I don't know where it is exactly and the old guy was so worried about getting out of here alive he didn't tell me the main thing is. The military aborted the launch so when you do find the rocket, you'll have to get up to the control room and launch it yourself. He said something about a Lambda team needing the satellite in orbit if we were ever gonna clean up this mess.
Funnily enough, later the satellite won't get mentioned. Nor how a satellite is gonna help closing down the portals between Xen and Earth, especially if Nihilanth was sending alien after alien on purpose.
In my opinion, On A Rail is the most creepiest chapter in Half Life 1 since it has several creepy voices with unknown origin, tight spaces and also dark corridors and those things caused such perfection for a dark-themed chapter like it.
For me its the level with the underwater creatures. It makes my heart jump thinking about falling into the water not knowing where those things are and finding the ladder with that hyper sensitive controls after you fell down! Nightmare fuel!

Man, I'd been breezing through this chapter just fine, but 16:50 is absolutely ridiculous to figure out on your first playthrough. I'd been looking for buttons and levers all over the place, and you're telling me I could just... PRESS E ON THE BLAST DOOR? There's absolutely nothing indicating I could just open that thing with my bare hands, terrible. haha
This chapter is such a pain in the neck. I thought it was too long, gimmicky, and generally frustrating. This is on par for Water Hazard in HL2 for the worst levels in the series, IMO.

I love how you can actually beat this chapter faster if you just do it entirely on foot. And I guess it's nice that that's the case because if you make Power Up barely a whole map long you need to do a bit of it on foot.
Scariest and worst chapter. The ambiance is very fitting tho, since you are at a very old industrial part of the facility. But imo they made it so much better in Black Mesa even with the creepy ambiance toned down slightly.

Seeing the loading icon should be a hint you’re going in the right direction, that’s how I figured it out 22 years ago. Wandering forever than hit a loading screen was a relief.
Spent two hours trying to navigate this area without a minecart because I couldn't get it to work then I realize it's just e to enter the controls its actually a easy and fun mission

I have JUST finished this chapter and Im not a fan of it because its a bit long with obnoxious enemy placements (I mean its not like "OH MY GOD THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING", but more of a "uugghh pls just be over this is getting repetitive") but thats not to say I didn't enjoy it. Had some nice level design and that rocket scene is awesome! But it isn't Half-Life's finest point.

I haven't played this game but is there a reason why he is being so cautious instead of just running and gunning? He doesn't take too much damage when shot but he seems to not want to take any damage in the playthrough. Not sure if there is an in-game reason though.
Well he's playing the chapter the intended way since the level is surrounded by electrified rails and touching them would shock damage you. But if you are careful enough to not touch them, then you would be able to complete the entire chapter on foot.

This chapter was going better than I thought it would. But then i got a chair stuck onto the rail and it blocked the tram from going forward. Then the tram despawned and I had to go a few saves back.
Blackmesa logistics department. We need trams with system that allows switching monorail in order to turn, how we achieve that ? Some Guy: Lets make panel on trams dashoard with buttons that will switch rail. Freeman: Make signs with arrows, you shoot it, it switches.
Yeah, It's my favorite too. When you play for the first time, the slower pace and the ambience of this place really helps the oppressive atmosphere to sink in. For me this was the essential part of enjoyment in Half-Life that it had those longer and slower moments.

What was the point of those laser trip wire turrets at 26:19 ? You were barely able to see them in this video but why would the game set those up if there’s nothing worth stopping for?

@Firesmash600 I know that this is a very late response, but I found a solution. The cart was stopping for me when I had the gate up. If you put the gate back down, the cart will phase through it for some reason(?). I’m still confused, but it worked lol.
Holy christ, i cannot jump on that moving metal block at the end, goordon just keeps moving it around and i cant get past the laser detonated tnt to get to the last door.
I Absolutely hated this chapter more than anything. It was way to long, and of course being stuck on a rail is no fun at all. Usually its fast paced, action non-stop, but with this its just a few enemies, or a lot of enemies trying to kill you. it is way too restrained in my opinion, because for most of it you are stuck on a train. It also brought a bunch of confusion, because the part where you had to shoot the sign thing to turn the rails was the last thing in my mind. Overall, my least favorite HL1 Chapter.
So aparentelly i went through it all, in vr, with no guide, only to get stuck because i didnt think i needed to go back after launching the sattelite... Bruh

the door button looks exactly like another useless prop, I had to noclip through the entire facility pressing "E" to find it.

I enjoyed it, too. The rocket launch with the song Drums and Riffs playing afterwards is such a cool part.

@Seekeroftruth806 Just go to the console by pressing the ` key type in "sv_cheats 1" and then type "noclip" and then just fly outside and then use noclip again to get down
