Having grown uo in the rust belt and moved ronthe south, i do not miss the salt. The snow yes but not the salt.
My 18yr old Taco had less rust then a 2yr old ram!

    Planned obsolescence!
But, how dare you take money away from a good salesperson at the dealership on a new car! Lmao

If Oregon does anything right at all, it's using red lava rock on icy roads in winter. Salt on public roadways is prohibited. It's still used in private parking lots but it's nothing like when I lived in Colorado lol

I just replaced a brake line on a rust free olds bravada, only spot that was bad was the 3 plastic clips that hold the rear brake line. I don't run an engine cover , because of critters. Why give them a protected spot to hang out.
Pretty sure peak reliability was achieved in pre 2004 cars.
Now low tension rings , and oil consumption that would never have been accepted in the past are common. Efficiency has nothing to do with it. That is a design choice that will reduce the lifespan of the engine, and it can be blamed on user error.

so no plastic cover thingies, and a good wash often, that might help against the salt rust?

99% of the time yes. If you want to take it further get a can of Fluid Film or equivalent to coat the underside of your vehicle once or twice a year.

    OR….
Listen to your environment and exist some places more sustainable.
Because it’s not a problem with the vehicle.
    It’s the environment you chose.
Although most people in America don’t choose where to live.
They allow their parents and or family to dictate that

This seems highly random and almost schizophrenic. It's because they salt the roads. If they stopped salting the roads the cars wouldn't rust.

Least we have no tornadoes or poisonous stuff in Michigan. Can’t prevent those. Can prevent rust by using something better on the roads or build smarter vehicles
