I have the 85" QN90D and use movie mode for most content. Color seems pretty accurate and much brighter than filmmaker mode. Filmmaker mode looks nice it pitch black room but kills the brightness full screen "pop" that movie mode provides. Especially full screen bright scenes with lots of white or sun blast.
I got the Samsung 85” QN90D for $1,540 through Samsung a couple weeks ago after multiple discounts and price matches. Incredible TV, also with its gaming features, especially Game Motion Plus. I wasn’t even considering it a few months ago. Thought I would get the TCL QM8, mostly due to price difference. Once this TV came down to a competitive price, it was a no-brainer for me. Feels like the hidden gem my Samsung KS8000 was in 2016. Only knocks I can give it is there is a bit more blooming in game mode, but everything works so well I can look past it. Also, the TV is dimmer with static tone mapping, but switch it to active and it comes to life. Only downside is it clips whites above 2,000 nits. If you’re watching “normal” content below that, I keep it on active, and looks much better to me.
Thank you for another excellent video review of three of the hottest and most important TVs for the 2024 model your. You explain technical video details in an easy to follow and understand! Thank you for linking to us in your introduction for your referrals to further review and possibly purchase Sony's New Flagship BRAVIA 9 QD MiniLED TVs.
I tried a Bravia recent like Bravia 8 I think it's call A80L - it irritated my eyes, and I got tired of trying to adjust it. Then Bravia 3, good for the price but was not satisfied it was much better than my previous Panasonic Plasma. Then Panasonic mini LED came out, I tried that and loved it, but could not take FireTV interface. Panasonic's colors are maybe better or as good as Sony. Then I thought when I was in the showroom the hottest tv for a decent price, LG C4 I thought it would blow me away, sorry again like the A80L hurt my eyes and had to adjust the picture all the time, doesn't look like in the showroom - when it's good it's real good, otherwise not and colors not like Sony. Finally got Bravia 7, google tv is the best interface, Sony remote is classy compared to the stupid LG remote. for my eyes and taste, Sony is king, Panasonic would be around the same but unfortunately they partnered with Amazon. I'm not a fan of Samsung but it's certainly not bad if you like bright but not accurate colors. All 65" TVs, I have another Bravia 3 smaller screen size which I'm happy with.
Detail processing does not seem to be part of the equations lately. Meaning the vaunted xr clear and such. You could see this 90d falling behind, it seemed, watching this on a phone. Regardless, Samsungs not only do not highlight/darken but also outright delete them completely. Oled included. Even the qm7 has far better details. Look at, say, the whale tail splash or any bubble scene just off the top of my head(so many vids). Those Particles/details do not appear to be gone from less processing, but if you zoom in to see why, particle effects are actually completely gone with solid background color. There is a scrubbing effect without a doubt. Perhaps tvs are all so good that it's a bonus, in that you get a dessert and to eat it with xr clear, but either way, you have ice cream.
I don't know about that - I'm a stickler for those sort of details and 6 feet away from 65" TVs I don't notice the "better details". Although I do know that both Sony XR and LG G4 has implemented over sharpening/brightening of fine details that cannot be disabled so is that what you're referring to? When comparing the G4 to S95D to A95L, I didn't see a big difference beyond those artifacts. At the shootout the judges commented they liked that extra "pop" despite being less accurate LOL so it appears people love it!
@stopthefomo Thanks, that gives me a solid idea of the better detail and how large I can go for a bedroom tv! The smoothing I mentioned was a different thing entirely. Sorry, I was a bit vague. Referred to whisperstatus newer b7 vs qn90d vid. They were just the easiest to spot examples off the top of my head. It is most relevant with particle like details. Like at the end of the scene of the whale jumping in the air where there's water raining all over the place. Too many of those droplets are actually completely missing on the samsung. Drizzle vs rain. Even better go to the beer in the glass with the foamy bubbles line and zoom max on both tvs. All the bubbles are all still very clear on the b7 where there are quite literally many, many bubbles completely missing on the samsung. This goes past sony adding a highlight. Not a vague outline, faint smear, slightly darker area, but poof like magic gone. Look at the edges of the bubble line. Unfortunately, one can't unsee how many are missing. Most would just assume its sony processing better with detail and look no further, but those how do you say particles or bubbles are actually scrubbes right out of the image. If the samsung image is equal to the baseline given in the data and doing nothing, then the b7 would have literally naught to pick up. Perhaps you can discern better why this is happening. It's like it renders a certain amount, then treats the rest as background noise and removes them. I am no expert and can only describe, but perhaps kg was on to something saying the s90d seems to have an always-on function smoothing detail away. Hope this explains better what I am seeing.
To add to FOMO’s point about upgrading your TV before buying the PS5 Pro, this is especially true with a Samsung. With Game Motion Plus, you can run quality mode graphics at 30fps and get very close to a 60fps experience. This is essentially what the PS5 Pro is offering, unless you’re a ray tracing aficionado. I can’t believe how over looked this feature is after experiencing it. Truly is a game changer!
It is just simply unbelievable that the Bravia 7 has 90% of the picture value of the Bravia 9. I just simply cannot fathom then, why is Sony selling the Bravia 9 basically double the costs of the Bravia 7 just you can gain that extra 10% of better picture quality???
@@almir908 Which they did - the X93L had better viewing angles and better antireflection. Shame cause the Bravia 7 would have been even better with the same features.
Looks like we are splitting hairs here. Either of these would be great. I would go Bravia 7 because of Dolby Vision. No wrong choice here. I went 77" Bravia 8.
I have a 55" Sony x900e. I want to upgrade to a 65". I am really torn between the qn90d and B7. I mainly watch movies and Football. Some off angle viewing but not my seat! Lol Do you have a recommendation between the 2?
I went from x900h to Bravia 9 and it was a huge upgrade. I still have the x900h in another room and I have a hard time watching it now. The B7 is going to give you that same feeling too. It’s a huge jump from the x900e especially going up in size too.
Hey fomo..... so im new to the channel and you helped me with a question I had during your live, thank you! I do have 1 more question.... the best tv i have ever bought was my 5yr old 55 inch vizio p55-f1 that I have now it's a 56 zone full array and I want to buy the Samsung s90d 55 inch now. WOULD I NOTICE A JUMP IN PICTURE QUALITY FROM THE VIZIO P55-F1 IVE BEEN WATCHING FOR THE LAST 5YRS? THANKS MY FRIEND
YES, contrast is significantly superior to the Vizio with HDR movies on Netflix, Disney, Blu Ray, you'll love it! Gaming on any console is so much better as well. It's currently $1300 howl.link/veswqsbh8glur on Best Buy but will drop in price so if you get it now, they will price adjust it when it drops on BF
QN90D is the better TV for color accuracy near black - QM8 gets reddish orange at lowlight and that can't be fixed in calibration. For sports, QM8 is the brighter more impactful TV but for gaming QN90D gives you more options/features.
@@stopthefomo In terms of the 'warmer' colors, how would you compare QN90D and Bravia 7? I'm quite sensitive to pictures with overly warm overtones and it seems like a lot of these new TVs have that issue [at least, with settings they show in vids hah].
Dynamic mode is the most popular TV setting on Samsung. In brighter rooms, Vivid mode does improve contrast legibility of scores/details that's why many like it more
I watch a lot of sports on an upper tier television and trust me there is no one answer and no television is going to figure it out for you automatically- every feed is different and if you want the best picture you are going to have to be willing to adjust each broadcast individually and even the settings within the settings can make a big difference. There are even differences in the way the broadcast looks streamed through my Fire Stick or through the native tuner on the TV and friends with Apple TV swear it's the best. And then there are the 4K and HDR sports broadcasts requiring their own adjustments...
@stopthefomo If you had to pick one 65in overall winner for lag free and vibrant crisp PC/gaming laptop gaming and high movie picture quality in the mid tier, would you choose mini-LED Bravia 7 or OLED Samsung S90D ?
I watch NFL in fmm mode too I need my team accurate orange color, for basketball though I have a custom vivid (greatly tweaked) setting through HDR on apple TV lol, I don't know what it is about NBA but I need it as blindingly bright as possible.
Black Week sales have started in my country already but all the QN90Ds are effectively $1900+ Must be nice to be an american't For that Dolby Vision question. It depends. Some scenes/movies with Dolby support it looks better, usually in snow scenes where samsung tend to overbright/clip removing details in the environment.
They have definitely fixed that this year - no more clipping on the Samsung, they are now very good at aggressively tone mapping in Static mode to look like Dolby Vision
Don't know if it will help in your country but in the US the Samsung app (NOT WEBSITE APP ONLY!) has the lowest Black Friday prices by far: 85 in QN90D $1830 and there are possible additional discounts.

Sony Bravia B9 for the 🏆 I love my 75-inch.
