  • While traveling throughout Tehran for MUNCHIES Guide to Tehran, Gelareh Kiazand was lucky enough to sit down with the Bahmaie family to experience a home cooked meal in Tehran. During the meal, the Bahmaie family shows us what goes into making two classic Persian dishes, ghormeh sabzi and shirin polo.

      The Republican side of America which I am a supporter of, does not get along with the islamic republic system in Iran for all its good reasons. It has nothing to do with the people, and has everything to do with the devil heads who are hiding in the religious uniforms. It's all about that.

    • @pedddler
      @pedddler 4 года назад

      @Eyre Borne Without the politicians, there'll be no ordinary life for the regular people to live in. Every country or even small tribes have certain rules and laws that have been set by the politicians of those countries and tribes that the ordinary civilians follow. Some countries like the U.S have better laws and regulations than the religious clerics in Iran who force their people to follow sharia laws for example. But politicians are the absolute must of a functioning society. And it's been like this since the dawn of the first human civilizations going back thousands of years ago.

      @@pedddler I watched a television documentary about a couple's road trip with their two young daughters across Europe and much of Asia. They recorded it on reel-to-reel tape. I was astonished to see how the women in the streets of Tehran were wearing mini, miniskirts, revealing plunging necklines, heavy Liz Taylor-ish eye makeup, etc. They could have been in New York City at the time. Early 1970's, I think. It made me curious.
      It's eye opening to read back in history a little bit. (It's been a while, so check out the history yourself.) I read that Iran voted in the first democratically elected government in that part of the world. The Brits (their oil company BP), the US (maybe Standard Oil?), and the Dutch (their oil company Shell), with the skilled efforts of Teddy Roosevelt's grandson, managed to foment a coup to overthrow their government and install the Shah of Iran. Which led to the overthrow of the Shah, and the institution of the Ayatollah Homeini, or Sharia (or close to it).
      There is a lot of ill will and mistrust dating back to our involvement in that long time of repression, division, and turmoil. So today's conflict has a backstory.

    • @pedddler
      @pedddler 3 года назад

      @@grovermartin6874 The Shah of Iran was not only not a dictator, but he was a servant to his people and his country.
      This is why Iran under the Pahlavi dynasty between 1925 and 1979 had a giant leap in every category imaginable and had become a good country.
      This is why those achieved successes by Iran made countries like Great Britain, West Germany, France, the Soviet union and the U.S Democrats very nervous, and through the Guadeloupe conference in early 1979, pulled their support from the Shah and in favor of the mullas.
      So 54 years of hard work and great achievements in Iran by the Pahlavi dynasty came to a heart braking end, and darkness in a from of religious dictatorship made its nasty presence felt in that ancient country which still is in power today.

    The crusty part of the rice is the tastiest. In Malay its called kerak. How do you spell it in Farsi?

    brings back good memories of meals with my friend's family when I was a kid. loved the rice from the bottom of the pot. it was a good contrast to the hamburger chain they started in California and did quite well with :)

      Me too. The spoon and fork thing was neat, reminded me of Thais and Filipinos. (I'd go old school and use the fingertips of the right hand for dry dishes and flatbread for wet ones.) :)

    Persians remind me of American Southerners because for all their religiosity, customs, and everything, they do know one thing and that's food. Their rice dishes like tahdig and other casseroles they make are amazing!!! (Also, the lady in the video is really pretty like so many Middle Eastern and Indian women are.) :)

      Robert Corbell Persians are really really secular. Islamic laws are enforced and the Persians have a modest mindset, yet most are very secular and liberal

      Hamza Tahir Absolutely. Behind closed doors, it's quite true and many in spite of the law are still able to find things like secular music, active sex lives both straight and gay, and alcoholic beverages as a number of Iranians have told me as well as people I've known from the UAE and other sharia-ruled nations. Were it not for the revolution as seen from all the old photos, Iran could very well have been like Turkey and Lebanon today treating the Islamic faith the way many Christians in the western world take a more easy approach to theirs and having a very progressive society when compared to Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and other places (including Iran) that hand out executions and whippings for the things I've mentioned. If only more understood that most people in these places would rather think like they do in more open societies.
