The flavors of this dish are sensational! I was a little skeptical at first eating yogurt with eggs, but this is my favorite way to eat eggs now! Definitely a must try!
Etymology of the Yogurt - Yoğurt - "yogurt" began in Turkish, as yoghurt (there go the italics!). The Turkish word itself comes from an Old Turkish root, yog, meaning something like "condense" or "intensify," which is pretty much what happens to milk when you let it curdle into yogurt. Do not believe in culture and cuisine thieves. for example: dolma is turkish word and name of turkish meal , dolma= fill.. what is dolma-des ??:D dolmades , sarmades , lokumades , baklavades, kahvedes :d :D turkish word ( turkish meal name) + -des = greek meal :D Note: Lokum-Turkish Delight (a turkish word, etymology of lokum : a bite size , lokma, lokum, lokmalık ) please do not steal cuisine Greekides :D
Deniz Beycan so so true! Öyle sinirleniyorum ki bizden çaldıklarını kendilerindenmiş gibi “pazarlayınca”. Videodaki gibi aynen Almanyada yoğurdun iyisi Yünan yoğududur diyorlar bitiyor. Deliriyorum sinirlendim yine bak 🤨
pizza or spaghetti italian food but Americans do not claim rights. they produce different types they can produce different varieties but they can not say the origin belong to us. Greeks , claim things that are not theirs. for example : ḥallām حلوم/حلّام it is an arab cheese ( etymology ḥilm حلم = soft ) but Greeks they even claimed it, they also halloumi. Anyone who knows history and etymology must be impartial...Do not take sides as they are Christian. Be objective
The food was there way before the Turks colonized the area, lol, Turkey is a young country with the arrival of the Mongols, whereas Byzantine, the Levant, and Mesopotamia had been around for centuries. The first people to make baklawa were the Assyrians in the land Turkey eventually occupied. Just bcs Israel conquers Palestine, that does not make the food Israeli. Same concept here. Only food that can be considered "Turkish" is the food that was invented after Turkey became a nation state. All the other food is stolen from the places the Ottoman Empire occupied. These are the facts.
I'm a pro at doing poached eggs, have your water to simer and then add a splash of vinegar, you usually just leave the egg alone once you crack the egg in the water. once the whites start to form around the whole egg thats when you can very gently try to scoop underneath and around the egg to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pot. If that happens to be the case anyway. Sometimes theyll float but not float to the top.
Nice to see Çılbır as a BBC recipe. I find the tips quite to the point, but my preference of a Sunday morning Çılbır is somewhat different: - I use 2 to 3 eggs and keep them a bit longer in the water. The yolk needs to be a bit less fluid - it should not completely spill into the mixture. Think of a very, very ripe peach: That is the expected form. - I prefer to follow the "İskender" approach, which involves cutting the toasted bread slices into small pieces (like croutons) and using this as a bedding for the yogurt. If you have Pide, that would be a better choice than toasted bread, of course - speaking of "İskender"! - Fresh dill is not a bad idea at all, but I prefer the following mixture: A teaspoon of Nana mint (also the popular choice in Turkey), a teaspoon of dried stinging nettle seeds (for the grassy smell, alternatives would be dried and ground dandelion or ribwort plantain leaves), a tad bit of oregano and a tad bit of cumin. - Every once in a while, depending on my mood, I roast three teaspoons of sesame additionally for the mixture. More often in winter than in summer. - I could never use that much butter for the chili sauce, but that is my gastritis talking, so nevermind. ^^ - Finally, I drink a cup of fennel-lemon tea along with it. Works like a charm in balancing the stomach and helping digestion. There talks my gastritis again. ^^
Sener S meh, depends. I disagree. As a kashmiri, turkish food is very bland! But for people that grew up on bland food (british cuisine) turkish food can seem very flavorful to them. But in terms of depth of flavour - indian/pak/chinese cuisine is where it is at (my opinion ofc : )
I disagree. Chinese, Indian, Pakistani food and their recipes are overkill of spices. You can't taste the flavour of meat and vegetables most of the time. They use too much spices and after few times, you start to dislike the taste of those spices.
Sener S: And is that why you european whites came looking for india so that you could "civilize" them by taking away their spices, & make these populations "suitable for the civilized planet" you were goiung to own?
Poonam Abbi Turks are Asian not europen you clever. North europens are not in india for "civilize". Everybody does know that too. Other than that, you need to take history and geography classes before you blame Turks for taking away indians culture and all that thing.

I really expected a timid bite at the end, but that was savage😄
Nothing wrong with it, that's just how you eat Turkish food
That's how Nigella rolls. She's not dainty, lol. Never has been.
I love her passion while cooking , her ideas , her beautiful face , soul and smile
Absolutely the best breakfast in the world 🥰
Right, I guess I’m making this for breakfast now
Update (for no one in particular): I made this a couple times now and it came out so well! It’s really filling and light. Goes amazing with some crunchy seeded bread.
"A clove of garlic, minced in."
Proceeds to grate garlic.
Grates 1/8 of a clove
A figure of speech.
It's a mincer!! That grater is very fine!!! Works perfect as a mincer if you get it
it doesn't matter, its so tiny that it crush the garlic 🙄
Well what did you want her to do with it?
Would it of been better if she had stuck it in her ear? Bloody wombat!!! 😅
I just made this and it has changed my life! absolutely amazing recipe, 100% recommend!
I love that the video does mot have any music until the end. Feels really peaceful. I cannot stop watching this video i love it so.much and then I make the delicious recipe.
Just rustled up two chulburr (pronounced) poached eggs and used birds-eye chilli flakes and paprika as a suggested replacement. Toasted up some sourdough bread with nutty seeds. A delightful dip into the heavenly mix of egg, oils and yogurt and wow, that hits the spot nicely. Nice touch with the lemon and strained egg. Nigella is the goddess of culinary delights for sure.
We have a little different one in Azerbaijan. You prepare yogurt with garlic in the same way and you add cooked egg in butter on top.
aysen hesenli ... but isn't that what she made here?
Alexandra Wimmer we fry egg in pan with oil not poach. that is different
Alexandra Wimmer but this one seems healthy
@@aysenhsnv we also do it in Turkey when we don't have enough time or sometimes just love it that way:-) since Azerbaijan is our sibling we have same taste.
why the heck did her ex-husband cheat on this woman? You lost son
It was the garlic.
Clearly.
Ouch.
@@NassifKazan LOL
She Flirts With Everything😀🍒😂
Ya, i would love to know too..
Nigella is the real deal, she's enchanting, engaging, timelessly elegant...
As a turkish, your recipe is one of the best! I' ll try it.
I wish I could eat as much as she does and still look good.
I just tried it and it was really good. 10/10 doing it again.
Couldn’t agree a word less when Nigella said it’s the best breakfast in the world.
It’s simply easy dish to make yet so delicious as seen in Nigella’s expression when she took bite from the toast😋
I couldn’t laugh louder enough when watching this beautifully made yet so elegant video because, even though it’s a Turkish dish, perhaps the only ingredient was used was “Turkish room temperature “… I loved it, thanks for the dish Nigella 👍👍👍
I saw her make this about 10 years ago and it's one of my favourite breakfast. Goes really well with a cup of coffee.
This lady is unbelievably cute 🥰
It's not "Greek yogurt", it's Turkish, even the word "yogurt" byself is Turkish..
Never try to explain... They put pineapple on pizza!
the origin of greek yogurt is greece. not turkey. happy to clear that up for you.
@Düşünmekaybolursun yeah I think you got that mixed up. see, the origin of toyota isn't germany, is it? its japan. even though the modern car was invented in germany. its the same for yogurt.
have a nice day. :)
@@supervoid5749 it's not that serious is it ?
@@chuckychuck8318 exactly. but i’m not being serious about it. just a lil discussion.
Nothing like a British accent, an impeccable melody ❤️❤️❤️
The flavors of this dish are sensational! I was a little skeptical at first eating yogurt with eggs, but this is my favorite way to eat eggs now! Definitely a must try!
"anything with yogurt is perfect" a yörük guy from turkey...
I just had a foodgasm when the yellow part of the egg exploded. That looks divinely delicious
I always had a crush on Nigella
As you explained that yogurt is of Turkish origin, do you know why the owner of Chobani advertise their product as Greek yogurt?
pizza or spaghetti italian food but Americans do not claim rights. they produce different types they can produce different varieties but they can not say the origin belong to us. Greeks , claim things that are not theirs. for example : ḥallām حلوم/حلّام
it is an arab cheese ( etymology ḥilm حلم = soft ) but Greeks they even claimed it, they also halloumi. Anyone who knows history and etymology must be impartial...Do not take sides as they are Christian. Be objective
He is a businessman, Greek yogurt is how strained yogurt is called in US.
This recipe is called “çılbır”
I like çılbır. It's really delicious in my opinion.
And is not for breakfast but for a light lunch/dinner (especially on a heated summer day)
😁😁😁
aynen çılbır o ben bile yaptım bi kaç kez
Ben de diyorum hangi yemek bu. Bizdeki gibi yapmadı ama çılbırı
I love to watch nigella's cooking. I find some sort of soulful feel to her cooking.
My condolences Nigella and family
This lady was a queen in a previous life
I thought Nigella was seducing me but then I saw that yolk burst at the end and now I'm out here being seduced by an egg
🤣🤣
Tried cooking this just this morning and it was divine! 😊
Made this dish today.
Wow, it was delicious.
Looked good, and the taste matched the good looks!
Thanks BBC and Nigella
I tried this recipe today and it was amazing! loved how yogurt's softness merges with the egg yolk. Bread was the best part. Thank you!
Why does everything have to be perfect: the food, her looks & her English ?
Nice to see Çılbır as a BBC recipe. I find the tips quite to the point, but my preference of a Sunday morning Çılbır is somewhat different:
- I use 2 to 3 eggs and keep them a bit longer in the water.
- Finally, I drink a cup of fennel-lemon tea along with it. Works like a charm in balancing the stomach and helping digestion. There talks my gastritis again. ^^
2-3 minutes in boiling water is enough. More than that misses the point of the dish.
Turkish food and recipes are one of the best in the world.
Poonam Abbi are you really calling a Turk as european white? Wow! !
Poonam Abbi Turks are Asian not europen you clever. North europens are not in india for "civilize". Everybody does know that too. Other than that, you need to take history and geography classes before you blame Turks for taking away indians culture and all that thing.
Love her! She has to be the best cook on TV and I bet a supper cool person to know
I found her very appealing. Her descriptions are spot on and her clarity and confidence is the highlight of her show.
OMG, this recipe is amazingly good. Thank you for sharing, I will definitely continue to make this, as it is now one of my favorites. Goes really nice with dark pumpernickel bread.
This is the first video I ever watched of her and she seemed amazing. Her way of talking was in my opinion very entertaining, didn't find it seductive at all. I was surprised to see that the top comment said that people say she talks that way. Nigella was definitely convincing enough to make me want to actually prepare this dish, which rarely happens with the first recipe I watch from the presenter :) Will definitely give this dish a try.
😍😍😍😍 Nigella never ceases to amaze me. Her recipes are sooooo delicious... She just gets more beautiful with age... And that voice....
such an elegant dish, looks absolutely delectable. She is also just so beautiful and pleasant to watch.
Wow never have I ever imagined that I would one day see Nigella cook "Çılbır", this feels like a parallel universe video 😊✨ I'm sure she created wonders. Happy you enjoyed it, poached eggs on yogurt is one of my favorite meals ❤️
birdsmeet ben de kendi kendime diyorum yoo biz böyle yapmıyoruz ki yumurtayı diye 😅😂 çılbır tabii yaa ama baya bir elegant hali baya 😁😁

Just to say, a similar recipe for eggs with white brine cheese and youghurt exists in Bulgaria, called "eggs from Panagyurishte" (yes, I agree, harder to pronounce than Turkish eggs). Serves to show that this cuisine exists throughout the Balkans. :)
bloom YAAAAAAS!! My mom makes it all the time! I quite like it better than this dish (Im bulgarian turkish), but thats because the yoghurt in bulgaria makes everything priceless!!
I made this for a lady and all I want to say is THANK YOU.
I love the way shes talking
