Had the Spectraphon for a couple weeks now, just watched this again and it makes so much more sense now. This vid should be required watching along with the manual!
Spectraphon is incredible. It is (imo) the most interesting and powerful take on additive synthesis I know of in eurorack, and even exceeds other additive soft synths like NI razor and UVI falcon (both of which I also love) in the number of spectra, the data involved in each, and the simplicity of the controls. Really an amazing design. Kudos to Make Noise and Tom Erbe, I think it’s already a classic.
This is really one of the most fascinating modules ever in Eurorack history, imho. It's so many things at once while representing your Make Noise core-DNA. A truly amazing piece of music equipment.
That Finale was interdimensional magic I have watched all or most MN Vids of yours and you always seem to have mastered the module on spotlight Here you seem to be still wrapping your mind around this beast While still showcasing your Mastery Cant wait to experience whatever else you will come up with SPECTRAPHON Stellar Stuff Guys
Beautifully insane. It’s like Make Noise has tapped into my psyche and created modules that are in sync with my brainwaves. I’m hoping this full system that you are using in all these recent spectraphon videos becomes available for purchase as a complete unit. This is the dream synth.
Thanks for this video, helped me a lot to understand the manual. I am using a VCVRack patch with a Hetrick Phasor Burst Generator into a Phasor ->Clock module to create 64 clock pulses and a synced phasor ramp to scan through individual SurgeXT Wavetable VCO wavetables. Playing a constant pitch through to Spectraphon SAM A, tune it, then create an Array using the 64 pulses to capture one complete scan through a wavetable. Seems to work quite nicely. Same technique works for capturing other moving timbres.
I was not expecting to get Spectraphon until sometime next year, but... (Here's the bad news) My local vendor (Ringo Store, in Korea) is closing down their modular section, because there just aren't enough sales to support it. Since I buy so much from them, they are kindly holding one of their last Spectraphons for me at about 70% of the usual retail. That price was too good to pass up, so I switched up my list. I will get the Spectraphon at the beginning of November, so I am watching all the videos again now. So, making arrays. I can input an audio source and create an array in Sam, then switch to Sao and the oscillator will create harmonics around that array? Holy shit, that is f***ing amazing. This will be my first complex oscillator, and it does the most mind-bending stuff. One year ago, I had just the 0-Coast and Maths in my MN range. Now I have 0-Ctrl, XPO, Qpas, Xpan, Morphagene, and Mimeophon, and I will have Spectraphon in a few weeks. My MI/Intellijel/Erica rack sections are great, I love them, but there is something about my MN modules that just feel more comfortable and instinctive. I never know where I'm going with them, but I have a far more comfortable journey getting there.
What technique was used to create the default array? I have been experimenting massively but i cannot seem to get it to create a decent array of my own yet.
finally, can we get some input on what happens while clocking thru a chosen array? If I understand correctly it sounds like there are 1024 snapshots of the harmonics in the array and that the clock will cycle/loop thru them . , what if you did a manual spectra capture but only clocked 6 times , does that mean spectra snapshots 6-1024 are just repeats until you lop back?
also at 10:36 to manually clock spectra captures into the current array , , you held shiftA then tapped array and the light kept blinking , what's the trick there? 9 times out to 10 mine just does gthe one second capture and stops blinking , best I can tell its hold shiftA and the REALLY QUICKLY TAP THE ARRAY BUTTON , is that right ? yes I waited 3 seconds
I wish there was a way to show you the current array..... shiftA+shiftB increments the array and displays the binary number of the next one , but the only way to know the CURRENT array IS TO DO THAT 16 TIMES KEEPING TRACK FROM 0 UP - sigh
This CV Bus has a voltage math circuit on the left end, similar to that of the 0-Coast. It will ship in a case with the new 4 Zone Bus Board at the end of the summer.
What happens if the fundamental pitch of the sound is changing during recording? Is the fundamental automatically tuned to a constant value in the spectra’s of the array?
Changes in the fundamental of the source sound will be interpreted as changes in the harmonic spectrum, unless you also change the setting of Slide to match
@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC that would finally mean, every spectrum in such an array could have a different fundamental frequency. And by stepping slowly trough the spectra’s you could play a melody. But this also would mean, this oscillator has no constant pitch. That’s hard to handle. Better would be to remove pitch information from the array and make the fundamental the same (auto-tune the array like Roland’s VariPhrase )…

This module is already a legendary creation. Nice work!

Thanks for watching! Yes it's fun to be in the place of incomplete knowledge with this one :) We'll continue to patch!!

Thanks, just the vid I was looking for! Knowing that slide and focus affect the array creation is a big takeaway I'm looking forward to exploring
Have fun!!!

Happy patching!!
Perfect!!! I’m diving into arrays this weekend. Loving the Spectraphon so far, well worth the wait.
Happy patching!!
It's like a Telharmonic on STEROIDS. Very interesting sounds very versatile. I wish I had the room in my rack. Thanks for the video.
I just got mine a couple of days ago, and this is some helpful advice!
Glad it's helpful! Happy patching, enjoy the Spectraphon!
Yes , the manual is quite oblique, this video helped a lot
i apreciate all your videos for my MN modules. Thank you

this is like an advanced math class. ty for this, also please drop more mn tie dyes !

absolutely awesome!

really would just like to see a vid with a clocked Mimeophon

Is that a new version of CV bus with mono / sum input on the left side? 👀👀👀

@@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC it looks 2 or 4 hp short?... 🤔 prototype? or .... oh wait. its slotted!

@@BurkhardusX The Array does not contain pitch information at all, only harmonics (integer multiples of whatever fundamental is set at playback).

ok nw im twice as motivated to buy this module
💙👍💙
did anyone flash on 'Intergalatic' by the Beastie Boys while listening to this vid? 2:40
Holy shit
Sorry this is just so sick looking forward to trying it out!!
Sing it for me HAL ;-)
Dude wat
And... I have a headache.
