What a fantastic haul. I am Scottish but really interested in reading Australian literature - I have quite the collection. Would love to see a video dedicated to Australian authors. 😊
Thanks so much! I can’t wait to start reading them! ☺️ I have a reading vlog coming up soon where I read just Australian books, and I’d love to make some videos about my favourite Aussie authors and books 🇦🇺 Have you read any Australian books?
@@literally_elly I've read quite a few! 1. A Town Like Alice 2. Picnic at Hanging Rock 3. My Brilliant Career 4. Jasper Jones 5. The Harp in the South 6. Poor Man's Orange 7. Bush Studies 8. The Heart of the Continent 9. Cloudstreet 10. The Secret River 11. The Dry 12. Several Phryne Fisher mysteries 13. Flyaway 14. Henry Lawson Short Stories I have many more on my Aussie TBR including The Yield, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, The Trauma Cleaner and A Fortunate Life 🇦🇺🐨🦘
Oh wow! That's such a great list! 😍😯 So many great books on there-- so many I really need to read! I just bought The Harp in the South and The Secret River is one I really want to get to asap! What did you think of those two?
I just read Tender is the Night and I really enjoyed it! The language seems so modern and the characters are very realistic, definitely an easy classic to get into :)
Yes! Fitzgerald I’ve found is very accessible. I’ve only read a couple of his novels and some short stories but I can’t wait to read more! Do you have a favourite Fitzgerald?
Thank you so much! 😊🥰 I have a few videos to upload in the next couple weeks but I'm hoping to post a bookshelf tour early December! 👀 (I'm currently trying to decide what type of tour I want to do -- whether a more overview-y tour, one where I show every single book (eek), or a tour focusing on my classics shelves. Or all of them! I haven't decided yet hahahah!)
Great classics haul! Thank you for reminding me about Cranford. When I read North and South and Wives and Daughters, I was like, definitely Cranford next! It has been like 5 years since then lol 😂
I really liked them, and both of them have mini series which were also great! But I just like books set around that time period, they are generally pretty slow, and not going to be everyone’s cup of tea 😊
@@literally_elly they are : The Bible (i'll call it the great classic from now on) Les mis The count of monte cristo Wuthering heights The picture of Dorian Gray
I remember I was in highschool when I first read Les Mis, what a beautiful book honestly, you will not regret reading it. Also I've noticed that the spanish copies of my books are slimmer than the english versions, for example, I have Don Quixote both in Spanish and English and the english version is just absurd, super big. I don't know why, maybe it's the opposite situation of the translated books to german lol. Also I laughed outloud when you read Jean Valjean's name for the first time xd, it just caught me off guard, happy reading!
I should’ve prepared by looking up the proper pronunciations! (But knowing me I probably still would’ve said them wrong 😂😅) I definitely can’t wait to read it. A lot of people have said it’s a great book ☺️
I like your videos! My 2nd time watching this one. YOur bookshelf looks good Btw, i thought the book mentioned in Serendipity was something else, Love in the Time of Cholera?
Oh wow thank you so much! The fact you watched it twice makes me smile so much! 😊😊 You're definitely right! The Márquez book is the book mentioned in Serendipity. I was thinking of Must Love Dogs because Cusack's character is obsessed with the Dr Zhivago film but accidentally said Serendipity. Oops!
All I can say is that you have some great and wonderful books 📚 in your collection that you should read and I believe that you will enjoy and love ❤️ WAR AND PEACE is over 1400 pages and my favourite book so wishing you all the best with your reading 📖 love your fellow Aussie John ❤❤
I think the only things I can recommend for Les Mis are watch the musical! And also, don't be afraid to skim- Hugo is notorious for PAGES of useless description of everything
elly, please read the bell jar immediatelyy! the new york vibes are iconic. I have a feeling you will really enjoy sylvia's writing style.
Next month! Definitely! I can’t wait 😍😁
