Who else still gets goosebumps, chills, and tears during the funeral scene? When it hits the climax @0:45, I instantly get overwhelmed by emotions. John Powell is truly amazing and has blessed us with a wonderful score.
Stoic the vast will forever be in our hearts. Tony Stark, we will always love him 3000. Oogway, we will always believe in. To all of the greats in our favorite movies.
"I don't want another wife. Your mother was the only woman for me. She was the love of my life...And with love comes loss, son. It's part of the deal. And sometimes it hurts, but, in the end, it's all worth it. There is no greater gift than love." ~ Stoick the Vast, Feb. 22 2019
“May the Valkyries welcome you and lead you through Odin’s great battle field. May they sing your name with love and fury so that we might hear it rise from the depths of Valhalla, and know that you've taken your rightful place at the table of kings. For a great man has fallen. A warrior... a chieftain... a father... a friend.”
Then during ragnarok half the great army of fallen warriors fell into the abyss when the great bridge from Asgard fell and the other half still was destroyed when the world was set on fire
Stoick: Hiccup!... I'm sorry. For-for everything. Hiccup: Yeah, me too. Stoick: You don't have to go up there. Hiccup: We're Vikings. It's an occupational hazard. Stoick: I'm proud to call you my son.
Even though I’m a girl, I could relate to Hiccup in the ways we couldn’t connect with our fathers until some drastic happens and they learned to understand us rather than change us, I think this is why I have such an emotional connection to this movie
Yeah...It hit me hard to see Stoick's death. He just found out that his wife was alive. They just danced and rejoice in that reunion. But then, he had to sacrificed himself.
"That's Stoick the Vast. Chief of the tribe. They say that when he was a baby he popped a dragon's head clean off its shoulders. Do I believe it? Yes I do." ~ Hiccup
Watch the scene again, and there's another heartwarming blink and you'll miss it moment: After Hiccup lets his arrow fly, all of the others are looking to ASTRID for direction, and only release their arrows after she does. It's a subtle but powerful way to show the cast acknowledging that, without his father, ASTRID is the one closest to hiccup and is his second in command. Not Gobber, not Valka, not Snotlout.
This movie was great to watch in the theater. It was such a sad moment that when toothless knocked Drago off his back the whole theater clapped and shouted.
*Race to the Edge* There do I see my father, my mother, and my brothers and my sisters. They bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla... where the brave shall live forever. *HTTYD2* May the Valkyries welcome you and lead you through Odin's great battlefield. May they sing your name with love and fury, so that we might hear it rise from the depths of Valhalla and know that you've taken your rightful place at the table of kings. For a great man has fallen: A warrior. A chieftain. A father. A friend.
This trilogy is one of those that have a satisfying and realistic(Their pov) sacrifices 1: Hiccup loses a leg in an effort to save his tribe 2: Stoick's demise and Hiccup's acceptance to the throne, losing his freedom forever but gaining what he wanted since the 1st movie, be a part of them 3: Acceptance and contenment of what they now have even when they lost their dragon friends The trilogy will always have this satisfying yet bittersweet tang
I once thought something like, "why didn't they take the body to Berk to do the funeral and cremation there". Then I remembered they'd have to show the characters taking stoick's dead body to Berk and it would have been lost somewhere in the fight against Drago, as well as be traumatic towards the little kids
And their only mode of transport were baby dragons that could only carry one person each. And they didn't have any ships aside from the small boat that they used to cremate him with.
HTTYD is actually pretty accurate here. Stoick was a viking. Vikings were burnt on these ships, that was their funeral for different reasons: some believed, that the dead would cross with the ship into the afterlive, some other believed that this way would prevent the undeads of coming back.
Stoic's death was such a shock, I honestly didn't know whether I hated or loved HTTYD for a bit. But they were bold in doing this, as life CAN be this sudden. And how Hiccup moved on from his deep, personal loss is a valuable life lesson. So yes I love HTTYD all the more for it.
The whole instance feels a lot like the Lion King. Disney was praised for facing death head on with a loved character in that movie, and DreamWorks was praised for this scene. The key in both is that, unlike many characters that are killed off in the prologue, The Lion King and HTTYD allowed us to get to know the characters and love them before they died, making the scenes all the more impactful.
We were all standing on that hill, overlooking the mist-covered sea, we all raised our bows and fired them onto that ship. When Stoick dies its wasn't just the Berkian's who lost their Chief, the whole fandom did, we all lost a part of ourselves, we will sing his name in love and fury, so that he may go forth to join the heroes of the past. We miss you Stoick and will tell your story for all generations. Thank-you Samuel Kim, for giving us the gift of your music in a time when we all needed Stoick, thank-you.
I remember see this scene in theaters and I was starting to tear up. When the arrows launched some guy stood up and started to salute, then another and then me and soon the entire room was saluting. It's a character like Stoick that makes you realise. A strong man isnt a person who can lift a boulder or can fight 100 men. A strong man is someone who will jump in the line of danger to protect those who make him strong mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally. (‘-‘*ゞ
"I, uh... I was so afraid of becoming my dad. Mostly because I thought I never could. How, how do you become someone that great, that brave... that selfless. I guess you can only... try." -Hiccup
I think it is the most powerful pieces of music ever written, the emotion thrown into it, the way that it just encapsulates Stoicks vastness, from his love of berk, to his family and friends. It really hits us in the feels

0:45 is where the emotions kick in. 1:57 is where the tears start falling for me because of the beautiful melody. 2:40 is where the nostalgia kicks in. HTTYD is truly one of the best animated series ever created from film, scores, to cast.
Oh god, 3:14 hit me like a truck and I don't know why, but I teared up hard. The nostalgia from the first film is like the sweetest poison. I was 12 when it came out and I loved it to death. It's such an experience, having music that can do that to you.

This scene is why How to Train Your Dragon 2 is my favorite movie of all time. People say it is the worst of the three, but the choices that were made in the movie were the choices that made the 3rd movie great. This movie has the most charter development we see in Hiccup. Stoick's death caused Hiccup to become the leader he was born to be. Kind, but stern, humble yet curious, awkward yet eager, loving but determined, a chief and yet a friend. A true son of Stoick the Vast.

Ok so after watching this for over an hour I realised that Valka’s arrow was the one that landed the closest to stoicks foot and that made me cry 10 times harder.
I've never seen a death of an animated character that has impacted me as much as Stoick currently does, and his funeral gives me goosebumps and also makes me cry. John Powell, you are god of music
I remember seeing this scene in theaters. It was pretty much silent but I’d you listened you could hear everybody sniffling. It was a shocking and heartbreaking scene and John Powell’s score just perfected it.
As a son, I don't know how many of you relate much, but the words that Hiccup spoke after the funeral hit me so strong and that's when I get overwhelmed by too much emotions. Child movies express themselves so good and really translates in such a good way how it feels to loose someone near to you! May our lost ones rest in piece at the kings table in Valhalla! We shall make you proud!❤️
For the Dancing & the Dreaming and this are among the best pieces in the movie, especially in context of the film and each other. This scene is really sad but I also think it adds a realistic effect to the film that Disney is rarely "man" enough to approach- the fact that real life doesn't have the fairy tale resurrection of the loved, lost character. Full respect to Disney, but DreamWorks scored higher with HTTYD than 90% of Disney movies. A beautiful trilogy
These films are incredibly personal and important to me, so I went into this very guarded, very much of the mindset "you better not screw around man, this isn't something I will tolerate" and you knocked it out of the freaking park. It's powerful, emotional, and has a beautiful, gentle close. I've got a whole playlist of your music up that I'm gonna go through now. So far, I have not been disappointed in the slightest. I am so unbelievably here for all of this.
HTTYD was one of those special trilogies where I grew up with the MC and like watching the second film when it came out in cinema just hit bro...such a beautiful set of films with a great message
I think that's the first time I've heard a piece of music and I've been so overwhelmed that I just sat there with tears streaming, that was truly a phenomenal version of this incredible song.
I can't imagine what hiccup feels. His father dies in the middle of a war and he can't take a long time to mourn. he could only give him a ragged ship from drago's men, because there's no time to build a ship. He also couldn't bring his father to berk.
It takes a lot to get me to cry but this...this never fails to bring back vivid memories and emotions. The HTTYD franchise is by far the most amazing and that, at least for me, will never change. Thank you so much for bringing back these amazing memories.
My heart skipped a beat when I got the notification for this video. Thank you, truly, for this soundtrack. HTTYD shaped my childhood and just listening to Stoick's funeral theme leads to a mix of tears and goosebumps....may you rest in peace, Stoick the Vast.
You made me cry during a piece that was emotional, but didnt make me cry before. This was so emotional and nostalgic and heartbreaking, this I'd truly amazing. Thank you for this arrangement.
I watched the first HTTYD movie for the first time in a crowded room, never feeling so alone in my life. The movie drew me in, and I related to Hiccup more than ever in that first viewing. I still remember to this day, how much hope this movie instilled in me as a young kid. It changed me, and made the next day better. I only just heard this version today, and I genuinely shed tears listening to it. Kudos to you Samuel, Kudos to John Powell for this amazing soundtrack, and thank you to Dreamworks for making such a beautiful trilogy. This story resonates with me, and I will always treasure it in my heart.
I honestly really needed this today. We put down our older kitty on Saturday and it still hurts. But this helped lessen the pain by giving me music to grieve with. Thank you
This is one of the most impactful funeral scenes I've ever seen. Granted, I haven't seen that many, but that doesn't change the fact that this scene is incredibly moving.
Literally everyone that I have shared this song to has cried! This piece has emotions for everyone! weather it is for the loss of a friend, father, mentor, leader to remembering the best parts of having that person in your life!
I am so proud to be apart of this fandom!!! This brought back so many memories and feelings from seeing the 1st movies for the first time to theorizing about the shows, to even meeting Dean and crying in the theater for THW. This fandom will always be apart of who I am!
I swear, had I not watched the Dragons tv show, this would not have hurt as much. Through the show you really saw Stoick's development as he embraced being a Dragon rider and his further development as Hiccup's father. When he said goodbye to Thornado, I cried. So, when this happened, me, my dad, and my mom all balled our eyes out. I don't care what people say, the shows are canon in my book that further develops not just Stoick, but all the background characters that makes the movies better because you know these characters inside and out.
I don't understand how they can't be canon. 5 years passed between the 2 movies so a lot can happen in the meantime. Maybe it's just because of the cruddy animation.
I love this remake, or what ever you call it, but I love it, I brings me right back to the movie theater when I saw it for the first time and I can just hear the line that hiccup is saying and I would like to give you a personal thank you for your amazing imagination and taste for music. Thank you and keep up the amazing work
This hit me hard. I just finish rewatching the 2nd movie yesterday. Such a touching scene. The soundtrack is everything ✨. Going to rewatch the 3rd one next week. Keep up the good work man!

I 120% agree
As soon as I saw this I was like "Oh no, Stoick's ship" and opened it in a new tab to listen to straight away. The feels. *_;-;_*
Rewatched the whole trilogy yesterday and reminded myself of how great it is. These movies were a great part of my childhood and I still love them.
As soon as I heard the first note I said, "nope," and I had to pause it. Frick man. I almost cried from listening to this. Bless your talented soul.
Every movie had an outstanding sound track its amazing what John Powell did with these movies absolutely breathtaking.
How to Train Your Dragon really knows how to capture the moment with music and really tell the story this music makes me feel sad for stoick
It's been years... Still I get goosebumps every time.
It takes a lot to get me to cry but this...this never fails to bring back vivid memories and emotions. The HTTYD franchise is by far the most amazing and that, at least for me, will never change. Thank you so much for bringing back these amazing memories.
This song actually makes me realize how much I miss my childhood and that I would give anything to get it back.
My heart skipped a beat when I got the notification for this video.
Thank you, truly, for this soundtrack. HTTYD shaped my childhood and just listening to Stoick's funeral theme leads to a mix of tears and goosebumps....may you rest in peace, Stoick the Vast.
Did not think I'd be crying this morning. This is the only song that makes me cry every single time...
"Stoick put the king in vi-king."
You made me cry during a piece that was emotional, but didnt make me cry before. This was so emotional and nostalgic and heartbreaking, this I'd truly amazing. Thank you for this arrangement.
It must have been heartbreaking and hard for Hiccup to lose his father but thats how he became a chief, friend, boyfriend, -_- and leader.
*how to cause tears with a single piece of music*
This whole song is amazing, but 1:58 to 2:39 ….. there isn't a word to describe the ethereal beauty of this part.
Very emotional..this is the only animation that made me shed a tear so far.....
I honestly really needed this today. We put down our older kitty on Saturday and it still hurts. But this helped lessen the pain by giving me music to grieve with. Thank you
I can't stop hearing Hiccup say *"I'm Sorry Dad"* right after it hits 1:03 😭
this hit right in the heart. I remember tearing up at that scene when I watched the movie, and even now it still brings tears into my eyes
"You have the heart of a chief and the soul of a dragon. Only you can bring our worlds together, that is who you are son."
~Valka
This is one of the most impactful funeral scenes I've ever seen. Granted, I haven't seen that many, but that doesn't change the fact that this scene is incredibly moving.
I lost my grandmother a few weeks ago, and this music hits me way harder than I thought
Literally everyone that I have shared this song to has cried!
This piece has emotions for everyone! weather it is for the loss of a friend, father, mentor, leader to remembering the best parts of having that person in your life!
with this score in my ears my creativity goes up to infinity
I am so proud to be apart of this fandom!!! This brought back so many memories and feelings from seeing the 1st movies for the first time to theorizing about the shows, to even meeting Dean and crying in the theater for THW. This fandom will always be apart of who I am!
You're Dragon will make a fine addition to my collection
No other animated film would dare to kill off a character like that. HTTYD is a one in a million franchise.
I still to this day have never cried as hard with ANYTHING film related than I did with this scene.
I definitely get both when I listen to this. Absolutely beautiful
I am so emotional right now. WOW!!! This was truly a remastered masterpiece!!!
This is why I follow you, these are absolute works of art.
Same. Amazing.
I started crying once the arrow scene started. I couldn’t help it, that part was just so powerful. Great job.
this soundtrack never fails to amaze me❤️
This hits especially hard after learning someone you knew in real life passed
That was beautiful! 😭😭I love HTTYD so much, its my entire childhood
I thought the original version was hard hitting......
You made me smile and cry at the same time with this
Thank you
Whhhyyyyy do you have to keep messing with my feelings like this!!!! Amazing work, I'm crying as always.
I love this remake, or what ever you call it, but I love it, I brings me right back to the movie theater when I saw it for the first time and I can just hear the line that hiccup is saying and I would like to give you a personal thank you for your amazing imagination and taste for music.
Thank you and keep up the amazing work
This perfectly captures how anyone would feel when losing someone close to them.
I am so happy you did this. This is by far the most powerful song I have ever heard.
Epic and emotional as it was in the film I love it! 😁
This version is better then the original. I've checked and now I confirm.
This hit me hard. I just finish rewatching the 2nd movie yesterday. Such a touching scene. The soundtrack is everything ✨. Going to rewatch the 3rd one next week. Keep up the good work man!
the picture near the end of the video with Stoic in it just really hits me right in the feels...
Stoick thought he would only see Valka again in Valhalla. Now she's the one who will have to go to Valhalla to see him again.
Not only did you keep the bagpipes, you extended them. I love you.
