I just dropped a brand new Sustain in the drink. 20 seconds. It's sitting in a bucket of water. You were a great repairer on the Gold Coast Shannon. Keep up with the vids and info. Andy
Thanks for sharing this info. I haven't dropped my reels in water yet but I get them splashed all the time when on the plane and the rods are in the rod holder. What do I do with the reels in this situation? I usually hose them down, is that enough?
I recently dropped my 24 certate in salt water while I was fishing, it was only in the water for a few seconds. Should I send it to diawa to get a service or will just a rinse in fresh water be ok
The new rod went in the drink yesterday afternoon about 2m deep whilst kayaking. Heading back this afternoon to try and jag retrieve it. Hopefully the bait didn't stay on and there's a 90cm flatty dragging it around.
If your reels are fairly new just send them back to Daiwa under warranty. If they are getting on and out of warranty any decent reel repairer can fix them.

Just a light misty hose down should be fine.

No mate it won't be alright, the longer you leave it the worse it will get. Get the reel serviced ASAP.
Good luck mate.

No flatty but I managed to find rod/reel and retrieve them. Mate your video was about the reels. Would there be any special treatment for the rod ?
@@mattdebritt8441 I am happy to hear you got the outfits back and no there is no special treatment for the rods just give em a good wash.
Also with Diawa mag sealed reels, do they have to be sent to Daiwa or can anyone who knows what they are doing service one? Cheers Shannon 👍

Hey mate I’ve heard WD40 breaks down the grease. I use Inox. Have i been given the wrong information mate? Cheers
Yes it does mate. I don"t use either I only use light grease and oil.
Use a quality ultrasonic for all the metal parts. Re-liberate and you’re golden.
I never thought of using a ultrasonic to clean fishing reels what a great idea, I will have to look into this a bit more. Thanks mate.
@@ShannonsFishing quite common for metal pats at least for electro hydraulic brake overhauls, and internal SCUBA regulator components. 💪😃
