I've never been in a fight, except for one time, if you could even call it a fight. I was in highschool, 16 or 17 average height and overweight, and I had been bullied, emotionally, for a few years by one guy.
One day I had been walking down the halls in the middle of classes to get something for a teacher and this guy was in the hall as well for some reason, and of course instead of just walking by each other he starts up like normal. But that day was my breaking point, I was literally fighting back tears and instead of walking away like normal, I instead chose to kick him a single time in his shin and then continued on my way.
I didn't see him for a few days after that, but when we did eventually cross paths about a week later he had this massive dark-purple bruise on his leg and surprisingly he apologized to me. Not a word was spoken between us for the rest of highschool.

Something similar happened with me. I got bullied horrendously as a kid, I even wound up with a broken arm (and had I been unlucky, it could have been a broken neck instead) in 3rd grade entirely because of those bullies. Then comes my Junior year of High School, and by this point I'd gone from being one of the smallest guys in school to one of the absolute biggest and bulkiest (I even dwarfed some of my teachers!), and I have long since gotten sick of being the victim. Then one day as I'm going to my next class, this one punk who has two of his buddies with him starts trying to hassle me because I'm on my own. My response? I calmly start walking right up to him and then I simply stare *_DOWN_* at him, silently daring him to do try something. I could see his entire thought process written on his face as well, starting off all smug and cocky, then looking a bit concerned as he likely started to realize the size difference between us, and ending with him having an absolutely terrified look on his face as he found himself having to look *_UP_* just to look me in the eye, as the punk wasn't even shoulder height to me. He and his two buddies promptly ran off and never bothered me again. And that felt incredible. After all those years of being the victim, I'd finally gotten some payback, and all without me having to say a word or lift a finger.
By that point, those who knew me also knew that I was the textbook definition of the "gentle giant", as I was well-known for being one of the most laid-back, polite, and friendly (albeit quiet) guys in school (and I was very upfront about how I hate violence, but I wasn't afraid to stand up for myself or my friends anymore), and after that trio of punks tried messing with me, word apparently got around to leave me alone, as I never got bullied again. It may even be why I started becoming quite popular with girls (which I absolutely didn't expect), as they likely felt safe just having someone like me around knowing that I would never do anything to hurt them, and that in a worst-case scenario I absolutely would do whatever I could to protect them. Especially after they helped me to come out of my shell more and just be myself.
And before our Senior Ball, we all got to go up on stage, and when it was my turn, I got to do so with one girl on each arm! I went from being the favorite victim of a bunch of bullies, to the only Senior in my year to go up on stage before our Senior Ball with a girl on each arm! And no, I wasn't dating either of them, we were just friends. And they could both tell how nervous I really was at the time (I've never been comfortable as the center of attention, so going up on stage like that always made me extremely nervous) because of how tense my arms were, and I trusted them enough that I wasn't afraid to admit it in the slightest. So I suppose that was some well-deserved and long-awaited "Good Karma" coming my way for always trying to do the right thing.

My dad is really patient and soft spoken but people are very intimidated by him because he’s built like a bison. Sometimes I don’t see how people are scared of him. Like this is the same man who spends time catching frogs before he mows the grass so he doesn’t kill them and people are scared of him. Then I remember the time he got mad on my behalf.
In early elementary school I had to take all the therapies they could offer. Speech therapy, behavioural therapy as well as physiotherapy. I was selectively mute, overly skittish, didn’t have an interest in interacting with my classmates and a few of my muscles were underdeveloped. I remember coming home from school upset because I was treated like I was stupid or wrong by some of the staff. My dad was mad so he arranged a meeting with the school and spoke on my behalf. He doesn’t yell, he doesn’t need too, all he did was talk slightly louder than usual and I was treated a lot better.

If I were to give a story about the time I saw the fury of a patient man, it would have been earlier this year, when my English teacher, a rather nice, enthusiastic, and hilarious guy who almost NEVER loses his temper nowadays absolutely lashes out at this kid, who was one or two grades below me at the time. It seemed like whatever that kid did, (I'm pretty sure it had something to do with being super disrespectful to a teacher) was bad enough to get him yelled at by the absolute best teacher in my school. It was frightening to watch, seriously.

Usually a really great guy who is very patient and fun....but Jesus Christ when he got mad it was so terrifying that I would legitimately be on the verge of an anxiety attack (I'm autistic and don't handle people getting mad/yelling/making loud noises very well...and were talking him going from friendly to slamming the piano cover down and the entire atmosphere of the room immediately coming to a halt as everyone went silent. I have a story like this about my father! TW for mentions of assault
Heres some backstory on my father: my dad is very calm, soft spoken, mutters and is a hermit. me and him get along really well now but we didnt get along too well at the time this story takes place. he has anger issues, but hes learned to cope.
So, right before covid hit an Ex friend of mine came to live with us because her living situation was not working at all. Fine with me i saw them as family at that point in my life. Fast-forward a while and shes turning my mental health recovery into a set back and im struggling to keep my head straight. Were having one of our good moments out on my trampoline in the backyard, but shes had some shit to drink (Legal in my state if your on privet property), so shes a little tipsy, and im sober. We're bouncin around having a grand ol time and she pins me and tries to kiss me. Shes taller and bigger then me and I have the knowlage she used to have a crush on me, as well as previous SA trauma, so i freak out. I push her off and run inside. After that i tell my dad i want to visit my grandmother in another state for the foreseeable future. Schools cancelled and were online learning so he sees no problem with it. So we go live with her for a while. I finaly tell my therapist what happened, and she says by law she has to inform my father.
That happens, and i have never seen the same amount of calm rage on his face directed at another living being in my LIFE. He was so MAD he let this person live in our house for years, mad that his wife enabled said person and wont just kick her out despite all the issues its caused HIS ACTUAL KID.
She was stuck in our house for another year i belive even after he and my mother found out. She stayed because of my mom, and i havnt forgiven her for it since.

Dude at my school messed with me basically every time he saw me, it had been going on for two years. I think I was 14. It was always annoying, but I later came to conclusion, much later, he was probably smitten with me, this was his way to show it. Im pretty mellow chick, everything goes, its all good as long as no one gets hurt, I dont sweat the small stuff. But this one particular day my crap-meter totally went to red.
I was standing in line for lunch, chatting with my classmate. We are are maybe third or fourth in this line, at the very top anyway. Dude sneaked behind me, tried to make me fall by pushing my knees with his knees (still being behind me) and grabbed the hood of my hoodie, slightly strangling me in the process. I didnt even think, this was more reaction than action. I turned around super fast (his attempt to get me off balance wasnt successful enough) and slapped him, hard. The clap sounded like thunder, it echoed in the assembly hall forever. The sound is what I remember the best 30+ years later.
Now I see who it is. He stops instantly, mouth open and in shock, lifts his hand on his red cheek (my handprint was visible the whole day!), backs off and starts running away. He was visibly shaken, he obviously didnt expect to be on the receiving end and he definitely didnt expect this from me. Kids at the queue behind us start clapping, he wasnt very well liked guy, bit of a bully. My classmate just stood there, not believing what just happened. For the rest of the day people came to say me random stuff about the incident, even kids I barely knew, but didnt really socialize with.
This is the only time I have been violent, only time I have hit anyone. Ever. But Id still do it over again, because the rest of my time at this school.. the dude was less obnoxious to me and even more importantly, never again put his hands on me. As I see it, it was deserved and worth it. Everybody has a limit, mine was met that day.

My father was an army air corps combat veteran. He was an introverted and a relatively small, 5 ft 7 in and maybe 150 lbs. At the time of this incident he was 57 years old and looked older. My sister has a conversation with an attractive classmate about an upcoming speech tournament. As she is leaving a slightly drunk clearly former football player at the game with his former teammates maybe at best 40 years old proposition her. Before she can even respond my dad stands as says to this man, “ you will apologize to the young lady” in a commanding voice I had never heard before. Oh the father had 8 children including 5 sons. The guy takes one look down at my dad backs away and says in quiet frighten voice I didn’t mean anything, stops speaking very a moment then apologize to the girl. She then leaves. After she leaves his friends apologize to my father repeatedly using sir and haul the guy off. Dad never raised his voice.

Not sure if it counts, as all my dad did way yelling over the phone.
My mom had been trying to rearrange some things with their shared bank accounts and failed because the bank guy insisted on talking to my dad directly as in "our culture" (we're from a former warshaw pact country), "women don't handle finances". Despite the account being a shared account, with my mom handling all finances as she's better with that type of work than my dad. By the time my dad would be home from work, the bank was closed, so he couldn't do much. So he took a day off from work to tell the bank what he thinks about their sexist bs and close all accounts at that bank.

If you gave a Soviet man a free access to money, they would get drunk loose all of it next day.

This kinda happened to me a few years back, at the end of high school. By no means was I an especially tall kid, but I wouldn’t actually clap back despite being buĺlied relatively frequently. After P.E. one day, one of the older kids in the class (typical tall, sporty, insecure wanker) decided to push his luck and I just fucking broke. Yelled at him in his face, squared up to him, very nearly threw a punch to his face if the teacher hadn't heard me and stepped in.
The entire changing room was in stunned silence, because no-one was expecting the small quiet nerdy kid to have it in him. I'm still pissed that no one else decided to actually try and help me out

Had I been in that class with you, I _would_ have stepped in. I got bullied a lot as a kid (I even wound up with a broken arm at one point because of it), so I know just how horrible it feels. Fortunately the bullying stopped for me once I made it clear that I was *_done_* being the victim. I never actually had to resort to violence, but by that point I was ready and willing to resort to violence if it was necessary, but I would never actively go looking for a fight. Admittedly, it also helped that by HS I'd gone from one of the smallest guys in school to one of the biggest and bulkiest, and yet I still had the demeanor of the classic "gentle giant", as normally I'm very calm, laid-back, and friendly. That's likely one reason why I started becoming popular with girls, they most likely felt safe just having me around.

    Me in 8th grade….
Always had a problem with getting bullied. I’m a skinny (early child) redhead, fairly quiet, don’t really know how to make friends and socialize, but I did Decathlon and martial arts, both twice a week, so I was pretty strong and quick, just no way for people to tell…..
Science building at my school had 4 floors, normal classrooms on the ground, then physics, biology and chemistry on the top floor (that way when something blows up in chemistry, you can still evac the building without everyone having to walk through toxic gas)
Stairway was square with a roughly 3m square in the middle (stairs on the wall) that went all the way through, so you could see all the way down.
Came up to chemistry after the break ended and the bully started pushing me around, rougher than usually.
The girl I hard crushed on turns to her best friends (the two were class speakers), starts crying and says “I cant watch this anymore, why won’t they (the teachers) do anything about it”
I put down my bad, took of my jacket (which I never did cause I’m basically always freezing), quietly walked up to the dude who spat out some “what are you gonna do” comment and when he tried to punch me I took his arm, twisted it and started dragging him to the stairwell.
Would have straight up thrown him down, and not down the flight of stairs… I picked the middle.
Two other boys immediately separated us, one later said to me that he immediately knew what was about to happen when I stopped ignoring the bully
When they pulled us apart, I just lifted both legs and kicked the bully in the stomach. Cracked a few of his ribs and threw all 4 of us to the ground.
    Never had any problems again
My parents still had me switch schools…. guess how that went
Another two years before I got physical again in 10th grade and beat up a guy a year ahead for having kid with a disability in a choke hold. THAT guy was at least a foot taller and double my weight. Told him to let him go (which he surprisingly did) and pulled the kid out of his reach, then one hard kick in the belly folded him in half.
Only reason I got out of that with no serious injuries is the full on surprise.
I don’t get why people punch…. Kicking is fun. You got more reach, it’s stronger and you don’t break your wrists

Back in 9th grade everyone knew me for being the twin brother that was always smiling and making people laugh. There was barely any one that could say they ever saw me in a bad mood, until one particular day in art class i wasnt rlly having a great week and was going through an arguement i was having with some friends and my then girlfriend. This one guy named Payton would always have something to say to everyone in a sassy way and had a friend that would always egg him on, was talking aloud abt some rumors he made up abt my girlfriend and i, also was dragging her name in the dirt. A few minutes past before i realized that he was talking alot of lies abt my relationship. I kindly told him that he should stop saying things that arent true if he didnt want anyone doing the same to him. He went quiet for a bit before continuing where he left off. This happened 2 more times of me telling him to stop and him continuing moments later with me starting to get visibly angrier with every attempt. At this point the teacher caught on to what might have happened if either of us continued and tried to stop the both of us which got him to stop talking. But this wouldnt be long before he proceeded to start up again but this time trying intimidate me. Which makes sense bc i was an "underweight, around 5"7 with no visible muscle on him" kid. But i was very angry (one of the few time i can say i got that mad). I got up from my seat which i was sitting across the class from him and walked over. All the rest of the students were relaxed thinking that i was trying to intimidate him more, but my twin brother was also in the class and he was worried bc again i never got to this point of anger before. The teacher also is trying to get me to sit back down at this point. Halfway to his desk Payton continues to play tough guy and questions me on what exactly i was even going to do once i got to him. Standing in the front of him i gave him another chance to stop making up stories and lies abt my girl girlfriend and i. He goes silent. Thinking that i finally got him to stay that way i go to walk away back to my seat but Payton decides that he must have the last word and tries to offend me and my girlfriend one more time. Then i snapped, i realized that the only way to shut him up was if i made him and i lost the thought of what would happen as a consequence to my soon to be actions. I turned around grabbed his shirt for a steady hold and started to punch his lower jaw bc the only thought that was going through my mind was seeing that he couldnt talk anymore. I got abt 3-4 strong punches in before my brother rushed over to pull me off of him. The whole class was surprised at what happened. I was told to step out of the class and sit on a bench to calm down. As i sat down i started to ask why and how i acted in that way when ive never done anything like that before. Fast forward to the end of the day i was told i could no longer enter the class unless i had a signed note from any administrators after informing them abt what happened and what i did. I sat in the office for 2 days during the period i would be in art class before i got to meet with one of them. I explained to him what happened and he looked at me and said "huh... well i've seen you with a smile for quite literally the whole year so i know youre not the type to look for a fight. Ill sign this note and you can go back to class now." I basically got off with no consequences and learned that after that fight Payton never came to school for abt two weeks until it was time to do our final exams.

Seems like I've always heard that society needs "dangerous" men who know how to turn it off and when to use it and everything.. Seems like that's one of the big philosophical traits for men - stay stoic most of the time, be loving and show emotions in specific situations and then, when necessary, turn into the Hulk to protect loved ones, defend the weak and defenseless, neutralize threats, disrupt evil deeds, stop other men who didn't turn off their danger mode, etc.. I guess "danger(ous)" is almost a metaphor here - I think it just means men who aren't afraid to properly use violence for good when necessary and to not be afraid of dangerous situations when defenseless people are at risk. Stuff/archetypes like the superhero fighting the bad guys, soldiers/police/firefighters, dads protecting their families, men who see someone in danger and jump into action, etc... And it doesn't mean to the exclusion of women either. Just that when men specifically start becoming weak and afraid to take action and jump into situations and interject, it gives evil/evildoers free reign to cause havoc and society starts to crumble..

Maybe, but I think that attitude still promotes weakness. It's far too individual, and a single person is still far weaker than a group.
It doesn't really matter how dangerous one person is if they're fighting a crowd. One weak person is a target, 100 weak people is a force to be reckoned with.
I think rather than focusing on making some people "protectors" and other people "protected" we have to foster a strong enough sense of community that when people see somebody being messed with, they feel personally slighted. Really have a "if you fuck with one of us, you fuck with all of us" attitude.
When you look throughout history, even the societies that promoted the dangerous man archetype didn't really change from individual dangerous men. It was never one big leader who changed things, it was armies, political movements, uprisings, etc.
Humans are social creatures, and we should play to our strengths. It's why people aren't putting as much emphasis on individual strength, because how strong you are individually doesn't matter nearly as much when you know you're not alone.

When i was a kid a pretty much opposite happened to me
As a kid i was very short tempered, so the kids in my class thought that it was funny to piss me off. There was this other kid in the class, he was the kid that went between different groups of kids trying to become a part of one, wasn't bullied, just ignored. One day he decided to "join in with the others" and started annoying me, i came up to him without saying a word and just punched him in the solar plexus while he just stood there like an idiot. By that time barely anyone annoyed me, we were in 3-rd grade, it got old and i somewhat stopped caring about it, so people just ignored the whole situation. I didn't even get in trouble for it.

One of the things I want to fundamentally change in every school ever is for the school to punish the abuser instead of the victim the victim is just standing up for themselves and the abuser in some instances has no potential outlet for their aggression so yeah no shit things are going to reach a boiling point And it only then when the school acts it’s the stupidest thing ever and I wish it would just stop

Damn... one was close to home. i also was severely bullied as a kid by 4 people. it took 5 years for me to snap. they followed me on my way home and threw insults all the way to where the incident happened. i never talked back or fought back. so i still cant believe what people said had happened. because the last thing i remember is being shoved hard against the wall. i hit my head than nothing. Next thing i know i woke up at the hospital. i do remember that i did feel great relieve at the fact that i woke up at all. I would not put it past them to go one day too far. i did fear for my life at that time. They had become more and more violent after all. I had some nasty bruises but otherwise was fine. it was when the police showed up shortly after i woke up, that i heared that all 4 a-holes were in other rooms in the hospital. apparently i had fought back that time like a berzerk. 3 broken arms, two broken legs. a broken jaw and a cop that arrived at the scene got my fist between his legs when they tried to pull me from the last one. the other 3 were already out of it when they happend to drive by. I think the only reason i did not end up in jail for this was my full testimony about everything they did over the past 5 years to me backed by some classmates that finally grew some balls to say something.
The bummer was that the threw ME out of school, and not them, though. But my mother had planned to relocate us across the country in summer break anyway. that whole thing just meant summer break came two months early. after said break and 300 miles relocation i learned that some bullies must have a radar inbuilt or can smell the bullied lie bloodhounds. no fresh start, just another 5 years of hell.

I have plenty of minor stories, since I have social and generalized anxiety, so I'm usually pretty quiet about things. My "father" is the one who usually gets the butt end of my fury. He's an asshole who abused me and my full sister in a lot of ways, and it's a miracle I'm not a terrible person with the way I was treated as a kid. This man has lost multiple things from his mom, my noona, because I confirmed her suspicions of him using her for her money, even if he's really just losing more and more inheritance. He's now losing around 3k because he wouldn't even bother to check the sump pumps in her house for so long that a water bill of 3k was made, and she had to pay 777$ for new ones and installation (the person who came said it would be funny if it was 777$ instead of 778$ lol)

I never once stood up for myself when I was getting bullied and just tried to ignore them, but the moment they started bullying a friend of mine I told them to knock it off multiple times and when they didn't, I just got up and whacked them as hard as I could with my bookbag. The bully in question was a wannabe rapper and... he was REALLY bad at it, like.. extremely bad. The entire class would tell him to shut up when he starts "rapping". His "rapping" is more akin to a combination of baby gibberish and mumble rapping. Dude didn't even graduate high school, he dropped out literally 2 weeks before graduation.

the last story, as a person that constantly carries a knife for self defense and ready at any moments, i once had a time that i almost killed a guy bc i thought he was about to rob me, i was miliseconds far to pull the knife out and destroy his face with it ( its a karambit, so its a reverse grip, combat oriented knife ), thankfully i realized he wasnt gonna rob me soon enough, but the adrenaline rush you get when you feel your life is about to be in danger, i can relate to that pretty well

So, I’m not exactly the calm and patient type, but I rarely ever get physical. And by rarely, I mean only once, and not against my older brother. I was at a church dance, I’d spent the past two hours in the gym with tons of other people, and considering that I’m an introvert and rather sensitive when it comes to crowds, I was rather drained emotionally, not to the point of being an emotional zombie, but I was definitely at the edge. I was in the game room, playing chess against another girl, when this guy came up and took my king off of the board. Naturally, I was annoyed, and told him that I would punch him in the face if he did it again. I normally would have never done it, but after him bothering me a bit more, including us trying to intimidate each other, as well as him asking “Can you even see without your glasses?” Which is really rude, btw. He eventually took my king and threw it across the room. I just snapped. I lunged at him, and tried to punch him. I got him on the jaw, and it was soon found out that he was egging me on, trying to see if I would make good on my threat. Too bad I didn’t hurt him, I practically just tapped him. He ended up getting kicked out after a little bit, while I ended up leaving after a few minutes.

About 13 years ago, when i was in 6th grade. A friend of my friend kept insulting me and my brothers repeatedly almost allcday every day for 4 months. Yes he did that while i was there and everything. I was the calm one in this story. He could say anything about me or my brothers and it didnt bother me much but one day he insulted my mother which at the time, had a bad depression and had recently took us in after her recent divorce. We were playing outside in the snow and my bubble popped. I proceeded to jump on him and pin him to the floor. Then sent 3 hit directed at his face. Broke his glasses and gave him a black eye with one, dislocated his jaw with the next and finally broke his nose with the last... then i slowly got up and went to a corner somewhere. Everyone was terrified of me. Nobody wanted to approach me either. But i was back to my calm state. He of course later went to the principal's office to complain and my dad was later summoned and his parents were too. We got a bill for the glasses and went back in the car with my dad and proceeded to explain myself. Dad was so proud he just ripped the invoice up and we later went to the restaurant.
Guy got what he deserved xD

I have a story like this. So, I'm in a poly relationship, me and this other person are dating the same boy, but we're strictly platonic (the other person is monogamous anyways). While currently it's just us three, there used to be 3 others. At the time of the incident, my boyfriend had already broken up with two of them due to infidelity or neglect, and while this other boy gave him REAL trouble, he was still patient with him. But one day, he asked if an account he found was an alt account of his. The guy lied about it and said no. And even when we had someone else confirm it was his, he wouldn't stop. Him and my boyfriend went back and forth. At some point during the discussion, my boyfriend snapped and started yelling about how this boy lied about the stupidest of things and would always prioritize things over their relationship, he told the boy that he loved him but they were done, and now we haven't heard from him in about a couple weeks?- Well either way me and his other partner are very proud of him!
