I am raising BSF 100% by myself with no physical help at all as a minimally small scale hobby. If I ever go to Nairobi, I would love to meet Kim (Protein Master).
I raise BSF for the possibility of profit/selling some day, but as long as I can reproduce them enough to keep reproducing them, I am happy. I want to have BSF alive in my home for the rest of my life. I love them. I love looking at them and feeding them. They are very emotionally rewarding when you have success. I have newly hatched (and more eggs hatching) babies in a small escape-proof setup on my computer desk.
To Kim @Protein Masters: Thank you for this AMAZING and engaging guide through the business of BSF! We have been researching how to incorporate BSF into our farm management plan, and of all the information out there this was the most comprehensive guide I have found so far. I really feel that I can tackle this project and succeed now! The information is this video alone is business/life changing, but add to that your obvious passion for the subject plus your heart for God and community to create an unstoppable message to the world. You Sir, are making a difference around the world. Thank you sincerely from our little family farm in Tennessee USA! (The Quail Barn @ Folster Farms)
I smile when I see eggs and I get really happy when i have eggs that hatch. To me, that's the success. Without eggs, I have nothing. As long as I can have eggs, I can always have a change to continue and improve. I have BSF clothing, that's how much I love the species.
Treat BSF right and they will work like champions for you. The larvae constantly impress us and the flies are friendly/clingy and most of them like to be held, but some like to constantly flee. When you catch a stray fly and try to release it in the cage, it usually takes a while along with some provoking, to convince them to leave your hand.
If you accidentally release hundreds/thousands of flies, (i've done it for inside my house... I opened the window with a light outside and let them go free.) you can wait until night and get a really bright light (the brighter the betteR) and many of them will go to it. you can also go around and bump the flies on the walls to get them to maybe take flight and go towards the light.
This was an absolutely gorgeous and very informative video... I definitely will try to incorporate this into my fish farming business as i expand to poultry and pork production going forward... Though it's important to ask how i can get the opening stock in the eastern parts of Nigeria?
Excellent presentation. Good teaching, bringing out well key areas. Are there cases where your production has been much more than the demand, and what do you do in such situation?
Do you teach through visuals and how much is the cost? And can you get the initial flies to other country and how much is the cost? Thank you for a reply.
For Chickens, I heard you should give them 1/3 insects, 1/3 grains, 1/3 greens. (33%, 33%, 33%), so 1/3rd of their feed being BSF. I don't know if thats for layers or broilers or both, but I don't raise chickens so i don't need to know.
Thank you so much for this awesome video!!! I’m wondering what grinder you use to grind food waste? Whoops! Sorry! I kept watching me at 56 minutes you show the hammermill food grinder. Thank you!!
BSF is amazing but i hate bugs 😂 they're a lot more productive than earthworm. Is there a way not to touch them? The big no is when you have to put your hands inside the net.
Very useful information I’m looking for a farmer to work for me in an organic farm in Saudi Arabia who knows how to produce BSF Can you perhaps help ? Kind regards
Very good presentation as usual, thank you for all your training . Love from 9ja.. By the way dose your BSFL attract rats ? We now have a big battle stopping them eating our larvea. Any tips ?
