  • This little experiment is to see if I can build a gray water filtering system. With a few bins, rock, & simple plumbing I think I have come up with something that works.

Cool, was looking for build plans for a nice murder hornet drinking fountain. This seems to do the job nicely.

Whenever I get time to put my next video together I have to fix a small design flaw. Otherwise it gets the job done.

I didn't know sediment filtering could be scaled down like that, pretty cool. Nice little project!

A option or alternative to digging holes is just getting the dirt loose and using a shop vac if power is applicable

I was digging a hole for a mailbox. And the sand kept falling back in and my light bulb recieved power! Get the shopvac im sick of this shit!

Do you have to put any fabric or membrane between layers? What stops the sand from filtering down into the larger aggregate over time?

Nothing, system is small I just dump and clean.

Nice set up! I have seen other videos like yours, but on the County's website, a permit to live in a RV and discharge grey water is required. So I am confused, I see a bunch of people doing it, but no talk of a permit. Have you had any issues with the county? I also own some property in AZ, so before I make the big leap, I wanted some insight on your personal experience, if any with permits, also for other RUclipsrs that are wondering as well. Thanks!

Yes a permit is required to discharge. Just print the form for what you are discharging such as Septic, compost toilet, or gray water. Septics requires an inspection. However gray water rules have changed. Sink water is now considered black water in AZ. So gray water is bath, hand washing only, and can be used on plants only. Without septic all black water must be dumped at a waste water facility (RV) dump. However to get a certificate of occupancy and get a PO box you must have septic installed/inspected. However you need a septic first before any building permits can be granted. Permits are easy to get and are required by the county.

Do you think this can be done without digging? My tiny house will be next to a small garden

As long as you have enough gravity to keep things flowing it can be above ground. I have seen some people make planters out of the filters as the plants add to the filtering process.
