Hi, wonderful job. Fantastic play. Thank you very much and a Happy new Year ❤❤
pure christmas magic. dedicated to mumsy. beauts x
Was going to record only a clip but with the vibe in the room I ended up recording the whole song. Holding the camera with arms stretched up for so long was quite a challenge though! All worth it
Excellent stuff, what a night!
Love this - almost indistinguishable from an upright
Listen to more upright basses
@@kingstonlord8679Sure, not the same. TI market the strings as those that sound most like an upright. From the two flats, one half-wound and one tape-wound I’ve tried, I reckon the TI’s are indeed the most like an upright so far. The shorter scale and solid body of an electric fretless could never fully substitute, whatever the strings are.
I love this sort of stuff
Tolle Intonation! Wundervoll!
desde compas 81 en adelante que genio jaco, !! y en toda la cancion es perfecto los momentos que decide ir a los grabes y a los agudoos, con ese ritmo, QUE BAJISTA DISTINTO!!
I played nickel roundwounds on my 1982 Pedulla Buzz until about two years ago. I switched to tapes just because I like their voice.
What harness is that? looks very comfortable
Señor usted es un genio es impresionante lo que hizo y lo comparte gratis , soy baterísta pero disfruto mucho de este tipo de videos aguante Jaco! Y Joni! ❤ Gracias 🫂

Well it doesn’t get any better than this, very proud to be subscriber 330. I hope more people get your videos in their RUclips feed this morning also. absolutely marvelous playing, thank you so much for this wonderful tribute to Jaco.

Omg such a good girl how did u train her I wish my dog did that?!
@@DaisyXbearsXplays14 Put a treat on the floor quite far away and every time she immediately moves towards it pick it up and start again with her sitting down. Eventually she will pause just a few seconds after putting the treat down, at which point you pick it up and give it to her straight away with lots of praise. Then work on lengthening the pause and then adding the second with the move and finally the third. It might take weeks or months. Good luck

Ok - Jaco was not on the studio recording of this tune, so what live record is this? I'd love to hear the whole thing.
Shadows and Light soundtrack and video are available
One of Mitchell's best songs, lyrics and music. Doesn't get the attention it deserves because it wasn't 'confessional.' Also "Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire" from 'For the Roses.' One of the best 'junkie' songs ever. Would think she never wrote anything but "Blue" for al the hype that gets!!!!!
Thanks Stephen
I have no evidence but being around Jaco & Joni were bumping uglies for a time
What a lovely tone!
Beautiful
men of steel
Good job man
Love your sound....I know "the sound is in your hands" and you have that "mwah" down, but can you share what effects you use in your signal chain (if any)...chorus, delay, compression? And what brands of gear you use? Thanks! Excellent job!
Thanks. Added details in description.
@@stephenbornemann1778 Hey Stephen, thanks. Sorry to be a PITA...can you tell me what brand(s) of chorus/delay you use? Im getting ready to make a purchase, your tone is amazing. TY
@@MJ98774 For live, I use MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe and Reverb. For studio (like this video), I use Logic Chorus and Fabfilter R2 (but the Logic reverbs are quite good too - GarageBand probably uses the same Chorus and reverbs as Logic).
@@MJ98774 The key thing is the action and how the strings are plucked more than the effects. I've recently changed strings to tapes to get more mids and posted a short comparison video recently - I now prefer them. Soon I'll try some half rounds to see how they are before settling on a set for a while.
@@stephenbornemann1778 Thanks for the detailed post. Screenshotted and saved. Will watch that comparison video as well. Great playing and explanation.
Amazing cords and harmonies ❤
Jaco P used roundwounds. He had varnished his fretboard with Epoxy boat varnish to prevent too much damage of the "fret"board.I also prefer the sound of roundwounds on a fretless bass. The Sire fretless basses do have some kind of Varnish protection,so roundwounds would not be a big problem on these instruments.A softer touch a la Gary Willis is recommendable.I struggle with the softer touch so i might install a ramp to get used to this softer touch technique.Nice playing by the way.👌👌
Thanks for the comment. We seem to be in a minority. However, I've recently switched to La Bella While Nylon Gold light gauge and love the tone as well as the protection of the fingerboard. Best of both worlds really. Will post a comparison soon.
@@stephenbornemann1778 A comparison of the 2 types of strings would be interesting Stephen.Meanwhile i will research the Labella strings you mentioned.Good luck.
@@stephenbornemann1778 I have the LaBellas you mentioned on my fretless V7. They are nice, if not a touch noodly.
@@prestachuck2867 Agreed
Recently I transformed a bass of mine to fretless ... the luthier told me "never use rounds on it , it will hurt the wood".
Sure. You’ll see on previous threads, it’s all about how gently one plays. Gary Willis is a top player who does this and his instruments last for years. He told me this on a live Q&A on SBL and it surprised me too. He probably has the luxury of getting them serviced regularly though. It was an experiment. I am now trying La Bella While Nylon Tape Gold light gauge and am getting a tone more like Gary Willis that way. I plan to post a video on those strings soon. I’m super impressed with them so far.
@@stephenbornemann1778 Didn't know that Gary Willis use rounds! Yes maybe its about technique too , and also to try playing more soft than usual. Imho flats fit the most , though nylon string would be nice too ! I'd like to see a vid ! cheers
@@johnkostelidis8163 Flats are very dark - perfect if all one wants is the fundamental low end. The Gold tapes have way more mwah in the mid-range, which I like
this is sounding huge and spacious! nicely done
Thanks man! Appreciate it
Sounds awesome! What strings are you using?
D'Addario Chrome flats on this. Very dark. Trying La Bella Gold Tapes right now and getting way more mids like Gary Willis
Great technique and tone!
👍👍👍
So beautiful...!
That's killing your fretboard softly
I had to try it to see if it got closer to the Gary Willis sound. I confess, I’ve gone back to flats, boosting the high mids. The benefit of using round-wounds isn’t quite worth it on my bass.
@@stephenbornemann1778 you can always try nickel flats for that slightly brighter tone with more attack
@@prodtfm Am using La Bella White Nylon Gold Tapes Light Gauge right now and am very happy with them. Will try D’Addarrio half rounds too soon to compare. I understand these are brighter than flats. Please let me know if the nickel flats are as bright or brighter than these two alternatives
@@stephenbornemann1778from my understanding and experience nickel as a tone metal is a lot brighter than steel. i believe the half rounds are bright, but the nickel flats will be brighter. not only that but nickel is a lot softer than steel so it will also be a lot safer on your fret board. I have no experience with nylon bass strings however from my understanding they are “bright” since they are just steel roundwounds covered with nylon. however hypothetically nickel or cobalt will be the brightest flatwound
@@prodtfm Thanks. After search on the web, I suspect TI Jazz Flatwound is the only option worth considering. Is that correct?
Nice Job
Wow, nicely played
Fretless bass is really beautiful.....👍
Stellar...

This song touches the heart so deeply.. The bass line is masterful. Everything about this song is beautiful. You played it beautifully, tone, touch, time, and talent. Thank-you for sharing.
Thanks. I remember the first time I heard this. It still brings a tear to my eye.
Great job Stephan👍🏼thanks for sharing with us!I saw &met Jaco@my HS in’72 when he was playing with Wayne Cochran &CC Riders.Still resonates with me to this Day☀️
Excellent tone and notation! That sound is so great. Love Jaco's famous tone. Just the BEST IMO. I love that 5 tring fretless you have there. That's a Fender, no? I know, Jaco "only needed 4 strings", but I wish he would have recorded and played with a 5 string, as I could imagine him hitting those low C's & B's with that sound of his, & I imagine it would be glorious, though I'm grateful we have plenty of his work out there to enjoy. I imagine he would probably use a high C string, though, more often than a low B if he had a 5 string, but who knows! I know he once had a custom 5 string acoustic. Anyway, good stuff!
Thanks. It's a Sire Marcus Miller v7 alder body - and use the low B string for other tunes
