  • The Markha Valley Trek is one of the most beautiful hikes you can do in Ladakh, India. If you want a less crowded hike and love High Alpine Tundra vistas, go visit these West Himalayas. This particular 10-day route took us to three high altitude passes (Stok La, Gandha La and Kongmaru La) and a successful summit of the Kang Yatse 2 peak. In the past, this would have been the famous Stok La, but it is now protected as it is a fresh water source for the villages below.
10 days is a good length; it gives you enough time to acclimatize. The valley part is not difficult, the passes are a moderate challenge, but hiking above 5000m is very strenuous and should not be taken lightly. The success rate of the summit was 50% this year.
This hike was done in September 2023, so water levels are low and the water crossings were easy. The weather was exceptionally sunny and warm for this season. Couldn't have asked for better. There were many temples and cultural aspects along the way as this region is famous for its Buddhist / Tibetan culture, but out of respect photography is limited there.
Thanks again to our awesome guides and crew, and ju-leh adventures who arranged it. And a big shout out to my friends in the group itself, of course.
Shot with a Gopro 7 Black, which really doesn't handle 4k that well apparently..
