Just watching the Ubisoft Forward stream while stumbling upon this video. It's impressive the legacy you created. Kudos and thank you for the games!
one of the most realistic movements i ever seen in a video game
eerily beautiful aesthetic.
a class of its own 👑
Thank you for the archives 🙏
Thanks for the great comments! To answer the questions about this clip's provenance, I'm not sure of the exact date. It seems to be from a videotape, I'm guessing we made at the time for demo purposes or to show to a publisher (sometime in mid- to late 1994). The original renders and animation would have been sharp on PC. The lighting is different from the renders in the final game--seems a bit darker and moodier. The temp music definitely adds atmosphere (does anyone recognize it, might it be from Twin Peaks?) The original assets are likely archived at the Strong Museum with the rest of my collection, but it would take a team of dedicated and motivated researchers to dig in and find them.
This is interesting. Is there a higher quality version of the animation and backgrounds featured in this video?
Extremely impressive for 1994. This is so much MORE interactive and life-like than those 'FMV adventure games' of that era, which only used FMV in cutscenes or dialogue. This is lightyears ahead!
Try Phantasmagoria (1995)
@@wilemplank8154 tried it and loved it. I also liked Phantasmagoria 2. My favorite FMV game remains the Tex Murphy series though. Also way ahead of its time. The Last Express, however, is in a league of its own, a game so unique and 'niche', it is crazy to me that it even got released at all!
Ha... Sophie the extroverted is surely going back to her cabin to find her introverted friend/lover
You pursued a cinematic game. That’s a wonderful thing that was ahead of its time. 😊 Was Tommy involved in the direction? 😮
Tomi Pierce and I co-wrote the script for the game!
@@JordanMechner So, you have an attachment to it.
@@JordanMechner Can we play this proof of concept or is it just a video?
Seems like 3D backgrounds downgraded?
I like the lighting though.
🤔 Who’s this mystery lady?
It's actress Diana Aldcroft (who played "Sophie" in the final game), in an early 1994 test shoot. You can see more footage from that shoot in this channel, and in my old journals posted on my website. Link in video description
