    When I studied Jaco, in depth. I notice the same thing, No, it's not a bunch of crazy notes..To my shock, it's all rudimental or chord tones..But, his note placement is like no other. on this planet." HE KNEW HIS SHIT".. Thanks for your work...I love this tune...I play parts of it daily..

      Only an ignorant fool would think Jaco is just playing notes.. Anyone with ANY musical knowledge would know everything Jaco did had purpose and was intentional. Its abstract to the untrained ear, but not to people that understand music.

      His genius is in seeming to play two voices together; makes sense for the low voice to emphasize root & chord tones.

      @bezuglich his chord and scale knowledge is super deep which allows him to create incredible phrasing. Not to mention? His touch and creativity.

    It's a beautiful tune and shows Jaco could really interpret Joni's material and add to it.

    One of Mitchell's best songs, lyrics and music. Doesn't get the attention it deserves because it wasn't 'confessional.' Also "Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire" from 'For the Roses.' One of the best 'junkie' songs ever. Would think she never wrote anything but "Blue" for al the hype that gets!!!!!

    Excellent tone and notation! That sound is so great. Love Jaco's famous tone. Just the BEST IMO. I love that 5 tring fretless you have there. That's a Fender, no? I know, Jaco "only needed 4 strings", but I wish he would have recorded and played with a 5 string, as I could imagine him hitting those low C's & B's with that sound of his, & I imagine it would be glorious, though I'm grateful we have plenty of his work out there to enjoy. I imagine he would probably use a high C string, though, more often than a low B if he had a 5 string, but who knows! I know he once had a custom 5 string acoustic. Anyway, good stuff!

      @@MJ98774 For live, I use MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe and Reverb. For studio (like this video), I use Logic Chorus and Fabfilter R2 (but the Logic reverbs are quite good too - GarageBand probably uses the same Chorus and reverbs as Logic).

      @stephenbornemann1778  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@MJ98774 The key thing is the action and how the strings are plucked more than the effects. I've recently changed strings to tapes to get more mids and posted a short comparison video recently - I now prefer them. Soon I'll try some half rounds to see how they are before settling on a set for a while.

    What is your signal chain? Tone is glorious man

    • @stephenbornemann1778
      @stephenbornemann1778  Год назад +5

      Flat wound strings, bridge pickup, action optimised for the mwar fretless sound, mids boosted a bit, touch of chorus, touch of reverb, how and where the string is plucked makes a difference too

    • @stephenbornemann1778
      @stephenbornemann1778  Год назад +3

      Sometimes I also add a delay with an extremely short single repeat which acts as a doubler to big up the sound. Jaco often did something similar with an MXR rack-mounted effect (worth a Google - a plugin emulator is available). I don’t think I used it on this recording though.
