Hey guys! Glad you enjoyed the video. In the case of the guitars, mixing is still a bit of a struggle, especially with trying some new style every week. The more I raised the volume of the guitars, the more they didn't vibe with me. I put them back enough to add to the vibe of each song, but only as an incredibly minor background instrument. That being said, with better mixing, I probably could have made them prominent with everything else. I expect to return to this and other songs with iffy mixing and redo them. That's why this one and a few others are only up on bandcamp and not spotify/other sites. Hope you all liked it nonetheless!
You should do a video on writing a melodic death metal song. That'd be really cool. Expecially since there's a lot of great bands that utilize the style.
Some game over themes are much longer than others. The Golden Sun one comes to mind, which is pretty much a full length song that will play indefinitely if you let it...
This song reminds me a lot like one of those Fire & Ice Galaxies in Super Mario Galaxy. When you get to a different part of the level, the dynamic of the level changes, much like how the melodies are the same, but have different feels in your song Fire & Ice. Keep being creative and awesome!
If the songs are otherwise identical (i.e. same structure and tempo) then yes the game can indeed transition between the two based on context. For example, the fire/ice cavern in _Crypt of the NecroDancer:_ the music dynamically switches between "hot" and "cold" based on whether you are in the "hot" or "cold" sections of the dungeon.
Well I look at each character's arcs, and see if it would be interesting and meaningful to the story for them to die either after their arc or during it. Now if I were in charge of a JRPG where players would be more attached to different party members than others, I'd have a sort of affection system where the one with the highest affection takes a blow meant for the protagonist, and dies. Later on, when the heroes get revenge, I'd incorporate the dead character's theme into part of the boss battle theme.
My most recent side project is an idea for a JRPG. The secondary protagonist wants nothing more than to be a hero and protect others from villains. He gets chosen by the Brand of an ancient race of immortals. The Brand gives him the power to defeat the current threat, but secretly it's eating at his soul. Halfway through, you're sent forward in time (far enough that nothing can be done to change it) and learn that this friend is fated to become corrupted and rule the land as a horrible tyrant for thousands of years. When you return to the present, you have to tell your friend what you learned. The second half of the adventure involves the party helping him deal with the fact that he'll eventually become what he hates the most. You see this kid torn between his dreams and reality, and his slow descent into insanity. You defeat the main threat in the present, and you all travel to the future to take down the evil king. But you're just going to have to deal with the fact that because you kept him alive because he was still good and you needed him to save the world now, millions will suffer later. Of course, the postgame involves a side quest where he asks you what should happen now. You have the option to kill him then to save the future. :D
The reason I suggested this was because of the many locations in games that are like Hailfire Peaks from Banjo-Kazooie. Are there any Earth and wind- based locations in games?
Your creativity grows fast. Great song and playing as usual! Are those new guitars? The seven string’s finish is gorgeous! Greeting from Ukraine Shady!
Thank you very much! Those are my older guitars. I love them, but I'm not a huge fan of the pick ups. I'm planning to get them replaced one day so I can use them more often :)
Bad mixing on my end! I will get a re-master of this one day so you guys can hear what it was really meant to sound like. I'm glad you enjoyed it otherwise!
Nice How-to, Shady! I absolutely love this type of ... biome? i guess is the right word. It would be awesome to see you do a how-to for some kind of Mechanical/Industrial Area and/or a location with a futuristic atmosphere.
I feel like this would suit if you looped the ice part in an ice section of the game and then when you pull a gem or some sort of artefact out of a pedestal you get pushed back, starting the following cutscene: You are lying on the floor, in first person your character opens their eyes to see flames exploding out of the pedestal. You try to get up to replace the artefact, but flames lash at you seemingly telling you “STAY *DOWN!* You’re not stopping this!” So you stay on the ground. The ice changes from a pale blue into a bright red, and the area becomes hotter. Suddenly, the entire cave and area around you collapses into water. You struggle to swim out, but before you can even try to take a breath, it all turns to steam. Somehow, you’re unscathed by instantly boiling water. There is powerful magic here. You look up from where you’re lying, and you see the last of the flames emit a massive fire monster, with a dragon body transforming into a humans torso and head, sort of like a centaur. You must defeat this fire breathing human-dragon hybrid and bring the land back to justice. Can you do it?
YOOOOO, i would absolutely play the hell out of whatever hypothetical video game you're composing all this music for. this past month especially has been full of quality content where you flex your skills and branch out more and it's really highlighting even more that you have a strong understanding of everything that goes into making specific types of songs what they are. i hope your non-guitar stuff is getting as much recognition as your guitar stuff because you definitely deserve it.
Surprised nobody's mentioned Celeste's "Heart of the Mountain" yet. Gave me huge vibes of that track. Nice job. (I know Celeste came out after this was released, but was the first thing that popped into my head)
Even with the sub-par mixing this is probably one of my favorite theme's you've done. I don't know exactly why but the fire part was incredible. Can't wait to hear it remastered.
After hearing the little clip of the song on Twitter, I knew it was gonna be amazing! I love these kinds of songs that transition to different themes. Awesome job Shady, I love it!!!!! \m/
To be fair, This sounded like a piece out of a popular anime, and i'm pretty impressed with this song. It got juuuust the right amount of chill in the beginning, before heating up midway. That was indeed a hot beat.
Hey dude, I just discovered your channel, and it is incredible! All these challenges you make are super enjoyable to watch, and its really fun to watch it from the very creation to the final product, I really hope you grow faster, good luck :D
Even more location-bases themes would be awesome! Since I started writing my own music, choosing correct instruments for the feel I want to convey have been really hard for me, but I'm starting to learn that a lot from your videos. Thank you for what you're doing! :)
So I only recently found your channel as I was looking up resources and tutorials for the game I’m currently working on with a small team. I love the videos I’ve seen so far and they’ve been a great bit of inspiration. Could you do some Medieval Tavern backtracks?
Um, actually it's For The Damaged Coda by Blonde Redhead. It just so happened that it was used in Rick and Morty as Evil Morty's Theme. (I tried to make something cringey funny. God help me.)
As per usual, you did an amazing Job, Shady! I'd love it if you could walk us through major and minor scales and go over theory! Many people lvoe watching your videos, and want to do something like this for themselves, but, don't know much theory. Cheers
Have you seen the Seth Everman video "music genre: video game 2"? It's more of a pastiche than your stuff, but it goes into some of the same ideas as this video.
When talking about location theme songs: How about a dwarven fortress (not the game) theme song? You know, when you see this beast of a door in the mountains and decide to go in, and the epic chorus starts and you're just like "woooow... *mind=blown*" With all the big rooms, gold, diamants, epic machines and so on... I think this could make a nice theme song...
Impressive work as usual. Still don't know how you do it so consistently. XD The 'fire' part was a great success, but I was less convinced by the 'ice' part in terms of the impression it gave... It sounds great, it just doesn't really say 'ice' to me, you know? XD
A forest theme would be a perfect step after these latest videos. Maybe a desert theme? Night theme? Overworld/main theme? Super sad depressing death theme?
I got an idea and I hope it hasn't been suggested yet. What do you think of making a theme song that feels like a Pokemon battle? Man, it'd be phenomenal if you made a song that resembles a Wild battle, Trainer battle, Gym battle, Villain battle, Elite Four and a Champion battle. It's a tad too wishful but it'd be helluva awesome.
I've started working on writing symphonic metal with a heavy Victorian emphasis (think Emilie Autumn, but metal), and I'm curious how you would approach a Victorian symphonic metal song.
Did you have a New Guitar Day recently? Didn't see the blue guitar in your videos yet. I usually only see you playing the guitar with bat inlays. :D Great video as always!
I think you should try to experiment with a melody only for the ice level, a solid and intense beat for the fire and maybe have the two come together in a boss fight or final stage of the level (Like Koume and Kotake)
What about making the fire part faster (Something around 160-180 BPM)? It felt like it was the one thing missing, but maybe it was supposed to be more of a "background"/"Overworld" type fire music. Doubling up the speedo seems like it'd be overkill but perhaps that works too.
It was a classic case of "Shady's Bad Mixing". Happens every once in awhile. I will get it remastered when I get the chance! Hope you enjoyed the song otherwise!
Mmmmh. If i might, i'd suggest a pretty specific theme. Imagine a disturbed character, like a really mad one, but not like a berserker, more like a psycho, a silent mad man. That is, until you consider his actual story and background. So, kinda like an anti-hero. Does it sounds interesting to you?
*pan shot of party gathered by campfire* Voice of hero, introspective: "How many kelvins did this melody give us?" *silhouette of villain* Voice of hero, foreboding: "What a hot beat." *title shot, opening credits*

You may need to write counter point to make the guitars fit in and stand out. Just a thought.
You should do a video on writing a melodic death metal song. That'd be really cool. Expecially since there's a lot of great bands that utilize the style.
do a black metal song
if this guy ever makes a game i bet the soundtrack would be cool
Radical Dash YOU *THINK?*
It would be LEGENDARY
Radical Dash watch setheverman game music genre 2 and 1
Definitely
It may surpass undertales ost
Turns out it was "cool as hell"
ba-dum-tss
Ha, two puns in one. Perfect!
omg. 2 puns in one. u didnt. u didnt just invent the best thing ev- WHO AM I KIDDING U DID
jeenius
What about a “game over theme”?
Although that would probably be too short of a song, but it’d still sound cool.
This could be a fun one! I'll write it down. Thanks for the suggestion :)
Some game over themes are much longer than others.
The Golden Sun one comes to mind, which is pretty much a full length song that will play indefinitely if you let it...
@@KuraIthys or maybe Determination of Undertale (but that's more a loop :/)
This song reminds me a lot like one of those Fire & Ice Galaxies in Super Mario Galaxy. When you get to a different part of the level, the dynamic of the level changes, much like how the melodies are the same, but have different feels in your song Fire & Ice.

Celeste - Heart of the Mountain
How to: Make an Emotional Death Theme
those moments where that beloved character dies
you know, like Aerith
or Tybalt Leftpaw T.T
As someone who loves killing off my characters, I envision a music box lullaby version of the character's theme.
How can you do this?!
Your absolute evil, and that is beautiful.
My most recent side project is an idea for a JRPG. The secondary protagonist wants nothing more than to be a hero and protect others from villains. He gets chosen by the Brand of an ancient race of immortals. The Brand gives him the power to defeat the current threat, but secretly it's eating at his soul. RPG town/village/city song next!
Oooooh that's a good one! Added to the list!
The fucking part where he carries the keyboard out of the room killed me
So the next one will be theme of Earth and Wind?
The reason I suggested this was because of the many locations in games that are like Hailfire Peaks from Banjo-Kazooie. Are there any Earth and wind- based locations in games?
Wind Waker's final two dungeons, the Earth and Wind temples
That's the closest example I can think of.
Or bismuth and radon?
*but it all changed when the fire nation attacked*
don’t give me ideas for torture i’ve seen a video game about a murderous roomba
I guess you could call this...
A Song of Ice and Fire?
:3
that transition was like flying from mount lanayru all the way to mount eldin
Your creativity grows fast. Great song and playing as usual!
Are those new guitars? The seven string’s finish is gorgeous!
Greeting from Ukraine Shady!
Thank you very much! Those are my older guitars. I love them, but I'm not a huge fan of the pick ups. I'm planning to get them replaced one day so I can use them more often :)
Shady Cicada what are your preferences when it comes to pickups?
Dude, this was hella sick. I just wish I coulda heard the guitar better. The clean was hard to hear, and the distorted was almost impossible to hear
Bad mixing on my end! I will get a re-master of this one day so you guys can hear what it was really meant to sound like. I'm glad you enjoyed it otherwise!
Ayyyy i suggested this
How about a haunted forest type of theme?
Thanks for the awesome idea! And uh...thanks for the second awesome idea! Haunted Forest would be awesome to try out. On the list it goes!
Nice How-to, Shady! I absolutely love this type of ... biome? i guess is the right word.
It would be awesome to see you do a how-to for some kind of Mechanical/Industrial Area and/or a location with a futuristic atmosphere.
I've been meaning to try mechanical for quite awhile, so you may see that in the future! Glad you liked the video!
This is the new Todoroki Shouto theme ^^
_ha._
I seriously thought the video was going to be about him at first! Weird
PLEASE make this a separate official song and give it the title it deserves! It's an earworm...
I feel like this would suit if you looped the ice part in an ice section of the game and then when you pull a gem or some sort of artefact out of a pedestal you get pushed back, starting the following cutscene:

4:27 I think you’re missing some of that guitar in there. I hear no guitar. Well I hear some lead. But I hear no rhythm
Not-too-great mixing on my part. I'm planning to remaster it one day and then hopefully you guys can hear what I was going for. My apologies!
Really good song, good job !
Maybe a Viking theme song next time :D
Surprised nobody's mentioned Celeste's "Heart of the Mountain" yet. Gave me huge vibes of that track. Nice job.

Dude this song ROCKS!
That was amazing man, I felt like I learnt something from watching this! Also IS THAT A NEW SCHECTER
Awesome job man! I’m never disappointed when I see how much you improve and expand your horizons with every vid 😁 Keep reelin’ ‘em in man!
That was very soundtrack like, man!! :D I really like this!
Pretty late. Actually 2 years late, but I like the detail of changing your shirt to mach fire and ice.
Shady: sk sk skr
me: best youtuber theme 2016-2019
After hearing the little clip of the song on Twitter, I knew it was gonna be amazing! I love these kinds of songs that transition to different themes. Awesome job Shady, I love it!!!!! \m/

Hey dude, I just discovered your channel, and it is incredible! All these challenges you make are super enjoyable to watch, and its really fun to watch it from the very creation to the final product, I really hope you grow faster, good luck :D
gave me chills
Simply beautiful. I need to start being more creative and stylish in my music themes.
Fantastic video as always Shady! Nice 7-string Schecter, keep up the great work my man!
Temperate Titan Thats a 6 string guitar actually lol?
He played two guitars friend. The blue Schecter was a seven string and the red Schecter was a six string.
The evil morty at the beginning 😂😂
Perhaps a name like "Dormant" would work for this, as the chill, mellow beginning only hints at a daring escape from an erupting volcano.
Oh no your ice melted :(
Now this is just fire!
Well done! I am loving your videos and want to do the stuff you do. Keep on rockin'!!
How to make a main menu theme?
Even more location-bases themes would be awesome!
Since I started writing my own music, choosing correct instruments for the feel I want to convey have been really hard for me, but I'm starting to learn that a lot from your videos.
Thank you for what you're doing! :)

Could you do some Medieval Tavern backtracks?
Evil morty theme?
lol that's exactly what i was thinking
Yeah, probably a coincidence but it sounded EXACTLY like it.
Um, actually it's For The Damaged Coda by Blonde Redhead. It just so happened that it was used in Rick and Morty as Evil Morty's Theme. (I tried to make something cringey funny. God help me.)

Is he the one with the keyboard! I think I've come by his videos here and there. Love his stuff!
I love the fire theme, especially the minute 3:16! ;0;
DUDE WE HAVE THE SAME KEYBOARD WHAAAA (but seriously your guitar playing is amazing!)
And this is why I turned on the notification bell.
2 seconds in and you have my thumbs up!
Kinda reminds me of phendrana drifts and magmor caverns themes from metroid prime. Nice work.
When talking about location theme songs: How about a dwarven fortress (not the game) theme song?

So cool song.😍
That part where you transitioned back and forth, step 5, was awesome! Maybe make a whole song like that? Or use it in a song? Mebe, just suggestions.
YO For the Damaged Coda intro gets my like and sub
Frikken love your stuff... so glad I subscribed _\m/
Nice, finally a song Todoroki can enjoy
thANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS
These are getting more and more abstract as time goes on... :D
Impressive work as usual. Still don't know how you do it so consistently. XD
The 'fire' part was a great success, but I was less convinced by the 'ice' part in terms of the impression it gave...
It sounds great, it just doesn't really say 'ice' to me, you know? XD
great composer!
as a musician its heaven as an mixing engineer it hurts to listen
Love all ur videos dude especially ur Botw beast ganon.🐶
You're hot and you're cold you're yes and you're no
You're also very talented it was great as always
I love this channel, hace que componer una canción parezca fácil.
A forest theme would be a perfect step after these latest videos. Maybe a desert theme? Night theme? Overworld/main theme? Super sad depressing death theme?
This takes me back to Super Mario Galaxy
Awesome
A perfect fit for a level where it's a volcano in ice.
This song sounds like something right out of Runescape
I love it!
I got an idea and I hope it hasn't been suggested yet. What do you think of making a theme song that feels like a Pokemon battle? Great song! You are extremely talented! Could you a frost/winter theme song next time?
I think you should try to experiment with a melody only for the ice level, a solid and intense beat for the fire and maybe have the two come together in a boss fight or final stage of the level (Like Koume and Kotake)

free replay button 1:36
Oof that Evil Morty theme at the start!
This seems like it belongs in FFXIV sooo good!!!!!
What is the Chord progression that Cicada used at the beginning of the video?
I'm no kelvin, but I give a like. And subscribe. Great vid bro
What a hot beat! HAHA
The fire theme sounds like a royal army is heroically charging into battle
Is this just my headphones or did youtube compress this so much that guitar isn't audible at all?
It was a classic case of "Shady's Bad Mixing". Happens every once in awhile. I will get it remastered when I get the chance! Hope you enjoyed the song otherwise!
Cool! Any chance of a first dungeon theme?
Mmmmh. If i might, i'd suggest a pretty specific theme. Imagine a disturbed character, like a really mad one, but not like a berserker, more like a psycho, a silent mad man. That is, until you consider his actual story and background. So, kinda like an anti-hero. Does it sounds interesting to you?
What'd you use for the piano? Is that default from the keyboard or a plug-in?
Also fire themes have lots of sitar too
Can you do how to make trip hop? Massive attack, portishead for example
please, make a full version of for the damaged coda
Are your Bias tones on the Tonecloud? If so, what are they called? I'd love to noodle around with them!
*pan shot of party gathered by campfire*
Voice of hero, introspective: "How many kelvins did this melody give us?"
*silhouette of villain*
Voice of hero, foreboding: "What a hot beat."
*title shot, opening credits*
These arrangements are more lit than some actual soundtrack
*Todoroki intensifies*
It would’ve been cool if you had a leitmotif for ice and then played it in reverse for the fire part of the song to show that their opposites
hey is that a casio wk-200? if so i have the same keyboard!
Is it possible to have this song in Spotify? thanks
0:01 DUDE DID YOU JUST PLAYED EVIL MORTY'S THEME!?
Factory industrial area next??
What is a good minor scale to use?
lol did you play the rick and morty dark realization song in the beginning?
