    This is excellent information. I see it as better than Justin Rhodes design. Thank you

    I like how your design fits right over your raised bed garden plots. That is a nice design feature that I will probably be using from you. Great ideas, it looks like we will be getting chickens for Christmas this year.

    Nice tractor. I like that you salvaged the old pool walls to use as roofing.

    I do like the ideal of 2 level top for nest box and all that space under for chickens or rabbits to run around

    Great coop but one question...dont the raccoons etc. Manage to go under? I think I would have to put a screen of some sort on bottom.

      @nashsi  5 лет назад +2

      They would have to dig into the dirt to get under the chicken tractor. We didn't have any trouble with that.

    no problem with wind at all. I think it's because of the rounded roof and the weight of the wood inside. the screws through the PVC have not been a problem. I thought they might be. But the PVC is soft enough that it holds very nicely

      1 in? 3/4? what about winter? is it sturdy?

    Two people could easily move it without the wheels, but it is pretty hard for one person. That's why I added the wheels.
    The PVC pipes are thick enough that the sheetrock screws I used continue to hold very well. The only clamp that came off was due to being scraped off with a good deal of force while moving it. None of the PVC to PVC screws have failed. I have had trouble with the staples that hold the hardware fabric to the wood. I've had to replace many of those. I should probably use screws there also.

    6 yrs old....how is the PVC holding up ?

    • @nashsi

      Since I used outdoor electrical conduit, they may still be fine. But I gave them away in 2015 when we sold our place to downsize and simplify. So, I don't know for sure...

    It's been just about four years; are your chicken tractors still in use?

    • @nashsi
      @nashsi  7 лет назад +3

      We successfully used them until the fall of 2015, when we gave the chickens and tractors away in preparation to sell our property. I know they were used for some time after that, but I've lost track of those people, so don't know if they are still being used.

    Well done. I am left wondering though, how you keep the screws connecting the PVC, and the clamps holding down the hardware fabric from stripping out of the thin hold they have in the PVC when it is flexing apart every time you move it.

    Have you ever had any problems with wind? I have a similar build that was blown over this morning. It's not fun chasing chickens in the rain...

  • @rondambarnes

    Raccoons can also turn those latches. You may want to look into a better locking mechanism. We had to screw ours shut to keep those vermin out of it!

  • @nashsi

    I don't know the exact width. Since this build I've moved and gave the chicken tractors away. I know that I made inside to fit 4 foot width garden bed so it's probably 4 1/2 to 5 feet wide.

    Even though the title of the video is "Making a Chicken Tractor". In a video lasting 9:58 minutes, we did not see anything being made or montaged.

    Shouldn't need any wheels as small as it is, just pull it around like a sled
