You're an inspiring teacher, dr. Daniel. Full of passion. I would like to be back in Kenya and start a similar business. The Kenyans who are following you on youtube, will be ahead of me. I like it. Congratulations from Belgium (neighbouring The Netherlands. 😀)
I never had problem attracting them with both poultry and hog wastes but the poultry was far superior. That was more than six years from now. I love what you are doing, please keep it up great guy.
@FARMUP! This is great to know that your BSF farming is doing good. I want to point out a few things you need to make some changes to. 1. The container used for the lavae growth is too small, you need to get something bigger. 2. The stuff you feed them with is too dry. try to make it moist. This is the reason why you have some at lava stage and others still lavae. Those in moist environment will tend to grow well and faster too. I can bet you must have lost some lavae too to the dryness. 3. Try to keep them in a place not too dry, as the growing lavae like a semi dark or dark place to feed and grow. Well done bro you have been very helpfull in all you try to make us see.
@@marciamarcia7449 Yes they adult fly likes the sun light, btu not the growing lavae/ maggot. these need poor lighting and very moist waste to feed them.
My question is that, can the living lavea be fed directly to chickens or one needs to drie it first? Also, can one feed their Chickens only with lavea?
Daniel I really love what ur doing. Thank you so much for sharing this information with us. I've done some research and realized that the flies need high contrast between each other and their background in order to reproduce. They are black. The background needs to be white for best results. Their sex organs are small obviously and have little distinction between male and female organs. So they need a lot of light in order to see properly for mating purposes. They have about ten days to live (you know this) so they need to find a mate quickly before they die. That's why bright light is so important for their reproduction process.
You're so good at observing and finding what needs to be done next. I'm so happy you have not left the medical world completely. You're an inspiration. Yes we like and we 're subbed. ...and lots of love to you
So interesting, thanks Dr for the demonstrations, findings, techniques, improvements and new ideas you share with us as far as poultry management is concerned 🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing that information with us ,thanks so much , am actually interested in that and am willing to start the project if possible share me with ur contact mine is 0784008460,0704050300 Thanks so much
Some thing to improve your videos is going straight to the point. You have a lot of knowledge and experience of which we appreciate but you jump to so many things in one video. I think a 3 minute video clips can attract significant number of viewers. Congratulations
Hi Doc, Great job, loving your videos. Two pieces of advice; 1. Put some greenery in the love cages, they stimulate mating. 2. That tray you showed was rather dry, a little spray of water will help the larvae. drilling a few holes in the bottom of the tray to catch any excess fluid will help, should it become flooded. The drained fluid is also very good fertilizer diluted say 50ml to a litre of water. Keep up the good work bro.
Wow the passion is top notch,i used to see this flies in my banana plantation at the farm. I think they love rotten banana,i would've love to start BSF farm but i don't know how.. The set up for instance does the net has a hole anywhere for the flies to enter through?.
Thank you so much for the information. Could you please share how you formulated your feed using the BSFL. And most importantly your results in terms of the conversion to weight.
You have such good information, and you are so kind to share it! Could you please talk just a little more slowly so I (and maybe others) can understand everything you say? Thanks a million! (If you wrote a book listing all of the details of theprocesses you are talking about--I'm sure many would buy it! I know I would!!!! Thank you for all of your sharing!
I mentioned in a prior BSF video you did, I enjoyed that 1 by-the-way. I just want u 2b aware of electric fencing to really quite accelerate and streamline your farming processes. With the electric fencing ur chicken will feed & fertilize a section(paddocks) of ur land (40x20), u then grow the wheat, barley, rye, corn, peas, squash etc (chix feed, flour, beer grains, sour dough yeast/bread products) food for BSF & chickens as this symbiotic begins to manifest, an organic rich soil base to grow many plants & veggies, for you & them to feast. Making you a healthy, wealthy, wise compassionate farmer/doctor. Im sure there is a learning curve for the chickens but I believe Electric fencing is the cheap way to shepherd God's animals & reduce your inputs. You may end up changing the chicken house to the BSF operation & the mobile Chickasaw & electric fencing to the farm-hand/fertilizer/grow food operation. Nature works in cycles, just as there are trillions of probiotic S.C.O.B.Y in our bodies that keep us alive & healthy each & everyday.
Great idea about your water system. Is it possible to have a black soldier fly system where the larvae can crawl up ramps out of the compost and fall into the chicken coop or into buckets so you can have a continual system rather than batches? All those weeds look like great chicken feed greens. Your geese look so happy with the fish ponds.
Dr good morning sir thanks for all your lovely educative videos pls I need your guidance on how to start up the bsf farm presently I am a fish farmer but the high cost of fish feed is discouraging lots of farmers kindly help me out thanks
Dr.daniel am still wondering how you gonna feed that to chiken because as i know that is a waste, does it not affect the chikens?, will it not cause coxdiosis? Plz answe me! I have made my maggot but am too scared to give them to a chickens
Thanks a lot Dr. I've I'm a new poultry farmer. And I wonder if this kind of a fly can be found in my area. I've never seen it before. But I'm highly interested in feeding without the commercial food. Bcs really it's quite expensive. Thank you very much for your passion in poultry farming. Y I'm also new in farm up. So I could hear you here and there talking abt the pig sty. Are you also keeping pigs?
Hi Dan, I have been watching your videos about the Black soldier flies since day one of your project and implementing each and every step. I have successfully managed to establish my colony up to pupa stage, but unfortunately my flies are dying immediately after pupation. Do you have any clue of how i can prevent them from dying?
Bright light Good sunshine so the insects are warmer and feel encouraged to mate. Also place some potted plants fothe flies to hang unto nature. I think they have poor eyesight. Don't give up try again. These things keep breeding in my compost bin just like that. But I have agarden so several insect come along.
Thank you so much for this practical knowledge, but quick question are going to be using only BSF larvae as feed for your bird and is the nutritional composition balanced
Let me ask some thing besides black soldier fly's....is it possible to cross breed layers with local cocks so I can use the eggs to get new born chicks or its not possible?
I officially started my chicken farm yesterday (meat birds)

Hi Doctor!
Thank you for the video i was going to ask if the chicken could also eat the maggots the all day as their feed
Doctor, I was taught that the larvae love to eat table scraps from fuits and vegetables.
How do you separate them from that their feeds in tray to feed like pigs
Dr.daniel am still wondering how you gonna feed that to chiken because as i know that is a waste, does it not affect the chikens?, will it not cause coxdiosis? Plz answe me! I have made my maggot but am too scared to give them to a chickens

Hey Daniel, please what percentage of the larvae will be used with the commercial feed?
So do you need anything other than maggots to feed chicken or is it a complete diet for them?
Dr. my question is, As you said that You use chicken feed, what is the effect of salt content in the feed?
at what stage you feed them to your livestocks?
Can larvae eat banana leaves and stems?

How much is the temperature and humidity around your cage?
