazing! It's like a miracle! I wish I would've known about it sooner!

    I was having my knee taped by my PT but found I couldn't replicate her work at home. This is by far the best tutorial I have seen on youtube and is very simple to do yourself. I noticed the difference immediately after taping. Thanks so much.

    @Denrarehund The taping is wonderful! I haven't done it recently, but it honestly seems like it has somehow put my knee back on track, even with the limited amount of taping I have done! This summer, while taping, I ran for the first time in 11 years!! I cried when I got home because I was so happy! I plan to tape and rehab it this winter to get my muscles built up and see how it's doing by spring and maybe I'll be able to run again, but longer distance. Let me know how it goes for you! GL! :)

    I made the taping but this time there is a pain anteromedially. What should I do?

    @jennaaerial The white tape needs to be able to adhere well. I would advise ordering it online as you won't find it in a local drugstore. Search this online: Cover-Roll® Stretch Tape 2"

    Can you demonstrate the same type of taping for Pes Anserine Bursitis and also do one for Trochanteric Bursitis?

    @Cachorrinho1907 Forgot to mention do it to both sides while rolling. I ended up putting to much emphasis on the one good knee. Both of mine happened in half guard. One was forced out the other directly my own careless fault. but with tape and braces (Good ones not just a neoprene slip on) it should send off to your brain to treat both equally.

    Have you seen someone in Sports Medicine instead of just your family physician? Do you ever feel your knee give out? Does it lock at times (as in, you can't bend it)? Why don't you send me a message here on the site and explain to me a little bit more about your injury.

    I just had patella retinacular repair surgery on my left knee a few months ago & was pretty much pain free up until I returned to work & am having to tape my knee again. Im using Kinesio tape but where can I get the white tape?

    Hey!
    I am a girl 17 years old.
    When i was in 8th grade i got my self a knee injury in running training at school and i heard like a pop and it hurt very badly and my doctor thought Acl and Mcl but now almost 4years later still have the pain i do have a kneepads and i tape my knee to but it still hurt's I had to quit all my active varieties because of the pain.

    @Cachorrinho1907 I dislocated both of mine During BJJ. I have floaters. Im using the verticle taping with a Mcdavid level II Ligament brace. See if it helps.

    4:35 - if the top of the patella, as you said, is 12 o'clock and bottom is 6 o'clock, then where you pulled the tape, there is 2 o'clock and not 10 o'clock, lol

    @propagandawar23 I dislocated mine 3 different times in bjj. One from top of side control, and twice from mount using grape vine. Now I never straighten my legs while on top. I also ware two layers of knee padding to stop direct pressure on the patella. My knee healed the first two times but now it still grinds. Still looking for a fix.

    How does a health care worker determine which way your knee has tracked incorrectly?

      When contracting the muscle you can see which direction the kneecap is being pulled, in or out your pelvis. You have to work on the muscle chain that is not pulling towards its direction, so that your kneecap gets to stay kind of in the middle

    Is it okay for me to apply the leukotape straight onto the skin, and use it only for 1-3 hrs?

    I have been back like 100times but they always send me home and tell me to rest but the pain never goes away ... and i have a hard time to walk during days.

    I sufferd knee injurie running 700m outdoors torn everything in My knee on chruches for 6mounths never got Well used to be Pro athlead in sports ended sporting because of my pain and can not live a normal life alot more detales.

      kevin feige I tried KT tape and even with the grabbing of extra skin and tugging, it still slowly stretched out and didn’t hold the kneecap in place to track correctly

      trying using the white tape in this video (fixomull) or some underwrap and then tape on top of that.
