Shame the 4th book , the Book of Marrim never made it... would have loved to have read that story. It's a fantastic series/world that Cyan created and I still love it to this day.

I own, like five copies of this damn game and I don’t regret getting any one of them. Easily one of my favorites. Heck, im even considering using this in my paper regarding planning and strategy in Video Games. Ones that make you think.
Well the game was a good few years old when I started playing it at 9 years old, I eventually went back and completed it at 21 which is why I often joke "it took me 12 years to complete myst". I thought there would be nothing that would really bring me back to play it again (I still haven't completed riven etc) but this is well worth it, Myst has never looked as good as it does in this version - I just completed the game again. Not to mention Cyan are good people so it's available on many platforms including GOG that has 0 DRM. Congrats Cyan for being wildly successful and still true to the indie cause.

Myst was the reason I first bought a CD-ROM player in 1994. I couldn't believe how immersive the visuals and especially the music. It was like watching and starring in a movie. I did have to wait often for data to be downloaded from the CD as I went, but it taken ruin the experience.
The Island has never looked grander! I still don't know what to make of the new CGI Atrus though lol. Feels strange hearing his voice but seeing the CGI model. I still remember fondly how well Rand did with his performance in the original game releases with the live motion capture! He always seemed to underestimate his skills acting in my opinion. I can't wait to see this how good this looks on xbox with the projector!

I thought you meant in miniature form. the other person is thinking life size. For miniatures, try Black Magic Crafts, NerdForge, there are a bunch who build terrain sometimes for gaming purposes. Real Terrain Hobbies I think is one... If you find one you'll find more. It would be cool to have a miniature Myst Island, and all the other ages. Yes I've Thought of it in mini, it would be so fun

Where would we look for progress updates on the Riven remake? I only recently just found out that Cyan is actually been working with the Starry Expanse project to finish that up but that announcement was made like two years ago and I'm just now finding out about it. I couldn't find anything about it on Cyan's Web page and Rand himself said he'd keep is informed in that announcement 2 years ago and I really just don't know where to look to keep myself up to date on what's going on with that.
Question: how are you supposed to figure out the Selenic Age tram puzzle if you haven't visited the Mechanical Age first? Or if you forgot what the sounds correspond to. All the other puzzles are self-contained in their own ages, it's the only puzzle you can't figure out on it's own, and once you link to the Selenic Age you are stuck, you have no way to return to gather hints about it; it's a poorly designed puzzle.
The first time I solved it I made a "Zork" map. The second time I (and I still don't believe it) brute forced it using maze solution strategies. Never picked up on the association from the Mechanical Age.
The world is not a chessboard game , this idea of a chessboard game keep us blind to the truth. The real game here is a puzzle to be solved. The initiatory path. But when the reality that hold the puzzle and the chessboard game is treathen what would you do ?
In almost 30 years you released this game on about 20 alive, dead or failed (for Christ sake, 3DO?) platforms, and not even once released it for Linux. Unreal 4 has Linux support, Valve sent you the Steam Deck running Linux...how about now? What's the excuse now?

What a game. Waited until 2024 to play it in VR, have wanted to for decades. Was incredible, now I'm in Riven. I can see how this was so well loved.

The puzzle teaches you the directions: The first few times a sound plays, there is only one direction you can go
