These shows are great, you don't even have to watch them, just close your eyes and listen, you won't miss a thing. They are laid out just the same as the radio show was, it just has pictures
The man who played the murderer was Richard Garland, the ex-husband of Beverly Garland. He was in a couple of fifties science fiction movies, including "Attack of the Crab Monster". Russell Johnson, who played the Professor in Gilligan 's Island also starred in that movie.
Beverly Garland had her own one season cop show, Decoy. Her tour de force. I'm watching the professor in his other series with Peter Breck Black Saddle. One of the best westerns ever!
Some of the victims' stories on Dragnet are so sad. Today 30 years old is nothing, but back in the '50s she was washed up, widowed, and didn't have anything but some old clippings of the glory days. Beaten horribly in the sanctity of her own home, by a friend. I knew as soon as I saw the shot of her from behind that the killer in this one was gonna get the death penalty. But it doesn't undo the crime. =[
Man jumps from 10 story building, a Flat Earther disproving the "Theory of Gravity". Good Job Officers! Prevented him from debunking Nuclear Fission. Whew, Lad!
When Friday came in and told them to quit prowling around the office I believe that would have been my cue that the office was wired and to keep my mouth shut.
Jack webber had to change his opening monologue and not say "I'm a cop" because of public pressure. Now Everybody, newscasters especially call them cops.
omg that's too funny-- they wire the room but the door is wide open right next to it and they couldn't have missed hearing themselves, you'd think the director would have noticed that slight little detail, lol.
The actor that played Arnold Parks on was not given credit on the credits at the end of the show. Yes I paid attention to little details . I guess you didn't catch this fact . Gimme a thumbs up for being so observant. 😯
How easy it was for cops before the Gideon and Miranda decisions. If this happened in the '60's, they would have gotten attorneys for free and would have been released. The police really didn't have any reason to hold them.
No one mentioned it but twice they show both Joe's wrists. Why is he wearing a beaded bracelet on his right wrist? Closet hippie or gift from girlfriend first mentioned last episode or ....?
@@geniibuntu Hi. Straight dope discussion board did not answer other than saying it was gold that he wore most of his life . But bracelet on both wrists seems odd.
They should have done background checks on people buying pipe, and limited the amounts of pipe to be purchased. A lot of murders using steel pipe, back then.
Regulate the pipe sales. Make it so you can only buy them in 5 inch sections, no unions without ID. If you have a criminal background, you can't have one. But please remember, pipes don't kill people, people kill people.
Interrogation Rule #1: When a cop has a visible voice recorder and turns it off then tells you you're not being recorded, you are, in fact, being recorded anyway. He's looking to get your guard down to get a confession or any other incriminating evidence. There's no such thing as "off the record" or "not being recorded". This is why you never talk to a cop without a lawyer present. Never. If you think lawyers are expensive, wait'll you see how expensive it is for you when you find yourself in jail for years and years because you engaged in self-incrimination by speaking to a cop without a lawyer. Most cops don't actually care if you are guilty or innocent. They just want to find evidence to incriminate someone and they will lie to you to get that incriminating evidence. It's a main function of their job.
But the recording equipment wasn't visible from the room the suspects were in. The recording equipment was in the other room's closet. This means the tape recorder and the suspects were separated by a whole room and a door
William Bonin first person executed on February 1996 by lethal injection in California. A Federal injuction ended the lethal injection method in California in 2002 and it has not yet been reinstated.
Love Dragnet. Its a wonderful experience to relive. Thank you

In the later shows, you would miss Gannon's antics.
😂@@JohnParks-zc1pn
You know it was originally a radio show?
I remember the small paper backs , really enjoyed reading them .
The comb was a nice touch.
Hey, they were working on my birthday! I thought it was a national holiday 🤣
It is interesting to see the up and coming actors playing the bad guys.
I love listening to these as I fall asleep at night. It is very comforting because of the formulaic approach to the shower.

And the Emmy for the loudest sport coat in a police show goes to..... Joe Friday
Mark Garin 🤣🤣🤣
Wow that singer friend was rough looking. I think she was left tackle for USC
They always seem to go to San Quentin, only one time were they sent to folsom (to my knowledge).

The "Hidden" microphone was almost the size of a hockey puck, lol.

Back then, cop still meant Chief of Police, which Webb did not portray.
"I wear a badge"
Who wrote the teleplay? I didn't see a credit.

The door is open, but the recording room/closet is separated from the room holding the suspects by another room whose door is closed
That woman applying blush with what looks like a hair brush,it hurt my face to watch
❤ love dragnet ❤
The story starts on my birthday. I was -12 years old.
This one was quite gruesome.
It's funny where,s the wire it's in the office kid of illegal to bug your own office inimissable in court lol
Rest in ☮️ Jack Webb.

10-4
Since Arnold Parkson didn't have any lines, no credit in the credits.
Dayton Lummis was cast as Douglas MacArthur in The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell
Great show, but can the sound be clarified at all?
Doc Severin? Another jazz reference!

Usually the cops separate the suspects for interrogation. If they put them together you can guarantee that they're listening.
In the beginning we see Joe Friday wearing a string of hippie beads around his left wrist. How does one explain that?
No hippies back then, just beatniks.
I’ve noticed he wore a bracelet in another episode.
Skid Row District is now the entire city....
No one mentioned it but twice they show both Joe's wrists. Why is he wearing a beaded bracelet on his right wrist? Closet hippie or gift from girlfriend first mentioned last episode or ....?
It's probably the one mentioned here. boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=640245

Boy he broke easy they still had nothing on him 😄
Was it my cellphone or was Audio very rough in 1954? This episode only.
STOP STOP this episode the audio wasn’t very good. It sounded muffled or something like that.
They should have done background checks on people buying pipe, and limited the amounts of pipe to be purchased. A lot of murders using steel pipe, back then.
Did he really kill her with a ten inch pipe? Allowing say four inches room to hold it, there is not much length left to beat someone to death with.
That was stupid...
if you outlaw pipe, only outlaws will have pipe

we must stop pipe violence. for the children's sake
We asked the land lady when she discovered the body.
"Right after I killed her..."
Case over.
The butler did it!
4:40 check out the phone.
Funny the way the titles are always "The Big... X" (something or other).
I think it's a 'film noir' thing.
The small ones weren't worth playing...
What's the deal with the comb🤷

What does "hot shot" mean?
It was a special phone line that reported crimes that needed immediate attention.
Now it means a shot of dope made to kill whoever it was made for
GASSED !
She told me what was in it. Prove me wrong. All he had to say
10 stories jumper? Must have been I.B. Splatin.
Bad audio
Thanks for the confirmation - I was afraid my new speakers were already going bad.
17:13 Mindhunter, 1954 version, hahaha
I guess the Miranda law wasn't around yet....you.know...you have the right to remain silent...everything you say can be used against you.........
Not in the US but if you read the original Sherlock Holmes stories they had it in UK in the 1890's.
1966 was when Miranda was passed.
During the color Dragnet episodes, you see the Miranda warnings being put into operation.
@@kevinsnyder1208 Yes.. and then their conviction rate went down...
Worst law passed in the US since the 19th amendment

Wow reality check for today's. Societie
