3:50 as someone who has made games and deals with 3D assets on a git repository (a place where the current build of the game is stored) abstraction is A VERY REALL THING that can happen to a game asset. An abstracted data is the cause of a Bit Shift Error and as a game dev you gotta isolate and quarantine that data FAST. It can cause the whole registry to shift bits if not delta with properly because everything is stored on a git repository as 0s and 1s. I've had it happen before because a single sandwich asset was corrupted and it, In turn, corrupted the whole game.
i literally wrote this whole thing and recorded it a month after ep 2 came out and then procrastinated for 4 months before editing the whole thing in like a week 😭😭😭
3:52 We’ve actually got a sort of explanation from Ragatha in the same episode on what abstraction is. It’s basically when you spiral into madness and completely lose sight and sense of who you are, so your character gets stripped of what humanity and individuality you had and become a mess of code.
Jax is a classic sociopath. A lot of people believe that means something like 'serial killer,' but really it's about someone who doesn't care about others... their lives, their feelings, their pain. To the sociopath others are just props. For bunny man this is shown in his behavior towards NPCs and the circus crew. He just wants to see funny things happen... and he'll make them happen. But in the Circus there are NPCs who legitimately have feelings, and don't think for one second that would stop Jax from hurting them for his own amusement. But the key here is that Jax also enjoys hurting Circus members. Gangle is the most obvious, relentlessly bullied. He's more than willing to do things to Pomni that would injure anyone else, secure in the knowledge that she can't die. Only Zooble seems to escape, partly because they don't go on adventures and partly because Zooble seems willing to kick the shit out of Jax if they get annoyed. He's basically Bugs Bunny without any of the warmth. Bugs reserves his harm to those who are trying to hurt him; Jax wants to make others suffer because it amuses him.
As someone with ASPD (meaning I’d technically be labeled as a ‘sociopath’) I can see this! ASPD usually means that the person with it has low empathy or none at all, feels little to no regret/guilt for actions (and anything felt can usually be due to the negative side effects of actions) has difficulty keeping up with personal relations, & can be prone to harming others either physically or emotionally/mentally due to the lack of empathy affecting the normal “moral compass”. Jax fits these boxes quite well , with him being a character that’s shown to be more on the side of Low empathy (based on his quick sad(?) glance in episode 2’s ending, though its unclear if this is him feeling for kaufmo, which would prove possible empathy , or for himself) and is actively harming others with no care for what it does to them , as he isn’t at any risk of facing repercussions for his actions as its not the real world! I have no clue if it’s intended for him to be like this or if the show will later confirm or debunk these kind of things, but it’s a fun headcanon to have & I love his character for it ! It rules to have a character like him among the cast !

Zooble said to Caine he does not remember what is wrong with her, Zooble saying , "forget it" at the end of their therapy session.

I mean, I don’t even think Zooble counts as an allegory. She uses any pronouns, and her story is about not liking their own body. Zooble is just straight up trans, it’s not even subtext at this point.
Over analyzing stuff is actually so much fun lmao. I love listening to you yap about stuff you have a very fun and engaging way of speaking and before I knew it I had spent 30 minutes listening to an analysis on a show I haven't seen
I feel like each character represents a coping strategy to keep their sanity in their tragic circumstance. While Pomni and Ragatha move towards trying to be kind and build meaningful support, Jax responds by only thinking about his entertainment, as if it really were an inconsequential video game. While Jax is antagonistic, and might seem unnecessarily cruel, one of the very first things he says is that they've been trapped there for YEARS. Pomni's first friend got zapped outta existence on her FIRST adventure so Jax might have not started like this but again this is his desperate means of dealing with their entrapment. This is his way of fighting off abstraction. Note the difference between Jax and Zooble's apathy. Zooble, while struggling, seems more defeated and passive in their despair. Jax, on the other hand, is active in his apathy. I'd suspect he struggles more with the existentialism and thats why he acts out more.
Your whole thing about Jax has aged like a beautiful wine with episode 3. Jax feels like an ideological opposite to what Pomni is being set up to learn in this story. The only thing that matters in this world are the people and your connections with them. Jax doesn't care about connections. Yes he treats the npcs like shit, but he doesn't treat the "real" people any better. Everyone only exists to the extent that they entertain him. While I'm not sure if Jax will be a full-on antagonist, he's definitely going to directly push against the main theme of the narrative.
[Bo En - Money won't Pay] was the creator's first choice for end credits song. Its about how we have to work to not end up in the street (adventure to not abstract), but working isnt worth it if we don't take time to relax (like Zooble IDK), and we shouldn't worry since we have friends to rely on (NOT JAX).
I love this video so much! These are exactly the kinds of things I love to see explored in an analysis video-What are the THEMES? What are the CHARACTER ARCS? How do the characters COMPARE AND CONTRAST each other? What PHILOSOPHIES and IDEAS are featured/referenced? I really appreciate the work you put into the content and presentation of this video. And I absolutely adore your section at the end. You get it! Analysis is a form of appreciation for and a way of interacting with a story! There is no incorrect or pointless analysis in the same way there is no incorrect or pointless fanart! Stories are a give and take between the author and the audience, in which we combine authorial intent with our personal life experiences to form our own interpretation of the story! It literally doesn’t matter if the author intended for meaning to exist in an element of a work because when you find meaning you GIVE it meaning! “It isn’t that deep”? I don’t care! I have a pickaxe and I’m ready to dig! Anyway, you have a new subscriber! I’m so glad I found this video. “Why would you analyze a piece of work in which only a small portion of the whole is completed?” Okay, I’m literally a Deltarune fan so I mean
Oh my god, this is your first analysis video??? Its so high quality, thats IMPRESSIVE!! Honsestly I agree with every single point you made, it all makes sense. Plus loved all the utdr background music :D Excited to see your future works ✨

This was cathartic to watch, idk I just love hearing people talk about TADC in a not annoying way. You clearly just enjoy the hell out of it and have a passion that comes through clearly, nice job!
Happy October 4th! As I wait for the episode to air, I wanna give my thoughts. I really admired this analysis and I'm happy there's still dedicated fans around after content farms ruined TADC's image. I agree with your views, and saw the same interpretation with Jax's view of the world. I personally think his Nihilism is a form of a coping mechanism he started a long while ago, before it made him who he is today. I would really love to see your take on the upcoming episode!
As some other comments have mentioned the teapots is a reference to the Utah teapot. It is still used for testing lighting in a scene. I think the narrative purpose to it is just to remind the viewer that this place isn't real. That this story take place in a digital space with digital characters who may or may not be real.
I think Absurdism is a good refutation to the fear of not mattering in time. You matter now because you care about things now, because you give your life meaning in this almost rebellious fight against an indifferent universe. Even though you're saying it to no one, saying "I am a person. I exist. I matter." is enough.
0:32 BIG SHOT spotted. 24:17 Ragatha says that Caine likes to reuse NPCs sometimes. She says this to Pomni to console her while she's still reeling over Gummigoo's death. This hints that Gummigoo will probably come back in a new episode!
just rewathed the entirety of digital circus and MD (murder drones) and i gotta say you nailed this video and perfected it its a shock coming from a small channel like yours in a good way
19:16 It's funny looking at this now with the context that literally all Jax did in the 3rd episode was break the fourth wall, suck up a ghost, and bully Gangle. I'm pretty sure he only has like 3 minutes of screentime in that episode lol (not that I think he won't be the villain in most episodes and I do understand that this was a kinger-centric episode but it's just funny seeing this "He'll murder somebody" now lol)
dude this goes so hard omg im so mad it doesnt have as many views as i thought. also you're really onto smth here!!! goose said at some point (on tumblr i think) that the thing she wants people to take away from the show is that no matter how hopeless or stagnant one's life is, there's still meaning and fulfillment to be found in the people around you and in yourself. at the time of writing this it's like 5 hours til episode 3 drops and i am SO excited to see what that brings to the table btw ahaha
THE BOJACK REFERENCE THOUGH 😭😭😭😭😭 I was just thinking aboutthat very scene last night. "You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around. You turn yourself around... /that's/ what life's about"
I just finished this and OOHHH MYYY GODDD I GENUINELY LOVE THIS. This video might actually be the best ACTUAL analysis of TADC I've seen yet. Despite how admittedly overdrive some of your theories or interpretations of what happens are, your points are perfectly clear and line up really well with what we've seen! INCLUDING with episode 3 now that that's out (in my opinion)!! I feel like there's a severe lack of thematically analytical videos or essays on TADC despite the themes and messages we've been introduced to so far. If I'm not mistaken, somewhat-recently, someone asked Gooseworx (either on tumblr or twitter) what the show's message is, to which she responded to with that *"there's meaning to be found in stagnant life"*- which is not only honestly beautiful imo, but also lines up with and explains a lot about the show. AND it connects with your point about the show's themes of existentialism. I could honestly keep going, but I'm not even sure how I'd word anything. I love how you presented and explained everything, I love your humour style, I love your art in this, and I love how passionate you are about the series and how that's inspired you to make this despite the very small amount of offical content we have right now! If you make another video like this, or a video talking about the other circus members asides from Pomni & Jax, I'D BE DELIGHTED. You'd probably have to wait a little while so you properly *can*, but since you posted this mere days before episode 3 came out, I doubt that'd stop you. (idk where else to put this or how to do so, but I'd be especially interested in seeing you talk about and break down Ragatha & Gangle's characters at some point, since they're my personal favourites LOL) Anyway uhhh. YEAH GREAT VIDEO I LOVED THIS
my personal running theory currently is that akin to the inspiration of I Have No Mouth, all of the humans are going to “die”, with the exception of Pomni. she will willingly remain in the circus with Caine. less stable theorising: Pomni will find out some secret in either episode 7 or 8, at their ends, which will ultimately lead to the abstraction or otherwise functional death of everyone else in the circus. maybe she finds some way to properly die, maybe it’s about the abstracted, maybe it’s the idea that they’re not their original selves and instead brain clones unaware of such a fact and convinced they’re the originals, leading to a crisis upon realising there was never a way out in the first place - or maybe for a lighter note there actually is a way out, and they can take it, but i don’t think it’ll be like that. anyway, Pomni doesn’t break because she’s already come to terms with it or something, leaving her alone with Caine. or she chooses to stay behind while the others go, idk. thinking about it a second time, though… Jax really does seem like the Ted of the group, doesn’t he? Maybe I wouldn’t be super surprised if it was him instead who “killed” everyone… because it seems like he’s already given up hope.
Holy hell, is this your first commentary video? If so, this is amazing for a first time! You speak very concisely and your visual presentation is very appealing :D
stumbled across this expecting it to be from someone popular but your are surprisingly underrated, thanks algorithm! you def earned yourself a subscriber
I think Caine is the opposite of AM from "I haveno mouth and I must scream". AM being a computer who HATES humanoty and keeps them trapped, while Caine LOVES humans who are already trapped. With that perspective, the solution to dealing with AM is ending thelives of the immortal humans he trapped, then I see Jax will try and do thst and needs to be stopped.
In the german dub for episode 1 Jax says right before pushing Gangle in front of the escalator, that it would be out of character if he let her through.
"... is to find meaning in things that might not even necessarily be intentional" In a way, isn't that really the best way to beat nihilism? to decide that things dont need to be *built* with meaning in order for you to find one within it? If you ARE right about the themes, i'd say that line is incredibly fitting
The tea pots is an old meme in 3d animation/programming i cant remember the exact but its essentially one of the first complex objects modeled in 3d history so it essently a "hello world" but for animation instead of programming
i don't understand why people use the bowling ball scene as an example of his awful nature, a truly selfish person would've ran past them and jump into the hole for safety, leaving them to be attacked, but instead he pushed them into safety first, then jumped in, to me at least, it shows that he has moments where he does care at little bit about his "friends" in certain situations, and that those moments are very few and far between
Something interesting, is that while most of the exit doors(including the very first one she sees at the start that vanishes) are red, the one she sees in the distance briefly while flying over the exterior is orange. Perhaps the red ones are the failed tests Caine has been working on, but that orange door was the rea ldeal
Here's mine: Some kind of preservation project gone wrong for humans after societal collapse from a war. And we got to see it happen right in front of us. The characters being *worthy* before joining the circus. Going insane or living in perpetual insanity living long enough.
The tea pots are like a test objact to test graphical things like shaders, lighting, shadows and more. the tea pots are a good objacts for testing becuase of its shape with lots of edges and curves. and refrence to one of the first 3d render.
I loved this video, great analysis! It’s a very comprehensive look at digital circus’ themes, and I feel like I learned a lot about writing watching this vid! I never really realized how all the pieces of pomnis arc fit together so well with the plot, so the breakdown was really enlightening to me! Although I don’t think it’s an over-analysis in the slightest, I think you are too hard on yourself in that regard, and (probably unintentionally) underselling your audiences comprehension of media criticism and analysis. Every time you cut to a joke of the “audience member” being freaked out, I kept thinking, well this isn’t THAT big of a stretch, it feels like a pretty normal analysis of the themes. I know it was supposed to be funny but you should give yourself more credit and have faith in your audience !!!
All the teapots are likely a reference to the Utah teapot witch was one of the first 3d rendered objects.
Oh shoot youre right lol, thats pretty cool
Its also commonly used to test your lightning for your scene, because of its siplicity yet complexity!
Came to the comments to say exactly this!

Jax is definitely better to the circus members than NPC’s
[Bo En - Money won't Pay] was the creator's first choice for end credits song. Its about how we have to work to not end up in the street (adventure to not abstract), but working isnt worth it if we don't take time to relax (like Zooble IDK), and we shouldn't worry since we have friends to rely on (NOT JAX).
Oh wow I love that song, didn't know Goosewerx liked Bo En!
Bro, I LOVE THAT SONG
this is the definition of underrated genuinely. I wish upon you 100K subs lmao 💜💜💜
'The Amazing Digital Circus' is the most interesting re-imagining of 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream' ever conceived.
Oh my god, this is your first analysis video??? Its so high quality, thats IMPRESSIVE!! Honsestly I agree with every single point you made, it all makes sense. Plus loved all the utdr background music :D Excited to see your future works ✨
Them: if your a nerd on the internet you probably already know about this
Me who learned about plot pyramids in 1st year English class but I’m also a nerd on the internet: mh
0:40 …HOW MANY MONTHS?!?!!
Your character design is absolutely adorable!!! Instantly subbed! Can't wait for you to go over episode 3!~ :)
Hearing not so, sou in the middle over jax’s part was such a jumpscare omg, great work though! :3
This was cathartic to watch, idk I just love hearing people talk about TADC in a not annoying way. You clearly just enjoy the hell out of it and have a passion that comes through clearly, nice job!
existentialism might as well be confirmed to be the main theme with Caine having shown to experience it in Episode 3
I wasn't expecting or was prepared for all this deepness. Amazing vid btw
I wish you waited until the third episode 😭 I wanted to see what you had to say about it
Oh my gosh not the yttd soundtrack right when you start talking abt Jax I'm dead
Great vid 👍
First video essay and its a fucking banger?!?! I cant wait to see what else you make and watch your channel grow!!!
Not even two minutes in and I'd already subscribed. Awesome video, hope to see more from you!
wow, this was an incredible video! very well-put and thoroughly thought out, you did awesome!
Oh my god PLEASE do an analysis on episode 3, this is amazing!
0:32 BIG SHOT spotted.
24:17 Ragatha says that Caine likes to reuse NPCs sometimes. She says this to Pomni to console her while she's still reeling over Gummigoo's death. This hints that Gummigoo will probably come back in a new episode!
I was gonna talk about the Utah Teapot but it looks like a few fine folks have already covered it XD just a fun little 3DMA gag
Looking forward to your future videos! It was an entertaining one, and I dig the art style. Volume was a bit low, but it wasn't seriously bad.
I love your character and the deltarune music!!!! Thank you for this tadc analysis it was very cool
just rewathed the entirety of digital circus and MD (murder drones) and i gotta say you nailed this video and perfected it its a shock coming from a small channel like yours in a good way
I like your art style.
19:16 It's funny looking at this now with the context that literally all Jax did in the 3rd episode was break the fourth wall, suck up a ghost, and bully Gangle. I'm pretty sure he only has like 3 minutes of screentime in that episode lol
(not that I think he won't be the villain in most episodes and I do understand that this was a kinger-centric episode but it's just funny seeing this "He'll murder somebody" now lol)
Great work on this, the drawings, editing and music choices all really click on the first try really well, hope to see more from you
dude this goes so hard omg im so mad it doesnt have as many views as i thought. also you're really onto smth here!!! goose said at some point (on tumblr i think) that the thing she wants people to take away from the show is that no matter how hopeless or stagnant one's life is, there's still meaning and fulfillment to be found in the people around you and in yourself.
at the time of writing this it's like 5 hours til episode 3 drops and i am SO excited to see what that brings to the table btw ahaha
THE BOJACK REFERENCE THOUGH 😭😭😭😭😭
I was just thinking aboutthat very scene last night.
"You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around.
You turn yourself around...
/that's/ what life's about"
I'm loving the utdr music pairing. Great analysis btw!
(idk where else to put this or how to do so, but I'd be especially interested in seeing you talk about and break down Ragatha & Gangle's characters at some point, since they're my personal favourites LOL)
Anyway uhhh. YEAH GREAT VIDEO I LOVED THIS
Love that the sound effect you used to bring the plot pyramid in, is essentially the same sound effect used in episode 3 lol
1:59 that diagram is called dramaturgy
do i spot a steven universe fan?!?! (btw awesome video, ur so underrated!!)
Teapots are often hidden in game files to test lighting on because they're relatively easy to make but complex enough to test lighting
my personal running theory currently is that akin to the inspiration of I Have No Mouth, all of the humans are going to “die”, with the exception of Pomni. she will willingly remain in the circus with Caine.
less stable theorising: Pomni will find out some secret in either episode 7 or 8, at their ends, which will ultimately lead to the abstraction or otherwise functional death of everyone else in the circus. maybe she finds some way to properly die, maybe it’s about the abstracted, maybe it’s the idea that they’re not their original selves and instead brain clones unaware of such a fact and convinced they’re the originals, leading to a crisis upon realising there was never a way out in the first place - or maybe for a lighter note there actually is a way out, and they can take it, but i don’t think it’ll be like that. anyway, Pomni doesn’t break because she’s already come to terms with it or something, leaving her alone with Caine. or she chooses to stay behind while the others go, idk.
thinking about it a second time, though… Jax really does seem like the Ted of the group, doesn’t he? Maybe I wouldn’t be super surprised if it was him instead who “killed” everyone… because it seems like he’s already given up hope.
I hope you stay consistent, because this is way too high quality for me to never see you again 🙏🏼😭
20:43 *shows the "You're an irredeemable monster!" clip*
Seconds later:
"Don't get me wrong, I don't think Jax will be entirely irredeemable"
Super well made video, made me laugh out loud a few times, definitely love your editing style and can't wait to see more!
I LOVE YOUR OC! Reminds me of Steven universe’s art style :D
Holy hell, is this your first commentary video? If so, this is amazing for a first time! You speak very concisely and your visual presentation is very appealing :D
i like how the blue person says funny words
comment for the engagement cuz you deserve way more views this analysis is just so good
stumbled across this expecting it to be from someone popular but your are surprisingly underrated, thanks algorithm! you def earned yourself a subscriber
Might be a bit off topic, but I was not expecting to get jumpscared by hourglass meadow lol. You have amazing music taste.
In the german dub for episode 1 Jax says right before pushing Gangle in front of the escalator, that it would be out of character if he let her through.
two characters smooching ofc
that feel of time going faster as you age isnt gonna stop
This editing was SOOO good omg
"... is to find meaning in things that might not even necessarily be intentional" In a way, isn't that really the best way to beat nihilism? to decide that things dont need to be *built* with meaning in order for you to find one within it? If you ARE right about the themes, i'd say that line is incredibly fitting
thank you for the music list :DDDD
also loved the video and HEAVILY underrated!!!!
The tea pots is an old meme in 3d animation/programming i cant remember the exact but its essentially one of the first complex objects modeled in 3d history so it essently a "hello world" but for animation instead of programming
i don't understand why people use the bowling ball scene as an example of his awful nature, a truly selfish person would've ran past them and jump into the hole for safety, leaving them to be attacked, but instead he pushed them into safety first, then jumped in, to me at least, it shows that he has moments where he does care at little bit about his "friends" in certain situations, and that those moments are very few and far between
Disco Elysium mentioned! I explode with joy and confetti!
Also good analysis of the episodes! ❤
Something interesting, is that while most of the exit doors(including the very first one she sees at the start that vanishes) are red, the one she sees in the distance briefly while flying over the exterior is orange.
Perhaps the red ones are the failed tests Caine has been working on, but that orange door was the rea ldeal
This is actually so cool. I really admire your work! Definitely going to be subscribing
Bro Toby Fox, and Pizza tower music in the background? How did you nail my music taste?
duuuuude you are spot on I am inspired to analyze the stuff I love now thank you
Here's mine: Some kind of preservation project gone wrong for humans after societal collapse from a war. And we got to see it happen right in front of us. The characters being *worthy* before joining the circus. Going insane or living in perpetual insanity living long enough.
its about pomni who cant escape the digital circus
19:02
yes, I did ask for this, thank you!
EVERYBODY'S TALKING ABOUT JAMIE MENTION! I'VE NEVER SEEN SOMEONE MENTION THAT MUSICAL OMFL YES! SUBSCRIBED!!
YES i was so sure no one would get that reference
@@blu3_sue I DID! It's one of my favourite musicals!!
The tea pots are like a test objact to test graphical things like shaders, lighting, shadows and more. the tea pots are a good objacts for testing becuase of its shape with lots of edges and curves. and refrence to one of the first 3d render.
you are so good at editing
One thing i have seen people say about Jax is that he is just extremely on edge and mesed with by the situatiuon so he copes with it by schadenfreude
forgive me father, for I have sinned, please make these urges go away, MY COSIN IS NOT HOT, MY COSIN IS NOT HOT
What???
@@Yellowguy0619 🥵🥵🥵
U got this bro just keep it together ❤️
I have been blessed by the algorithm to suggest this video.
