Quick safety tip, Atlanta. Keep the handle on your frying pan/pot pointed 30 degrees backwards, so that it is much harder to accidentally hit the handle and spill hot oil you, or your family members (including your pup). Love watching you guys' videos, btw. Seeing Denzel drop the corn dog into the oil while standing so close to the pan kind of scared me. Just some safety pointers. Thanks, guys.
Yeah, as someone who worked in kitchens for over a decade, any time you're dropping something into hot oil like that, you want the part that is dropping to be facing away from you, to ensure you get no splashback.
Hot oil is no joke! I let a pan with about an inch of oil get too hot. When I touched the handle the oil burst into flame. You CANT put an oil fire out with water. Luckily I had the correct lid close at hand and I could slide the lid on quickly, the lack of air extinguished the fire. Panicking was an understatement.
@@blakerh Not competing or anything, but I was once changing the oil from an industrial fryer, when I picked up the pot it caught on the drain spout and a little splashed onto my hand causing that hand to let go and about 5 liters of hot oil poured onto my foot. About 6 months and a few skin grafts later and I had a foot that almost didn't look like hamburger.
@@lisal6121 Perfect response on your part. Only three ways to save a house from an oil fire. Suffocation by smothering with a lid, as long as the hot oil fire hasn't gotten too hot, removal by carrying it outside (very dangerous), or by fire extinguisher (also very dangerous, unless you are properly trained). With a fire extinguisher, always remember to turn off the heat FIRST! Then, when spraying the fire extinguisher, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER point it directly at the oil fire. ALWAYS START ABOVE THE FIRE, and move down somewhat slowly to extinguish the fire. Also, while spraying your fire extinguisher, swipe slightly side-to-side. NEVER NEVER NEVER fire off your fire extinguisher from less than ten feet away, unless you have no other choice. IF YOU ARE WITHIN FIVE FEET, leave, and call the fire department. Treat ALL liquid based fires this way. If you point the fire extinguisher directly at a liquid based fire, it can blow burning oil (on-fire oil) onto surrounding walls, crevices, and even people and animals in some circumstances... and can sometimes blow the burning liquid directly back at you.

Great job! As an American (fry expert), I have two tips: when frying, remember that whatever you’re frying will continue to cook outside of the oil. The rule is that fried foods will get 1-2 shades darker as it cools. 2nd tip: instead of putting fried food on paper towels, put a wire rack on a plate and put your food on the rack. Your food will be way crispier! Those corn dogs turned out amazing :)

Same here. I've loved corn dogs ever since I was a kid. Now that I've grown up, I've become a bit of a corn dog snob. The hot dog sausage must be from beef/pork, NOT chicken. I refuse to eat corn dogs made with chicken meat.

At a lot of restaurants they have these new coke machines with so many options for each normal soda pop. Like 7 different flavors. I work in the kitchen, I mix them up all the time trying new flavors.
100% corn dogs are eaten with MUSTARD!! Glad you found that out!! Also... best corn dogs I ever made were from an Alton Brown recipe he gave on his old show 'Good Eats'! It used to be on Netflix but haven't checked lately if it is still there. He used creamed corn in the recipe!!
Corn dogs are my go to fair/festival food! It's about the only time I eat them because there's just something better when you eat them at a fair/festival. I love mine with both ketchup and mustard - so good 😋
Growing up in Iowa, my mom would mix ketchup, mustard, and a little mayo together, that was our fish sticks sauce. I still use it to this day for almost everything. But I do like me a good Heinz 57 sauce.
I (USA) had a couple corn-dogs just a few days ago. Corn bread can be a bit dry by itself, IMO. Cornbread will forever remind me of how heavenly it tasted with my mother's vegetarian red bean chili, diced raw onions, sour cream, and shredded cheese. That'll fill you up.
I bought an old cooker, like a very early (1920s) crock pot. The lid clamps down. Well I mixed up a batch of corn bread and put in 3/4ths of a can of kernel corn, and cooked it in the cooker, in 2 mini loaf pans. It came out very moist. I think the canned corn helped and the steam not being able to escape helped but it took like over an hour to cook. But it was very good. Also I think it being rather high - as the pan even though it was small was a loaf shaped pan, helped too. I've cooked my cornbread when the pan was too big and the cornbread was too thin and it came out very dry. I think like a muffin, it needs to be a certain height when the batter is raw to hold in the moisture.
@@yournewzealandfamily here's something similar y'all should try making sometime only difference it's more of Breakfast style: French Toast with Sausage on a Stick & Pancakes with Sausage on a Stick plus those 2 ain't complete without Pancake Syrup 2 dip them in!
It honestly never occurred to me to make my own. Those look so good! In the US we generally just buy them from the grocery store in the frozen section and then heat them up in the oven before eating. At a carnival or fair they will do them in oil from scratch like that though. You’re making me want to try making these now. Also, I like to mix ketchup and mustard together for hot dogs or corn dogs. They’re good plain too. Also you’ve got to try cornbread. It’s made in a square cake pan and is basically the same batter as a corn dog. Probably can find a recipe online. It’s a bit fluffier than that batter. And we eat it with butter and honey or sometimes will spoon chili over it (kind of a thick stew of beans and hamburger). It’s so delicious.
If you're an old southern lady (me), you make corn bread in an iron skillet. The best corn meal is White Lily. I use self-rising (no need to add salt or baking powder). If you can find a bag of White Lily, the recipe is on the back. I always make mine a little thinner than suggested. It is WONDERFUL. Eat it with anything. We always have it with soup beans, but anything is good. My mama used to eat it with breakfast gravy. I like it that way, too. We just eat it with a meal, no matter what we're having. Hope you can find White Lily somewhere. If not, let me know and I'll ship you a bag! Blessings!
I love cornbread with grape jelly/jam. I rarely have it with butter. But the cornbread, for me, has to be the gritty kind, like Jiffy has. The only way to go. If it's not gritty, it's more like corn cake.
@@curtisrobinson7962 I would like to see them try different dipping sauces that viewers recommend to vote which one they like best. I will definitely try the mustard and sriracha. It sounds good. :)

4:44 helpful kitchen safety tip: keep pot handles turned toward the BACK of the stove. this reduces the chance of bumping into it and knocking a pot of hot water or oil all over yourself or someone else.
When I (63f) was a teenager, there was a mall in town that had a corn dog stand in the mall. They served corn dogs, cheese dogs and shish-ka-dogs. The cheese dogs were made by putting a stick of cheese on the skewer and then, dipping the cheese in the corn bread mixture and then, into boiling oil. The shish-ka-dog was made by putting bite-sized pieces of hot dog and cheese on the skewer like a kabob (every other piece) and dipping it in the corn bread mixture and then, into the oil. Those were my FAVORITE!!! They had the corn bread mixture in a metal container and boiling oil in another metal container. It was set up so that you could watch the workers make the dogs, which was fun to watch! I hope you see this so that you can try making cheese dogs and shish-ka-dogs.
Someone else mentioned this in their comment, which I had forgotten about because it's been a while since I've had them, but you guys should try breakfast sausage and pancake on a stick. They're delicious! Just put a cooked breakfast sausage link on a stick, dip it in pancake batter (blueberry pancake is even better, imo) and fry it in the same way as regular corn dogs, and eat them dipped in maple syrup. You can even make them ahead and freeze them, then reheat them in the oven or microwave for a quick breakfast on the go! Yum!
Hooray - mustard wins! Absolutely my favorite with corn dogs, and...I am in awe of all of you for making them from scratch - I have only had them pre-made. Always fun to have them at the State Fair, too. Thanks for all the "corny" jokes - loved how you all cracked yourselves up! LOL
Love that you guys tried actual American style Corn Dogs. Another channel I watch said they were trying American Corn Dogs but really they tried Korean Corn Dogs. Totally different. Corn Dogs are definitely synonymous with all of the United but being born in raised in the South and like to convince myself we know the Corn Dog just a little bit better and mustard is the only thing I have ever seen on a Corn Dog
Yep, Korean Corn Dogs are a misnomer because it contains no corn. It usually uses rice flour. Even the Korean places that sell it don't call it corn dogs; they just call it Korean hotdogs; but everyone tends to call it a corn dog because that's what it looks like.
infinite options with corn dogs try BBQ sauces Mexican spices you can include fine chopped peppers or onions into the batter some people like a sweet topping to dip into it's all regional and what's readily available or just individual taste ... it all comes down to Happy Accidents concerning toppings feel free to just try anything.
This is amazing. I’ve never once made a corn dog, Yet I’ve lost count on how many I’ve eaten throughout my life. I usually just get mine from Quick-Trip (Gas station/fuel mart) Or frozen from a grocery store. I personally don’t like mustard, so it’s Ketchup for me. Unless I get the “pancake + sausage” corn dogs then it’s maple syrup 👌
Oh yeah! Mustard on corn dogs is the only way to go. The bite from the mustard melds so we'll with the sweet corn batter. Ketchup tends to make it too sweet, and it over powers the sweetness of the corn batter 😊
A County Fair favorite is Funnel cakes! Have one with a corn dog, and that is the great combo, but then add a hot roasted shucked corn cob, dipped in melted butter, and 🤯 !! Save room for spun cotton candy, and maybe a deep fried Twinkie / Zinger / Oreo!
You'd make a killing I think, who doesn't love some southern comfort food. Every video I have seen on here of people trying southern food from other countries loves it.

Congratulations! Old American here, and I never ever actually MADE corn dogs! I only get them at festivals, or buy them in the supermarket frozen. Yours? Fresh made? They have to be AMAZING!
I haven't had corn dogs in ages! I prefer them with mustard or ketchup and mustard. They also sell pre-made ones here in the U.S. in the freezer section of most supermarkets. I haven't tried those, though. Did you know there's a National Corn Dog Day? I just found that out....haha. It was on March 19th this year and will be on March 18th next year.
I *so* want to eat corn dogs again, but finding gluten-free ones is a struggle and a half. (I probably *could* make my own, but I'm a disaster in the kitchen even *without* deep frying anything.)
@@brigidtheirish If you're not super worried about aesthetics you can bake them at 425-450 for about 12-15 minutes. , They wont be the perfect shape, but it will taste just as good.

Love me some corndogs. Mustard is my go to condiment. I recently learned about chili cheese corndogs. Where you slice the corndog down the middle and put chili and cheese. Then bake them until cheese is melted. Tastes soooo good.
I love watching Atlanta's Kitchen episodes, but it was so fun to see you all cooking together 😁 I have never had deep fried corn dogs made from scratch...only the pre-made ones from freezer section at the grocery store. I believe the ones I buy are made with beef and we love them! I haven't tried mustard with them, only ketchup, so I will definitely do that next time we have some 😁
I have to try them as well. I commend her making from scratch. I’ve done hot oil with funnel cakes and potato pancakes but really not a fan of cooking with either one. I might try the store bought and use the convection setting. We have at least 2 versions of mustard on hand. I’ve been seeing many versions of catsup on store shelves lately as well.
We used to have a restaurant in the mall called Corny Island. 🤣😂 Don't know why they called it Corny Island in first place. Anyway they made homemade corn dogs and use real potatoes french fries. It's was popular for a while until the owner passed away. And the pretzels came in the mall is was opened for awhile. That's when the whole world shuts down. I missed those two things in the mall.
We have corndogs available all year long at our Sonic Drive-in restaurants. Pretty close in taste to State Fair Corn Dogs. Sonic will sometimes have Corn Dog sales where you either get them for 50cents each or buy one get one free, which is about 75cents. Also a local shop in OKC that makes Corn Dogs with the same corn meal batter, but cooks them with any type of sausage or hotdog inside, such as Bratwurst, Knackwurst, Hot Links, Hot Dogs (chicken, turkey, beef) or conventional hot dogs(cheap hot dogs) which contain a mixture of pork, chicken, beef. I like the conventional corn dogs because that is what I grew up eating. To just be extreme, the stat fairs will offer foot long corn dogs, usually 2 hotdogs on 1 stick. Also can find the batter with jalapenos mixed in to spice things up. Now they will even mix fruity pebbles into the batter, not for me. My former wife made them for her kids w/o the stick. When she made them for me, I wanted to jab a chop stick inside just to have it on a stick. That's the fun thing about eating corn dogs, its on a stick! I would like to see someone take a Ke-Bab and 'Corn Dog" it though, just to try it. Maybe Atlanta could try it. I would eat it! All jokes aside, Very Funny and Corny episode!
@@juliewhite7469 I feel like any type of corn bread variation you can make, can also be made into a corn dog. I make 'Mexican Cornbread', where I add a small can of the Green Giant 'Mexi-corn' to my Jiffy corn bread batter, as well as a handful or 2 of cheddar cheese, some times I have to increase the milk just a tad, maybe a tablespoon. So we tried it with corn dogs, turned out really good.
My hubby and I are in our 70s and we still love to eat corndogs! We get ours in the freezer section. It's not the same as eating them at a county fair but we enjoy them just the same. I prefer Hunt's ketchup on mine. :)
I grew up eating Hunts Ketchup, and then we switched to Heinz somewhere along the way. I ate some Hunts a few years ago and it was better. My favorite now is French's because it tastes like the Monarch ketchup packets you get at some restaurants. I don't even know what I may put on a corn dog until I open the fridge. Mayonnaise mixed with mustard, straight mustard, mustard mixed with honey, ketchup, or rarely some BBQ sauce which I normally regret.
The fact that y'all made homemade corn dogs is amazing. I say that because I've only ever witnessed somebody make corn dogs from scratch one time in my whole life every other time they're bought in a frozen box at Walmart or whatever grocery store. Good for you guys! I bet they tasted amazing.
Agreed I've never made them myself, they've inspired me. I usually wait for the carnival or fair and pair it with some Fiske fries topped with malt vinegar and a real lemonade to wash it down. PS Mustard or ketchup is all that is required. I did once have one wrapped in bacon, not sure how they achieved that.
I think the sticks tend to be flat here too. I don't recall ever having one with a skewer. I definitely prefer the mustard/ketchup mix at around a ratio of 35% mustard to 65% ketchup. I use the corn dog to blend the two together.
Here's my dad joke! Why did the moron tip toe past the medicine cabinet? Because he didn't want to wake the sleeping pills! lol We LOVE corn dogs here. I put both mustard and ketchup on mine. Hubby likes BBQ sauce! Have a great weekend and much love from Florida!
Your videos are always a high point of my day. As for the corn dog condiments, I create a mixture of ketchup and mustard (about half and half) and use that as my dip. My daughters do the same with their families now, and I suspect my grandkids will pass it down as well. They just don't taste the same with *only* ketchup or mustard anymore.

I like to dip my corn dogs in both ketchup and mustard at the same time.. You guys should try American Fair Foods.. Not sure how much of these things you have tried or have in NZ, but staple fair foods in America are the Corn Dogs, Elephant Ears, Funnel Cakes, Deep Fried Ice Cream, Deep Fried Oreos, Deep Fried Butter… (lots of deep fried things lol)
Awesome video as always. My condolences on the passing of your Queen. She may have slowed down in the last year but she never retired or quit & that is quite admirable.
It's wonderful that you are spending such truly quality time with your family. These children are blessed to get such a great start in the world. I'm glad you like the corn dogs. As for my personal twist on them. Include 2 teaspoons onion powder and 1 teaspoon season salt in the batter while mixing it up. The flavor changes and is ideal with mustard only (no ketchup on my dogs, but you do you). I hope you have the opportunity to try this version. Take care
Nice video, corn dogs are great. Regarding the pork sausage: in the U.S. we would put that on a stick as well but we would dip it in pancake batter, deep fry and serve with maple syrup. yum
I LOVE corn dogs, and have since I was a kid! Yes, they're a HUGE thing at many state fairs. Ours in Texas is next month and I know the corn dogs will be beyond amazing. There's just something about walking around a fair while munching on a corn dog slathered in mustard that's deeply ingrained into our culture. Since you asked, yes, you can absolutely put other things besides mustard on a corn dog; here in Texas, serving them in paper bowl covered in chili & cheese is very popular. I suggest you give this a try, I'm sure you'll love it. Cheers Y'all!
Do you do a Denzi eating your corn dog ever or is it biting strictly from one end to the, I guess last bite at bottom? I suspect most people pull the stick out prior to eating them, especially if they’re walking around at a fair? I wouldn’t really know. I’ve never tried them myself since I don’t eat a lot of “fried” food, per se. I’m usually doing baked or grilled.
The corn dog was actually invented in Texas by Fletcher's and given out free at the Great State Fair of Texas the first year to introduce them. I can't remember off hand what year that was, but a staple at the fair ever since.

I love watching your videos. They bring me so much cheer. To see you all react to common and simple things we take for granted is amazing. Personally, I'm a mustard and ketchup corndog combo kinda girl. But another alternative to the corndog, besides mini corndogs, is the "Pigs-In-The-Blanket". Wrap biscuit dough around a hotdog, cook in the oven for amount of time on the biscuits, and enjoy with mustard, ketchup, or the combo of them. I use canned biscuits, it saves time. Although another good alternative to the Pigs-In-The-Blanket, is using croissant dough instead of biscuit.

I've lived in the US all my life and I didn't know there was such a thing as Raspberry Coke until I saw it in your video. Now I want to try it.
At a lot of restaurants they have these new coke machines with so many options for each normal soda pop. Like 7 different flavors. I work in the kitchen, I mix them up all the time trying new flavors.
Same thing first time hearing about raspberry coke
100% corn dogs are eaten with MUSTARD!! Glad you found that out!! Also... best corn dogs I ever made were from an Alton Brown recipe he gave on his old show 'Good Eats'! It used to be on Netflix but haven't checked lately if it is still there. He used creamed corn in the recipe!!
I like to mix some ketchup and plain yellow mustard.
I don't care for mustard but absolutely have to have it with my corn dog.

Funnel cake is so good
Yes!!!!
Yes!!
Yes I looooove Funnel Cakes and at our fair too!
Corn dogs are my go to fair/festival food! It's about the only time I eat them because there's just something better when you eat them at a fair/festival. I love mine with both ketchup and mustard - so good 😋
I agree. They taste different at a fair.
Yes so much better
Me too
Definitely both mustard and ketchup at the same time for me.
Fried Oreos are the festival/fair food that can’t be beat
I grew up in the west with "corn dog sauce" being a mix of ketchup and mustard, so your double dip is the way to go!
I love this family! It’s so nice to see a wholesome family who truly enjoys being around each other.

It is so fun seeing your family try new things. I appreciate seeing the NZ version too.
My grandma made them from scratch but I buy frozen because I usually only eat one or two. She had 7 kids
I love savory cornbread with cheese and jalapeño peppers
I had the pleasure of visiting NZ 8 years ago. Such a lovely people and place. Enjoy your channel!

4:44 helpful kitchen safety tip:
keep pot handles turned toward the BACK of the stove. this reduces the chance of bumping into it and knocking a pot of hot water or oil all over yourself or someone else.
My first thought.
Same here. I’m cringing every time they get near that handle.
Thank you for mentioning this! My mom taught me this from a young age, and I was cringing at how fast they were moving near that hot oil.
Yum!
The ketchup and mustard combo is my favorite. Glad you enjoyed them. They looked fantastic! Great video and take care!

This is amazing. I’ve never once made a corn dog, Yet I’ve lost count on how many I’ve eaten throughout my life.
I usually just get mine from Quick-Trip (Gas station/fuel mart)
Or frozen from a grocery store.
I personally don’t like mustard, so it’s Ketchup for me.
Unless I get the “pancake + sausage” corn dogs then it’s maple syrup 👌
Quick Trip is the bomb diggity. Try ranch and ketchup. My daughter got me on it and it is amazing
I love the pancake and sausage breakfast corn dogs, especially the ones with blueberry pancake!
@@mrs.antihero those are so good

Right I too do not like mustard ( unless mixed with mayo) so ketchup or nothing. Plain is good.
Oh yeah! Mustard on corn dogs is the only way to go. The bite from the mustard melds so we'll with the sweet corn batter. Ketchup tends to make it too sweet, and it over powers the sweetness of the corn batter 😊
Cornmeal is also good cooked like a hot cereal, like porridge. We call it mush. I like mush on a chilly winter day, with a pat of butter added to it.

@@ericholdsworth6611 well hot dogs taste like shit, so ketchup, mustard, sour kraut, onions, are all good to me.

Whataburger spicy ketchup all the way.
Your sooooo right! A corn dog at a county or state fair always seems to taste better. Corn dog in one hand and an elephant ear in the other! 😀😀😀😁😁

Footlong corn dogs next and maybe cheese on a stick covered with the same corn batter
I wonder if they've ever made Frito Pies. Us Texans know that they're great for walking around with. Makes me want to send them Fritos and Wolf Chili.

I really enjoy watching your videos. As an American we take many of these things on your videos for granted. I appreciate your attitude and open mindedness. I love corn dogs. My love of the corn dog centers on the type of frank and the type of breading that is used. The condiments are only used if the corn dog can't support itself. I myself prefer no condiments. I think mustard is way overrated. I understand that's just my opinion. To each his own taste. I have enjoyed eating corn dogs for over sixty years. Your family is great. Keep up the good work. I'm a weird American, I did my corndog in mayonaise! First time watching, what an amazing family you are!
Great video! I love good corn dogs, with mustard. Never tried ketchup on them. I know some people put ketchup on their hot dogs, but I still prefer mustard on those as well. You did a good job cooking them...👩🏻🍳
I do a 2 / 1 ketchup / mustard mix with my corn dogs!
I use jalapeño mustard on mine. So good!
