One of the legends of the NHL, the epitome of the original six franchises, but, most notably, the Chicago Blackhawks. The Golden Jet and his ability to score goals made for a thrilling era of North American sports at a time when things were a little simpler, at least. Then, Bobby Hull went to the now-defunct World Hockey League with the Winnepeg Jets. But the legacy of Chicago is what most will remember about Mr. Hull. May he rest in peace. Thank you for what you did for hockey and pro sports.

Bobby Hull was my hero but Gordie Howe was most definitely one of the all-time greats. Many years ago I had the great fortune of having dinner with Gordie. A company I worked for was doing business with a company Gordie represented as a celebrity spokesman. It was a fantastic evening I will never forget. He was the nicest and most gracious guy you could imagine. He answered all our questions and told us lots of great hockey stories. He wasn't as big as I thought but his hands were huge, especially his fingers. They were like sausages.

Bobby gave me one of his game-used sticks, a Northland Pro, all wooden, huge hook on the blade would be totally illegal in today's NHL. I keep it in bubble wrap, only brought it out when the Hawks were in the finals , helped us win the Cup in 2010-13-15, had it right by my side with my Rosary watching the games! I have been a Habs fan since I was three years old( almost seventy now). When Montreal played the Hawks I hoped that Bobby wasn't in the lineup for any reason. everyone please judge him for his one ice performance not what may have gone on off ice. Hull does not get the credit he deserves. He single handedly raised the salaries of every professional hockey player in 1972 when he gave the WHL instant credibility with his 1 million dollar signing. Immediatelythe flood gates opened with exodus of players from the NHL to sign huge salaries in WHA. At the same time NHL teams and owners had to open their wallets to keep players in their league. All salaries instantly inflated. There was no one player at that time who was not thankful to Hull. Funny how no one seems to mention this hmm.

Looks like everyone just wanted to let him score #51 without any defense whatsoever.

growing up in Chicago 50s 60s found out about hockey listening to it on the radio. got out of the service in '67, we bought seats from a scalper 2nd balcony 2nd row on the goal line, the end where the Hawks came out. many great memories watching him wind up behind his own net and fly down the left wing and let go with that wicked slap shot . he was one of a kind, he played the game the right way...RIP Robert Marvin Hull

Personally, I believe the Golden Jet predated the legendary, Bobby Orr, as the 1st, truly modern superstar in the NHL. He had the shot, the speed, the physique, the looks, the charisma...that package, he carried into and through the post-Original 6 & WHA. Not only was he the biggest signing to the newly formed, rival league, he gave them some legitimacy. His line with Swedish stars, Anders Hedberg & Ulf Nilsson, brought a dynamic, European style of offenive influence, to the North American style of traditional hockey. Along with the Nordiques, Stastny Brothers & the merging Edmonton Oilers young superstars, they influenced NHL, lifting their dark ages game into a new era. Has the National Hockey League ever publicly commended the maverick league for their much needed, kick in the *ss❓️The parallels between the merger & influence of the ABA into the NBA, bringing playground/streetball/Show-Time to the boring NBA, can't be overlooked...
🏒 In September, 1974, the WHA had their training camp for their Team Canada and series against the Soviets. It was held in Edmonton & I got several players autographs & photos, including Bobby Hull's. Another piece of memorabilia, is 1962 print of Hull & "Boom Boom" Geoffrion, commemorating the 1st time two 50 goal scorers faced one another.
There's no question, Bobby had his personal demons & challenges...unfortunately, his family was affected.

Yes #9 did predate #4 as the 1st superstar. This is from someone who took slap shots from #4 in 1970 at his sports camp in Orillia.
