I think Alice deserves special praise for this. She's clearly the oldest person to take up one leg of this trip, but she did it. Even hopping short fences to do it.
This was the scene where (IN REAL LIFE, OFF-CAMERA) actor Robert Reed saved the lives of everyone on this roller coaster. He did not feel that the camera (which was mounted to the very FRONT of the ride) was safely installed onto the ride. (Somehow, they tested the camera first, before shooting the scene, on an EMPTY roller coaster), and sure enough, the camera had broken loose. So somehow when they finally SHOT this scene, it was confirmed beforehand that the camera was, THIS time, securely fastened to the ride. Had it not been for Robert Reed, BOBBY and CINDY just MIGHT have been KILLED at a VERY young age, (as well as perhaps everyone ELSE onboard the ride). KUDOS TO ROBERT REED ! YOU ARE A HERO !
Kings Island opened April 29, 1972, this episode was filmed a year later in late August 1973 and is often regarded by the Brady Bunch cast as one of their favorite episodes they ever filmed. The park has doubled in size since this episode was made. The park opened with three roller coasters; The Racer- shown at the end of the video, The Scooby Doo- yellow coaster seen in the background, and Bavarian Beetle- A Galaxi coaster not seen in the episode at all. The park now has 14 roller coasters, with the iconic Racer being one of them, still operating to this day.
Poor Jan looked like she couldn't run, she was behind Marcia and trying to keep up the entire time as they were running. Also, Alice running so fast was impressive! She must have been very fit.
Housework for a family of eight almost every day is hard exercise that will definitely keep you fit! Cleaning and stretching, carrying laundry loads, grocery bags, pots, etc.
Fun Fact: the actor named Leslie H. Martinson that played Mr. Remington (the middle guy at 2:35) only just died in 2016 at the age of 101. He outlived Robert Reed by over 24 years!
Even funner fact - Leslie Martinson was the director. He was filling in for the actor hired to play Remington and was a no-show. Martinson had never acted before.
What caught my attention were the people in the background of every scene. 90% of the people were what would be considered today as "thin". Almost zero child obesity. Different era for sure.
One doctor wrote a book claiming that wheat was modified in the 80s and it made everyone fat. I believe it. We may have ridden our bikes more but we ate a lot of junk food and moms and dads just didn’t worry about exercise. Something went wrong with the food.
Alice has to weigh AT LEAST 150 pounds, that is on the low end. But I guess 2 strong young guys like Peter and Greg could lift and carry her. Mike did in the trampoline episode too.
The one where the Bradys almost died on the roller coaster. Robert Reed asked for a test run of the roller coaster without the cast because the mounted camera was wobbly. He was proved right- the camera flew off and would have harmed or killed the cast members! Today, Mike's plans would be on jump drives or else sent to their email! LOL I miss those complicated times!
One of my favorite BB episodes. I always wondered how many takes it took to film this episode at a park full of people when all it takes a one or two people in the crown waving or doing something to to draw attention to themselves. Some people in the crowd seam oblivious that somebody is running fast in the park, while a few are watching them?
I heard somewhere that the people in the park were warned not to look if they saw the Brady kids filming. That’s why everyone is doing their best not to look, when in reality, everyone would have turned their heads.
I was looking for this episode because it was the only time when it seemed like the Bradys were filmed with the regular public. I guess they could have used a bunch of extras for this scene but it seemed like they were mostly people who were just visiting the park whether they knew they were being filmed or not.
Its remarkable to me how these amusement park clients were ready to disqualify Mike's firm with very little regret when the drawings could not be located, and then instantly promised to give them "every consideration" when they were found again. The entire decision turned on the fact, "we have a plane to catch." Few projects of this nature are so transactional. "Yeah, we thought the other firm's design was more creative and inspiring, but we went with these guys instead because we had a plane to catch that day."
I liked this episode very much especially the Brady Express with the kids running to each other passing off the cylinder with the blueprints for the park to get them to the Manager's office. The lone Ranger theme was great! I am curious if this theme is out there on CD.
