  • Dehydration is a common occurrence in newborn babies. It happens when the body loses more fluid than it is able to replace. This can happen when a baby isn't breastfed enough or is sick a lot. It can also occur when a baby is exposed to a lot of heat or humidity.
We found that a rise in temperature can be a sign of neonatal dehydration and malnutrition in breast-fed infants. Hypernatremia dehydration can occur even if the weight loss is less than 10% of the birth weight. Infants who are LGA can also develop neonatal dehydration
Low fluid intake or dehydration: Some babies may not take in enough fluids, which causes a rise in body temperature. This may happen around the second or third day after birth. If fluids are not replaced with increased feedings, dehydration (excessive loss of body water) can develop and cause serious complications. Intravenous (IV) fluids may be needed to treat your baby's dehydration.
