    Shut downs on apartment buildings are the worst. I always use lockout tag out but even that still bugs me out from time to time that someone will take it off and turn the water on while I’m actually on a job I hate that feeling.😔

      Lock out tag out means lock out tag out put a lock on the valve and a tag saying how many people have to approve the lock being taken off you can even install multiple valves to put a lock from every contractor so this doesn’t happen

    One time I was replacing some 3/4" pipe in a bathroom of an apartment high up when the upstair's neighbor's leg came through the ceiling. And I look up and see this guy's leg kicking above me and him yelling. The floor was so rotted the man nearly fell through the floor. That was a very old building and should have been torn down. The pipes they had were from the turn of the century and the whole interior was nothing but rust crumbling to dust that had breached to the outside in places. The whole building's plumbing was nothing but a giant sieve that damaged its structural integrity to the point of being condemned.

  • @brookelord3448
    @brookelord3448 Год назад +4

    This is why lockouts exist. My family is sprinkler fitters and pipe fitters. When they turn off gas or water there is an adapter (easy to cut if needed) to use 8 padlocks instead of 1. All workers take their lock when their done. If someone forgets their lock, it can easily be cut off after confirming that all workers are gone and the work is completed.
    If the valve doesn't have a slot for a pad lock, wrap a chain or steel cable as tight as possible. Even a plastic zip tie can work. The purpose isn't to stop the valve from turning ever, its just to confirm multiple workers gave clearance to turn something back on.
    If this happened with a gas line you would be counting lives lost instead of money lost.

    That story highlights the importance of a good lock out/tag out system. In this case the way to go about it is that a single community lock goes onto the water main to prevent it from tirning on. Then the key goes in a gang lock box. Then each plumber puts their own personal tagged locks on the box and keeps their own key to their own lock. Main lock can't be opened until all plumbers remove their own locks to open the box and retrieve the main key.

    This is a question, can a main shut off valve could be tagged like electrical lock out/tag out with multiple trades tied into it? Like the general contractor who responsible for the tag out contact every single trade to make sure that they’re finished with their work before turning the water back on? Like have a list of contractors who requested the water shut down, and then contact each supervisor to make sure they’re complete before turning it on. Because that’s what I would do, even if one contractor is done they have to wait for the other contractor to finish before water turns back on

    how is it you are able to get the pipes out with just channelocks ? i have a building from 1943 and i always got to use a big pipe wrench and even a pipe on that for more leverage.

    Big fan of your content. I have underestimated the complexity of plumbing. I guess the work itself isn't super technical, it's managing all the edge cases of things going horribly wrong which you would least expect.

    brosky, why you use brass fittings ? they crack so ezy, one extra turn and could crack and dat crack could be so small, you won't see it, wont leak at dat time, but could later.. is dat for cold water or hot ? use galvanized,yea will rust over time but won't crack-y, brass much cheaper brosky i got it..

    Yo quick question. I heard of you use a Vega ProPress fitting close to a solder joint. You're good. I heard if you use any other brand next to a solder joint you'll break the joint. That don't make sense to me. What have you heard about that?

    I like this guy the sheer incompetence of all people involved if you’re doing a shut down and you have eight plumbers seven of them come back do you say we’re done go ahead and turn the water back on oh snap we forgot about the last guy. oh well $5 million later what do you care of the insurance companies money?

  • @reekz1568

    There should be a tag for each contract plumber on that valve, so it can only be turned back on when the final guy removes his.
