As someone from an Indian background, let me explain why this is. We are told from young that you need to outperform everyone (especially the white people) and we are taught to go to uni (non-negotiable), then either get a high-paying, stable job (like doctor, accountant, banker etc) or own your business (shop, mechanic, restaurant) and we are taught to live with parents rent free until you can afford your own deposit to buy a place and then you own a home (in our community you are seen as a loser if you rent) This is the formula for so many Indians (especially in North-West and East London) and is probably why Indians own the most homes out of any group

A good number of Caribbeans own homes. You go to NW London and a lot of the homes are still owned by Caribbeans. Kensal Green, Stonebridge, Harlesden, Willesden etc. Unfortunately, we occupy a lot of social housing in these areas too. I say this as most of your wealth is in your house. A lot of my grandparents generation sold up and moved back before the housing boom (early 90s/late 2000s). Unfortunate, but they couldn’t have predicted how much wealth could be accumulated by simply holding on to their British homes. My parents own their house and have benefitted from the housing boom. I have grown up middle class as a result. The black community need to be encouraged more to buy houses and not value superficial BS. Facts. Today, a lot of young (mid to late 30s) working professionals are moving out to these areas. People act as if these places are far, yet if you live in North London's , driving to Streatham is a longer journey than driving to Grays, for example.
The fact is, most other cultures follow after western culture. This coupled with the fact that, some cultures will use Africa/carribbean (black culture) as a segway to be accepted into western culture as whole, speaks volumes about how much we care ourselves about how other cultures perceive us.
Alot of nigerians did right to buy in 80s and 90s check your facts alot bought up swiss cottage and Islington and there are alot 2nd even 3rd generations in the uk
The Windrush generation and their kids did really well. he 3rd and 4th generation were heavily influenced by American / Yard culture and had an identity crisis where drugs and crime was seen to be cool and pays well. nowadays hardly any black men own their own homes or earn over 50k. Most black men grow up in the city's and choose crime or low paying jobs choose to live at home and waste all their money on cars clothes and women. Where as black women outperform black men and would tend to date outside their race when they end up doing really well in the corporate world.
😂😂😂 You really made that up😂😂 All men of all races make more money than their women And black people have children out of wedlock the most. Black women and men are in the same boat 😂
One other point is that we are made up of more countries and cultures than the Asian community. The Asian British community is made up of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The Black British community is Caribbean (Trinidad, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent, etc.) and African (Ghana, Nigeria, DRC, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, South Africa, Somalia etc.), So it’s harder for us to create a neighborhood that meets the needs of Black British people, as we’re composed of so many different countries and cultures in one.
This is not entirely true - the Asian community is diverse within it's own communities: - Indian includes Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Bengali, Hindi etc - all of which have their own culture - Same with Pakistani - you have Kashmiri, Punjabi, Urdu, Sindhi. etc All of these cultures behave like countries even to the point where some Indians don't want their kids marrying other Indians
yeah but so do Nigeria and Ghana and many other African countries + carribean islands are different it’s not just Jamaica and Trinidad. Nigeria has different ethnic groups Igbos and Yoruba , Hausa which have their own cultures. My point is the black British community is made up of maybe 20+ countries all with their own different cultures which makes things even more complicated .
You could add Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Eritrea since they are part of an African communities that happened to be black. But not British black but different.
Being brought up in Manchester, are affluent areas to move to if you are successful or doing ok is, Didsbury, Chorlton, Altrincham, Stretford etc, which are still close to the inner cities, so its the best of both worlds if that takes your fancy. To really move on and immerse in the so called real middle class areas, you would aim for Cheshire as an example. Overall to create any type of black middle class enclave in my opinion, boils down to study, hardwork, watching the company you keep, and examples from parents drumming home the importance of careers, self reliance and owning your own home. I failed because i got into following the crowd, but luckily i still had the respect of my parents and the know how to turn the opposite way to my Jamaican decent peer's who just went for the easy options. I came from a good home and we all worked, and some bought property, I'm just glad i came out unscathed, and still holding down being a law abiding citizen, still in employment and appreciate a middle class way of life, the arts etc. Its not whats in the bank what's important, its what's in the mind.
It is all about the patterns of migration. Indians (Hindus and Sikhs) were invited post-WW2 to rebuild the country, same as the Windrush generation. Pakistanis and Bangladeshis arrived slightly later in the 50s and 60s. Ever since then, our communities have grown. The reason why you have a lot of certain groups in certain places of self-explanatory. There are more Pakistanis in places like Luton, Birmingham, Bradford, Greater Manchester and Blackburn because their ancestors worked in textile mills and manufacturing. Indians have progressed up the wealth ladder more quickly as they arrived here already highly educated.
Middle class black people are moving out of Croydon not to Croydon. Some may keep & rent out flats/houses but don't want to bring their kids up in Croydon. I'd say the balck (Nigerian) middle-class tended to reside in Hendon, Edgeware, Finchley and then started to edge out to Bushey, Hertfordshire, deep Essex and Kent. WRT asian perception of black people; uni was an eye opener for me. They would be eager to hanbg/talk with you but when family visit, they blank you. For example one of my cousins is an architect everyone on that side of the fam knows this, but had know clue his salary at the time or that he eventually created his own company and sends his kids to private school. His wife is a barrister. Most of the fam knew they live in Stanmore, but didnt know it was in the affluent side they thought it was the harrow part. They move silent and dont where their wealth at all. I've visited them and seen there are other black or mixed middle class families up there. I'm Jamaican and can honestly say those in our fam who own either our own property or more as in rentals or have a high income dont speak on it for various reasons. There are different types in Jamaican culture/community the same as each Island same as each african country you have those who are from aspirational homes and those who are not lol Go Shirley in South London for example you'll see affluent black middle class fam they just keep it quite. The spotlight on generally on black entertainers who spend their money foolishly and move to a typical locations.
You are confused about what middle-class means. A Black man with money is not middle-class. You are not even middle-class when you send your kids to Eton. You are only middle-class if people like you band together and create institutions. Kemi Badenoch is not middle-class and neither is Kwasi Kwarteng, Skepta or whoever.
@@BlackPrimeMinister you seem to be very confused as class was and still is determined by ones individual characteristics of that class band not by "grouping" as you claim. a black man with money does not automatically make him middle class but a black man who is of a profession such as being a doctor, lawyer or a teacher and has money that is within the middle class banding does make them middle class. if you are a child from that home (middle class) and go to a private school then you are middle class. please do go check up on this as it used to be taught in sociology decades ago when I was in school and a quick search shows the definitions have not changed to be so completely different.
There is a sizeable number, but they are not visible because the loudest voices/face of black Britain is working class. You'll find them in Colindale, Hendon, Edgware and various pockets in NW/West London. It's worth noting that they typically move to any decent middle class areas so they are spread out. US is a bad comp because of historical redlining and fears of violence, harassment or worse.
There is a black middle class in the UK. The ones who don’t make it tend to have a class victim hood complex, have an anti-immigrant view and whatnot towards minorities who come here and work hard, romanticise the road life even though there is no money in it, even when they make money on roads, they can’t clean it properly because they owe it to loser friends, list goes on
Black people only make up 4% of the population so proportionally there are probably just as many middle class black people as white it's just that compared to the entire population there are less of them. Living in London it's going to be much harder to reach middle class financially too. I live in Bristol and know black middle class. Proportionally of course.

Sikh community act as a community. Back in the day the windrush community had to come with something to help build the uk up. They came young as well some leaving children behind. When they sent for the children they became house workers for the children that they had in the uk. Its long but Not sure where the hard work fell off. It seems to be an individual approach . lol this conversations are based on their personal lived experience and friends they have in their immediate circle/industry it isn't a true representation of the black majority in the uk. I think its important when having these conversations to be mindful, it isn't based in fact, a lot of generalisation. its a good place to start but the bad part of this conversation isn't really nuanced and never is based on fact and data. I feel like for black africans there needs to be more conversations about our contributions to living and working in the uk. because to say that Caribbean's dealt with a huge brunt of racism is not an accurate assessment bc white people didn't necessarily know the difference. also keep in mind chat gpt isn't necessarily a credible source , it tells you to research it to be fact. Note how he said BLACK not just Caribbean which contradicts the initial point that Caribbean people faced the brunt of racism. so funny that he also said not to group asian but wants to generalise black people LOL I implore you all to mature in your thinking and research and maybe come back and have this convo with subject matter experts and with data. good start but we require more if you're to have this convo.
Why do you think that when black people get money they want to move to middle class areas in the UK? When black people get money, they want to leave the UK. I was born in the UK but moved to the Caribbean as soon as the opportunity arose.
There's no Black middle-class areas because there is no social stratification in the black community. You could come home from your 6 figure job and still walk past lazy weed heads on benefits that are your own mates/brothers etc. The real question is, why don't successful black people leave the hood? My personal opinion is that we hate on each others success much more than being happy for each other more than any other community.

Thamesmead is a estate. Dartford is a working class area in Kent wtf are you chatting breeze 😂😂😂😂😂

Thats not middle class in the slightest their both very poor working class areas
I think some parts of Enfield borough have a black middle class, but it is small
Where in Enfield?
The Windrush generation and their kids did really well. he 3rd and 4th generation were heavily influenced by American / Yard culture and had an identity crisis where drugs and crime was seen to be cool and pays well. nowadays hardly any black men own their own homes or earn over 50k. Most black men grow up in the city's and choose crime or low paying jobs choose to live at home and waste all their money on cars clothes and women. Where as black women outperform black men and would tend to date outside their race when they end up doing really well in the corporate world.
😂😂😂
You really made that up😂😂
All men of all races make more money than their women
And black people have children out of wedlock the most. Black women and men are in the same boat 😂
Lol. Are you black?
It's emerging. The man in this video will be the gen that starts it. Cost of living and house prices has massively slowed the process though.
Vincent, etc.) and African (Ghana, Nigeria, DRC, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, South Africa, Somalia etc.),
So it’s harder for us to create a neighborhood that meets the needs of Black British people, as we’re composed of so many different countries and cultures in one.
This is not entirely true - the Asian community is diverse within it's own communities:
- Indian includes Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Bengali, Hindi etc - all of which have their own culture
- Same with Pakistani - you have Kashmiri, Punjabi, Urdu, Sindhi. etc
All of these cultures behave like countries even to the point where some Indians don't want their kids marrying other Indians
yeah but so do Nigeria and Ghana and many other African countries + carribean islands are different it’s not just Jamaica and Trinidad.
@ exactly we’re talking 25-30 countries within the black community/s in the UK
On the African side there's even more ..Ghanaian, ivory Coast, South Sudanese, Ugandan...there's more pockets still
Being brought up in Manchester, are affluent areas to move to if you are successful or doing ok is, Didsbury, Chorlton, Altrincham, Stretford etc, which are still close to the inner cities, so its the best of both worlds if that takes your fancy.
There are black middle-class people but they are sometimes outside London and some of us don't want to be in the same area as everyone else
There’s an affluent area in Dartford where a lot of blacks have moved to
Dartford and affluent just don't mix lol
Dartford? Brev
@@iffysd9864Yes Dartford have nice houses for certain rich folks
With their white wives?😂
Rule no 1 You move out the city simple.
Middle class black people are moving out of Croydon not to Croydon. Some may keep & rent out flats/houses but don't want to bring their kids up in Croydon. There are middle class Black people with property portfolios in LDN but they move quietly amongst us. They don't boast about their wealth, send their kids to private school, holiday abroad & live a comfortable life. CHZO just don't know who they are .... Think about it not every Black born and raised in LDN or Uk are working class or/and live in social housing.
my grandfather did the opposite to what Marvin grandfather did and said fuck that and stayed in Africa.
We have only been here 70 odd years max. A Middle class is established over centuries.
That’s upper classes old money families like the landed gentry/peerage. Even noveau riche white ppl have done it in Essex rich areas and area of Cheshire.
Salute to all the good yutes 🫡
Fear ? What is fear ? How to use fear in a positive sense .. fear or comfort zone ❤
I eventually accepted that they looked down on us which is a shame because when I visited Lahore I was well received minus my initial experience being exrayed at the airport. Finacial literacy is key for all secondary school kids before they venture to university. I set my daughter up well based on my poor experience. Thanks for this video
Yeah but there’s not predominantly black middle area
As someone who grew up around the area this is true, black people who are middle class or have money just tend to be quiet or do not seem like it.
@@enosgerTrue but black people come from countries with small and dwindling middle classes(Nigeria is a basket case), so the numbers reflect this.
However, these areas are where you'll find them middle-classing.
Nigerians aren’t rich in uk. Many do crap jobs
There’s a lot of middle class black ppl in Hertfordshire
@@isomcbuckets9563 can you specify the areas or are they dotted around everywhere in small numbers as black people in the UK are less than 5% of the population lol
And also Kent

Even if you get ccj and don’t pay it of within first month, you can get it taken off in the courts. IYKYK
How do you go about this bro
@ 2 ways, you can challenge not receiving the claimant form or you can challenge it on grounds of out of court settlement with the company enforcing the ccj. 8/10 they will be willing to comply for out of court settlement as they just want to recieve their money asap
Asian ppl pool their money together to invest...
with their relatives
AND their COMMUNITY
They are now useless too after being infected by vile hip hop culture 😂
Stop the generalising you cant talk on black people as though it's one group lol. sadly these brothers clearly have not been around certain black ppl who have have wealth and are middle class lol most black middle class people move differently and have financial education.

@@SK-kh2rsDid you just not understand something I said or do you want stats to accept something ive said? if so just say which?
You are confused about what middle-class means. A Black man with money is not middle-class. You are not even middle-class when you send your kids to Eton. You are only middle-class if people like you band together and create institutions. Kemi Badenoch is not middle-class and neither is Kwasi Kwarteng, Skepta or whoever.
@@BlackPrimeMinister facts
@@BlackPrimeMinister you seem to be very confused as class was and still is determined by ones individual characteristics of that class band not by "grouping" as you claim. a black man with money does not automatically make him middle class but a black man who is of a profession such as being a doctor, lawyer or a teacher and has money that is within the middle class banding does make them middle class. if you are a child from that home (middle class) and go to a private school then you are middle class. please do go check up on this as it used to be taught in sociology decades ago when I was in school and a quick search shows the definitions have not changed to be so completely different.
Camden, pimlico, barbican, Fulham and Chelsea that I know
There are…. We bring the value of house prices everywhere
The ones who don’t make it tend to have a class victim hood complex, have an anti-immigrant view and whatnot towards minorities who come here and work hard, romanticise the road life even though there is no money in it, even when they make money on roads, they can’t clean it properly because they owe it to loser friends, list goes on
@18:00 It's our history. The Greatness of African Kingdom's!
9:33 this has literally shaped black british life since the 50's.
Black people only make up 4% of the population so proportionally there are probably just as many middle class black people as white it's just that compared to the entire population there are less of them. Living in London it's going to be much harder to reach middle class financially too. I live in Bristol and know black middle class. Proportionally of course.
If you listen more carefully the question was more about are there black middle class areas ? They confirmed that a black middle class exists but no particular area which is predominantly black middle class can be identified.
@@rtee8904 Yea well again there may just not be enough of them to occupy whole areas. Asian make up almost 10% of population and along with a different culture to whites and black where high paying careers and family support are pushed more they probably make up even more proportionally than whites or blacks so their middle class presence is more noticeable
@rtee8904 there's not enough black people for us to have a middle class area that is predominantly black
@@rtee8904I moved from London about 6 years ago to the west of Manchester. My kids go to a local private school and the majority of kids in the school are black. I would call that area a middle class black area.

The idea of collectiveness is something that needs work alot of it. In the muslim community they have courses on finance in the sikh comnunity they have money to give to fellow Sikhs both have banks. Sikh community act as a community. Back in the day the windrush community had to come with something to help build the uk up. They came young as well some leaving children behind. When they sent for the children they became house workers for the children that they had in the uk. Its long but Not sure where the hard work fell off. It seems to be an individual approach . What I said earlier is the faiths both supported fellows with financial structure. Majority of People from Westindies are christian and catholic or Rastafarian neither faiths teach about financial structures in life and how to send it down generations. Tell me something different I would love to know.

lol this conversations are based on their personal lived experience and friends they have in their immediate circle/industry it isn't a true representation of the black majority in the uk.

What is attitudes towards pain
There's no Black middle-class areas because there is no social stratification in the black community. You could come home from your 6 figure job and still walk past lazy weed heads on benefits that are your own mates/brothers etc. The real question is, why don't successful black people leave the hood? My personal opinion is that we hate on each others success much more than being happy for each other more than any other community.
Talk about self hate. Blimey!
Actually it's because all the black middle class people moved out the country decades ago.
