When life was angst free..and people could laugh at themselves and the antics of others without P C Censor collaring you with a charge of " Disrespecting " being arbitrarily levelled
It's a great satire of the folks if the 70s. Rigsby was mockable. There were people like that around and the view of things people had was so different then.
It's strange to think how, back in the 1970s and 1980s, sitcoms were essentially the biggest shows on TV. They really could turn an actor into a household name. So people like Leonard Rossiter and Richard Beckinsale became national treasures. And, of course, Don Warrington. An effortlessly smooth performer.
Richard Beckinsale was wearing a wig he hated for this series of Rising Damp. It was filmed around the same time he had a crewcut playing Godber in Porridge. The producers thought it made him look more like a student of the times.
Guys didn't use curlers, even then. It's a comedy. There's no episode with Rigsby "poking a stripper with a stick of celery". It's only in the script for comic effect.
The mention of celery is a in joke.. you notice a blue & white scarf in the background.. the famous CFC football club.. Football chant..and it goes like this.. If she don’t come il tickle her bum with a lump of celery, celery, celery..repeat
Yay, love your Rising Damp reactions! I don't think men wearing curlers and having long hair has ever really been socially acceptable. That's why Rigsby remarked about the men outside the Blue Ram making bets on which sex Alan was, and saying that "this place is getting more like a ladies' hairdressers every day". lol I agree about wanting an episode where Rigsby pokes the stripper with a stick of celery, just thinking about that is hilarious! 😂
It’s interesting. Rigsbys racism only makes his failures so much funnier. Phillip oozes class and it drives Rigsby nuts. Phillip of course knows this. Stuff like this, or blazing saddles could not be made today..yet everyone, black and white, who watches it loves it and laughs their asses off…

The guy playing Charles, also appeared in classic Doctor Who…one of my favourite episodes, then again, there are no bad ones

Not quite a crewcut but definitely shorter than in RD.
They could not make that show today asits not p.c. but if you lived in england when it was set its spot on.
"I don't see Spooner wearing that tie !" Great observation Megan !👍
😂 Thanks!
Corsaaschge (corsage) is the Queen's/King's English pronunciation most Brits use wherever they live, generally speaking. So you are correct.
Rigsby's showing his ignorance.
Glad you have gone back and done this one, another funny episode!🙂🙂🙂
ooh I have no idea!
From the first reaction until the last one, you can hear when someone is being spilled by the wine. Instead of the other way around.
What about a waltz then?!?!?!? lolol
Keep going love your reactions .loads of episodes to go
Thank you! Will do :)
You are so right about spiders. And as their movements are minimal they are not annoying anyway.
Exactly!
Guys didn't use curlers, even then. It's a comedy.

QUIZ QUESTION: what connects Rising Damp to Stanley Kubrick?
Leonard Rossiter appeared in 2001: a Space Odyssey and Barry Lyndon both directed by Kubrick...is that it?
I love the way Philip is so effortlessly superior to Rigsby.
Same! He is effortlessly superior
Hi Megan i kinda feel sorry for Miss Jones who was so well played by France's that's why this series is endearing. Your right about birthday's.🎂💓🇬🇧
in England we say kill a spider you kill your luck
"If you wish to live and thrive, let a spider run alive"
Yes, corsage, but Rigsby wouldn't know that.
The mention of celery is a in joke.. you notice a blue & white scarf in the background.. the famous CFC football club.. Football chant..and it goes like this.. If she don’t come il tickle her bum with a lump of celery, celery, celery..repeat

This is ep 3, not 2.
Is it? On google is says it’s episode 2. It’s so confusing!
@@MeganRuth It may be regarding the first ep as a pilot & e2 as e1, e3 as e2 etc.
Enjoy the holidays 😃😃😃
Thank you! 😊
Is that an everlasting glass of rose😁😍
Your pronunciation of corsage is correct. Rigsby is showing his ignorance.
ahh ok! Thanks! :)

Fairplay Megan but if black's a shade not a colour...what's it a shade of?
...er... black? 😅
You look extra nice when you've had a glass or two😊
😂 thanks!
🎉
It is corsage ,a deliberate mistake ❤.
ah thank you!
It looks like you are drinking Dentist's mouth wash.
I am always amazed how literal Americans take British comedy. Regarding the comment about the celery poking the stripper.
It always amazed me why so many men (maybe Rigsby) lusted after Miss Jones. Ordinary looking, and completely aloof.
THERES A GR EAT. SERIES SIMILAR TO THIS CALLED LOVE THY NEIGHBOR, VERY FUNNY,😊
