Absolutely incredible! To present this musical during this time in America with a supremely talented cast of young people is a provocative & potent look in the American mirror, unbelievably entertaining, gorgeously moving and ultimately radiant with hope!! Congratulations to all involved. I'm beyond inspired.
What a wonderful job these young people did! I tip my hat to you all. What I noticed, as well, as it's been 20 years since I saw the show on Broadway and longer since I read the book, is how little has changed since the period this book/musical centers around. The song that Tateh sings about having not received the welcome that all expected when coming to the USA, feeling desperate for himself and his daughter, is so similar to what is happening today right in front of us....except not the discrimination and racism and hatred welcoming those trying to get into the USA, today, is all out in the open, with children taken away from their families and locked up in cages, some sick and dying, while we watch it from a distance and the majority, do nothing because one man in charge has labelled immigrants from certain parts of the world as "sick, rapists, thieves, etc" and people feel that they have been given permission by that man, to feel the same way and hate the same way and to do it publicly. "Ragtime", especially these days, allows us to witness what it was like in1906, and how, 113 years later, it not only has not changed but has gotten, perhaps, worse. I have gone off topic, though, and applaud these young artists all the best in their future works, no matter where their roads take them, and that they are treated with the respect that all of us, no matter where we come from, deserve. I applaud you all! Peace out!
OMG! This is so great, the cast, ensemble, orchestra. Ragtime is my favorite musical. Thank you for posting this, and hats off to everyone involving in the concert.
Phenomenal. What a display of talent and musicality. So proud to be able to be a part of this “divine milieu.”
