- Whew...I really had to bite my tongue and not rant even more about SO many 'pet goat' breeders NOT banding their bucklings. In my area especially, there are WAY too many bucklings and they just aren't selling. There are many people who want them as pets just to keep having cute baby goats. However, they do not breed responsibly. Meaning that many of them are leaving the buck with the does YEAR ROUND. This can result in two kiddings from the same mama within a year. It is so hard on their body!!! Not to mention the goat market has become saturated with low quality goats that no one wants...
Okay, okay...I'll stop ranting now. But for real, if you want a pet goat. Get a wether! Or, get a couple females but DON'T have a buck. Ahh, maybe I'll just have to do a whole video on this topic in the future...
Back to the video, here is how I band my bucklings. Way easier than using a scalpel... This is farm life, these are livestock, and while they do experience some discomfort, it truly doesn't last very long.

Absolutely! When I worked on the family farm we would band the bull calves the same time as tagging!

If he's going to live with his sister then this is essential. We all know animals don't differentiate between family members and non family members once they reach breeding age. Can't believe they can breed when they are only 12 weeks! Is it the same for the females?
EXACTLY. And he is going to a place with other females, and the owner is being responsible by not having any bucks. Females is about 16 weeks and they can have their first heat cycle. Which is WAY too early for them to be bred. Ideally they need to be over 45 lbs, over 8 months old, and 4.5 inch thurl to thurl(basically their rump width). If they do not meet these requirements they can have a hard time with delivery.

There are a TON of factors to consider when 'fixing a horse'. Some horses are not fixable. The great secretariat, a world renowned racehorse, was euthanized because of severe laminitis (the same thing Sugar has). So it is much more complicated than, 'copy paste' what someone else is doing.

I just came back from South America and found out that people donot band their horses. And you have so many horses all over the place, creating accidents, dying from diseases and no one is caring for them. So irresponsible.

I appreciate honest questions. ❤️ No, I do not spay the girls. That would cost more than I could sell them for. However, I do ask a series of questions from potential buyers to ensure they are not looking for breeding animals.

Yes they are. For a dog - yes I would spay, as we live rurally and there are way too many random stud dogs roaming the neighborhood. With livestock it is a different story as it is easily preventable....just don't have a buck. 😊
