The Turtles tap into their inner-Jesus as they run the gauntlet on top of water against hordes of Pizza Monsters and rematches against bosses we just blew up.
A turtle haiku:

The "Ultra Games" subsidiary was Konami's way to bypass Nintendo's five-game-per-year limit they had back then.

My favorite TMNT games are Turtles in Time, the arcade game, and the TMNT games based off of the 2003 show. Those were pretty cool.

I still have the one for the gamecube. It's also for the PS2 and Xbox Original but I had the Gamecube version.
I'm probably stating the obvious here, but I absolutely love the fact that the turtles are so happy and upbeat in these games no matter what shit they get dragged into. Like they're unaffected by every danger they come across. Idk, I just find that hilarious.
I've always had a soft spot for this game, but two things always bugged the crap out of me...
1) Why do all the bosses explode?
2) Why isn't Bebop in this?
Besides that, it's definitely a must-have title for any TMNT fan who owns a Genesis.
My favorites were Tutrles 2 (NES), Turtles in Time (SNES) and recently, I actually enjoyed Re-Shelled. My cousin got me into Turtles 3 on NES. Also, Rocksteady's battle pattern reminds me of the version of him from the original Turtles arcade game.

I remember one of the Turtles game on the Gamecube. I think it was called "Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus" and I had a lot of fun with it. That's a Turtles game I hope you guys tackle in the future.
I remember the only reason I bought that game was because the arcade game was an unlockable. But I could never find out how and it aggravated the hell out of me.
My favorite TMNT game is the one based on the 2003 animated series for the PS2. 60 frame goodness and a great co op experience best on the best animated adaptation of TMNT.

The Battletoads DOES have the ability to shapeshift their bodies into a wide variety of cartoony objects of death, so I wouldn't rule the fight entirely in the turtles' favor.
To answer both questions.... Favorite TMNT game would have to be TMNT 3: The Manhattan Project for NES, with SNES Turtles in Time being a very close second. As for Baxter Stockman, he was in the original TMNT Arcade game, but he used the same strategy as here (mouser deployment). Baxter the Fly was added to the NES port of the Arcade game, replacing the Rocksteady / Bebop dual fight.
The reason Konami used the Ultra Games brand was to get around Nintendo's old policy of publishers only being allowed to release so many games per year. While that may sound like a terrible policy, and it is, it was an attempt to regulate the flow of games coming out so there wouldn't be another Video Game Crash, as one of the principal reasons why the Crash happened was because there was no publisher control, and as a result, the market became saturated with games, mostly cobbled together pieces of shit made by hack developers nobody heard about. Kinda like Steam's non-existent quality control, actually.
To answer Johnny, Turtles in time was the one I would end up going back to whenever I could, which wasn't often admittedly [rentals being harder to find than I'd have liked at the time.]

I remember the arcade game so much. Stockman was the boss of the sewer level, but that was the third level.
If I remember correctly? Each standard attacks deals 1 point of damage with the finished combo deals addition 2 points of damage. Jump kicks deals 2 points of damage and special attacks deal 3 points of damage? And I remember reading up that the turtles, do have an additional effects after reaching certain points of health...but I might have read it wrong on the Wiki.

This is my first and only TMNT game so far. I always knew who they were but wasn't properly introduced until the 2012 show. Then I watched your review of Turtles in Time and Hyperstone Heist and since I have a Mega Drive I had one option, and I think it's a damn good option. I grew up on Streets of Rage so I have my favourite beat em up in SoR2, but this is still a cracking game. Edit: However! I hate the Gauntlet. There should be Metalhead instead of Leatherhead, Bebop instead of Rocksteady, and Slash (or Tokka and Rahzar) instead of Tatsu. It was the perfect chance to include the left-out bosses, but they went for recolours. Not terrible, just a bit boring
The animation is much smoother than turtles in time
Since you guys mentioned it, Saw is apparently getting another movie either later this year or next year. I am happy because I like the saw films and I need a new one to forget the disaster that was Saw VII or 3-D
I'd have to say my favorite Turtles game is TMNT II: The Arcade Game for the NES.

Aside from Turtles in Time and this one, I think the first 2003 game is VERY underrated. (PS2, GCN, XBOX & GBA)
Especially the 2D Version, seeing as how short it can be. The 3D Version 'cause of the rockin' tunes!

I unfortunately have no real memory of playing any TMNT games. I had the DS TMNT game based on the Cgi movie, but that game was boring as fuuuuuck. I also remember playing a demo of a PS2 game. Leo yelled "Slice and Dice!" a lot.

The reason Konami went by Ultra Games was because of a loophole. Nintendo had a policy where 1 company can only make a certain number of games a year, so Konami went by a different name for a few games to get by this and make more. At least , hats what i heard.

Ultra games was meant as a work around with nintendo's 5 games a year limit. In the nes era, a company wasn't allowed to product more than 5 games a year for the NES. Especially, if they want the nintendo seal of quality. Nintendo at the time just didn't want people to rush products in exchange of a truely bad game. HOWEVER, these extra companies were literally made as a workaround. LJN is actually a prime example of having another company release the game in order to bypass the 5 games a year limit.

Good tmnt games are tmnt on game cube the first ones called tmnt the second ones tmnt battle nexus and the third ones called tmnt mutant nightmare. All pretty good coop games too. But the best ones the first game. All based of 2003 turtles
I think Death Battle had a Leonardo vs Zitz episode, and Leo won. So if it was all characters from TMNT and Battletoads, I'd say the Turtles would win hands down.

Konami made Ultra Games because Nintendo had a rule where a publisher wasn't allowed to release more than a certain number of games each year to make sure that companies didn't flush out a lot of shit that doesn't work.
Companies went under multiple names because Nintendo had a limit to how many games a company could release in a year to ensure quality

Reason for the "Ultra Games" moniker for Konami was to get around Nintendo's 5 game limit for a company during the time. So Konami made a dummy company so they could release more games....how times have changed.

the only TMNT game I ever played was the smash bros rip off, but I will get Mutants in Manhattan.
I've only played one TMNT game and that's the one based on the 2007 film. It was... ok, from what I remember, though a lot of the combat boiled down to charged combos, especially with Raph.
Also, I now can't hear Tatsu without thinking of the worst character in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Fuck that idiotic coward who is so big headed.
